Whale Wins is our favorite place to go for a group small plate dinner. The wait staff does a great job describing every dish to make the experience that much better.

5 of us enjoyed a wonderful dinner of deliciously varied cuisine and wonderful service. As old friends we had a lot to talk about, and the staff were so patient with our intermittent lack of follow through on ordering. From openers through dessert we enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere and great food.

The food is very good. Menu is somewhat limited but there is something for everyone. I thought our table of five could have been timed better. There was over a five minute wait between first and last dish being delivered to the table. I still wouldn’t hesitate to eat here again… the room is gorgeous and conceptually it’s a 10/10

We went to The Whale Wins to celebrate a birthday. We'd been there before and enjoyed their takes on fresh ingredients - especially seafood and vegetables. This night we shared pickled vegetables, fresh asparagus, potato chips with a smoked halibut dip, Parisienne gnocchi and Alaskan halibut on a bed of delicious beans. Our servers were quick and attentive, and if we didn't have birthday pie waiting at home, we would have stayed for dessert. A very lovely, intimate place.

Consistently, food here is made with quality ingredients and often matched in creative matches. Last night, braised pork came sauced with nettles, parm cream and oyster mushroom, for instance. Black cod made lush with smoked labneh, perked up with pickled shallots and grounded with black lentils. Other dishes lean toward classic French. The lettuces, showered with parm, pistachios and fresh dill lean to classic French. Cocktails consistently go above and beyond the ordinary. The Il/El Burro Monde with house made pecan butter-washed amaro, Berto bitter, mezcal and chicory pecan bitters says it all. Dessert turns ordinary to luscious, too, with Zucchini Bread crisped and accented with sea salt, all resting on tangy crème fraiche. All is brought to table by servers who know what’s coming, greet with courtesy and smiles, and listen to their customers’ comments and questions. Greta, you were amazing!

Have to be honest, overall we were disappointed after hearing so many great things, especially as this was our first experience at a Renee Erickson restaurant. The food was good, but not amazing. I would say our two favorite dishes were the cauliflower dish and the salad. The main dish (wish was Black Cod) was actually NOT good at all, flavorless and kinda fishy. And the desserts were actually downright bad, so I would not recommend getting dessert. Our server was lovely and very attentive, and the place is cute, but for the money, I would go somewhere else before I'd go back here. Disappointing.

The food was wonderful. Fabulous oysters. An excellent cauliflower dish. Delightful waiter. We sat outside which at first we were afraid would be chilly, but the heat lamps kept us cozy. We loved it.

It was lovely. Fun to see some local celebs dining there at the same time (don’t worry I didn’t bug them for a photo or anything rude). Great food, pleasant servers, tasty cocktails. Fun all around

I felt everything I ate here was 10x better than any meal I’d had in any trendy Seattle restaurant since pre-covid days (including Spinasse, or Joule, or How to Cook a Wolf). The night I came in (2/17) each appetizer (cauliflower, pickled veggies, green salad) was perfect! And our two mains, salmon and gnocchi, delighted with every bite. Our server was warm with a genuine smile. Lucky us to have had this meal. If they’re always cooking up food this good I’ll be coming back often.

The chicken liver pate was the best I have had in Seattle fine restaurants. Our hostess was the best, when we couldn't decide which champagne by the glass to order, she let us taste each of them to decide. So nice of her. Very knowledgeable about the wine list. The food was very good.

Incredible food, easy menu for someone who needs gluten-free options, best pork chop everyone in our group had ever had, phenomenal oysters. And for a much more reasonable price than we expected compared to other fancy restaurants in the area whose food wasn't as good. Fantastic service and ambiance. Highly recommend!

First visit. Very friendly and attentive staff. Food was very good, although it could have been a bit warmer. Only drawback was getting to the restaurant as, unfortunately, it is currently in the middle of a construction zone.

Great food but the service is a fail. For a restaurant with a cancellation fee the place was empty. Despite that, it took 22 minutes from when we were seated until we got our drinks. Another 10 minutes to order food. Our server was more interested in the younger girls table than paying attention to us. Other staff seemed aloof. Food was excellent. Kitchen has their act together but FOh does not. At this price point both should be up to standard

There was one major issue: both orders of halibut were overcooked. Perfectly edible but very disappointing for a Renee Erikson restaurant. We’re generally fans of hers, frequent her other restaurants. Maybe the chef just had an off night. Gnocchi was excellent, as was a salad we all shared. Beet salad was really good, tho a bit small for the price, plus for a restaurant that strongly encourages sharing. Fine service. Cool space.

As always, the food is excellent, a mashup of classic-creative Nortwest-French culture and creativity. On our last visit, we were happy with the gnocchi, the halibut and the roast chicken. Everything is fresh and flavorful. Cocktails are well mixed, wine offerings well curated. The vibe is casual elegance, rustic yet whimsical. Service here is also consistently top notch: helpful, timely, friendly without a hint of fake enthusiasm.

Fresh ingredients win the day at the Whale Wins, which never disappoints. The salads are wonderful, especially the Lettuce and the Chicories. We love the bread and butter. Desserts are tasty. Entrés could be more diverse, but there's never a mediocre dish on the plate. Attentive and professional service, as always. We'll be back.

It's an interesting and delicious menu, especially if you love fish and veggies. The wine list leans heavily French. The service was good and the people were polite but lacked the polish of a proper fine dining experience.

The food was exquisitely complex and delicious. We ordered the pitcher of white wine which was so Devine we had to order another. Whale Wins is on my top 5 list of Seattle restaurants!

Very comfortable and delicious meal. All dishes were terrific, but the clams were memorable. The serve staff and chefs were running nonstop, but we never felt rushed. Our server, Molly was efficient and informative and very warmly welcoming.

The Whale Wins is a charming little place to grab lunch with a friend. The menu is minimal, which is nice, and the food was delicious. We had the Halibut Dip with Chips, the Strata and a bowl of their French Onion Soup. I would highly recommend all three of those menu selections. Additionally, their little shop inside has plenty of eye candy to enjoy this time of year. The Whale Wins is a winner!

Seemed a little pricy for what I ordered. The range of main courses on the menu is pretty limited. I absolutely enjoyed the small plates I ordered last time around, but main course (chicken dish) was definitely not spectacular. I'd love to see a beef option, or maybe pasta with a meat option.

Outdoor covered heated patio dining was comfortable and appreciated! There is still a population of us who still are careful to keep safe distances from others and The Whale Wins is a favorite place of ours to dine because of this reason. The food and customer service are very good . I always recommend The Whale Wins whenever I can. They hit all the marks for me.

We made a reservation for 2 well in advance but we ended up seated in the store. A little strange we thought. The service was good and we felt taken care of. They quizzed us about dietary restrictions (pescatarian) but then later recommended pork chops and chicken entrée. Funny. The food was really well prepared. Not really sure how the menu comes together. It felt more like ordering from a bunch of food trucks rather than a menu at a restaurant.
