Umami is outstanding! It was a great dining experience. We chose to go with the Omekase and it was excellent. Every course was delicious and presented beautifully. My nephew has been to Tokyo and said that the sushi was at least as good, and in some cases, better than what he experienced in Japan. Before our last course, mochi ice cream, we decided to have a roll. Our rainbow roll was absolutely the best I have ever had, and I have had A LOT of rainbow rolls. It was the best, freshest, most colorful rainbow roll: mostly fish and a little rice. Scrumptious. The staff is excellent. Alex, the host and waiter was personable and helpful. The chefs were accommodating with my gluten-free diet. I was very happy with Umami and I highly recommend it. I’m looking forward to returning.

Really great omakase experience with lots of unique dishes. One of the standouts was a scallop dish with tobiko jelly, green caviar and pickled veg. The omakase did include a few other special items outside of the typical sushi pieces like the miso cod. Everything was delicious and service was excellent. It’s not a timed experience so you won’t feel rushed. I left stuffed and happy, with the delicious mochi and ice cream over crispy rice rounding out the meal.

First time we have been here. Will not be the last. The food was delicious and beyond expectations. My son ordered the New York steak and my husband the rib eye. They were cut and finished off table side by the chef. The boys said the best steak they have had and they know their steak. My seafood was cooked to perfection. The sushi was beyond fresh. Even more impressive was the staff Pia, Alex and Eunice, thank you for all your attentiveness and suggestions. We will be back!

We went before a show at the walnut street theater. The restaurant is chic and clean. The waiter Alex was fantastic. We knew we couldnt take leftovers so we did an assortment of appetizers and my mom got an entree whichwas shared. Our appetizers were salmon on crispy rice ( outstanding) the Kani salad- delicious, the miso cod- a bit pricey for the protion but really good… and steamed pork gyoza. So amazing. My daughter and I shared the beef fried rice- next time, I am absolutely getting the steak. It was very good. My sister got a couple of rolls which were great also. The only warning I would give is that the restaurant is downstairs- a flight. Had I known that I may have picked another place since I had my 77 year old mom with us but she raved about how delicious everything was and it is literally a short block from the Walnut St. theater so I highly recommend! Dessert was a mango creme bruless that we each literally had two spoonfuls of and it was divine! Bathrooms were clean, the cocktails were yummy as well. Good spot!!

This is a stellar restaurant — a hidden gem in Washington Square West. The food and service was top notch. We went on a Tuesday evening, when the restaurant was busy with pre-theater patrons. Since we weren’t part of the theatre crowd and had extra time, we tried the Omasake — a fun way to try many dishes and sushi. Everything was fresh and bursting with flavor. This is a special place. If you come before a show, try to give yourself enough time to enjoy the food and service. You won’t be disappointed!

The entry down the stairs needs cleaned up. Our waiter was stressed out (he was the only one waiting tables) and aggressive. The hostess was not very friendly. The food was good. We liked our dishes. The prices are too expensive. We will not return again because the overall value for the money isn’t there.
