Tucked away inside Izakaya Fishtown, Sushi By Bou Fishtown (located at 1832 Frankford Ave Philadelphia PA 19125) brings Sushi by Bou into unique room-turned-restaurant experience to Philadelphia. The experience features an 10-seat sushi counter with a Classic 12-course or Bougie 17-course progressive omakase options in an cool 90s Hip Hop setting. Unfortunately this was such a poor experience. Very rushed, no attention to detail, and poor service. I really expected more of this dinner! We were in and out in less than an hour for a 17-course sushi dinner. Once we were seated, we immediately got served our first course. They didn't take our drink order until course 4, and I didn't receive my drink until course 7. It was clear that they were trying to get us in and out as fast as possible, there was no level of service offered whatsoever. At the end they came around with the card machine to take payment for the drinks, no offer for another drink, if there was anything else we wanted etc. The chefs ran out of sushi rice half way through and had to get some from the main restaurant. The chefs also never explained anything about Omakase, details of the dishes they were serving, etiquette etc. If this was my first omakase I would've been so let down. We received no information from the chefs except for questions other guests asked. We ended up asking the chef how many seatings they do in a night, and they shared that they used to do 2 per night, and now it is 5, so that explains it. It really feels like a huge money grab as there is no attention put in to making it an enjoyable experience for guests. My husband and I both work in restaurants so we are generally very forgiving, but this was really something else. For $150 per person sushi dinner with only 8 guests I expected a full experience, and not to feel rushed in and out. By the time they shuffled us out I hadn't even finished my cocktail. Will absolutely never be back here, and would not recommend it to anyone. We didn't try other sushi restaurants in the area but I'm positive there are plenty of other fantastic places to spend your money.

Overall, there are plenty of much better omakase choices in Philly. This one was very gimmicky and forced. The service was the absolute worst. They tell you to get there early only to make you wait. They rush you in and start right away, they say its 90 minutes but barely made it to an hour. Our server gave me an empty, dirty sake shot (to do as a group), I asked for another drink and he told me that we only had 5 minutes left, and THEN reached across me to take my partner's drink away when it was half full... truly, don't waste your time here. Thankfully the food was good, but for the price, just go somewhere else where they know what they're doing as a whole.

The experience felt very rushed. It was supposed to be an hour and a half and it barely lasted an hour. We were still having the last piece of sushi when we were interrupted with the check and our place settings rapidly cleared off. Not worth the price. Omakase is supposed to be an experience. The experience sucked but the food was good. Won’t go back.

Overall love the food here and the chefs - however, this past time felt very rushed. I was in and out within the hour, and wish we could've been given a bit more time between courses to enjoy.

Best sushi I've ever had with the friendliest staff! Amazing experience: every course was unique, flavorful, and better than the previous! The chef's were very passionate and each course felt personal/meaningful. Worth every dollar!

This was a great eating "experience", with 8 of us sharing a small room in the back of the restaurant. Two servers prepared and served a variety of sushi (1 piece of 17 different varieties) and explained them to us. The food was delicious and one of the servers who did almost all of the talking was very enthusiastic and engaging. The exorbitant cost of the dinner is difficult to justify, but it was a terrific meal for an occasion.

Such a fun experience. The staff was friendly and very attentive. The chef was so nice and by the way he explained each dish you could tell he really loves to create such amazing dishes. I would definitely go back again.

Absolutely wonderful addition to both the Philly sushi scene and the overall Sushi by Bou family. I usually visit the various NYC locations and was excited to see a new opening in another beloved city. The fish was incredibly fresh with unique touches and flavors added to bring out the special qualities of each. While the sushi is almost always amazing at these restaurants, for me, the chefs and dining staff really made the experience. The chefs were friendly, fun, energetic, and happily explained the background of each dish. An overall delightful experience that is now probably my favorite Sushi by Bou. We will be going back!

From entering through Yanaga through the back door , you are transformed into a great gabsy themed speakeasy omakase with great ambiance and service. Both the sushi chefs were very personable, interactive, and amazing people. I was all smiles and laughing during our time there. The Yuzu mock tail and free sake was a great touch to the experience. The food was so fresh and very creative. My favorite were the uni and foie gras, waygu with foie gras, the eel, and the scallops! The elevated experience is highly recommended for a special occasion, birthday, or even for sushi lovers! Would come again with my friends that I want to continue to share the experience with

As soon as you enter the restaurant, the first thing that catches your eye is the cheap renovation. With the prices they are asking you expect a decent restaurant. The person who greets you is very nice and friendly, but the chef is too arrogant, to question what kind of fish it is, he just starts laughing. Apparently, he expects everyone to know all types of fish. They are trying to imitate an expensive restaurant which they certainly are NOT. 500 dollars for two was simply wasted in one hour. I'm very disappointed.

The best sushi experience I have every had. The Mitsutaka-san and Dallaz-san are magicians with their offerings. The only downside is you won't every enjoy sushi anywhere else ever again unless you go to Japan.

Amazing omakase experience! I booked the experience for my boyfriend’s birthday and we both loved it. Every dish was absolutely delicious..so fresh and the chefs did a great job of explaining each dish. We also got some sake flights. We don’t drink sake often, so it was nice to try a few different types. Would highly recommend the omakase experience at Sushi Suite Fishtown!

We had 16 pieces of “sushi” last course was a green tea mochi. The chef has over 10 jars of fancy flavored salt and over 10 little bowls of sauce with excellent flavors. We were only few feet away from him watching him carefully putting that piece of sushi together like miniture art , explaining why using the different size blow torch on some of the pieces. The chef and his partner assistant are so entertaining and educational. Carefully Pick up the piece of sushi with your fingers,put it in your mouth with one bite, close your eyes for few seconds, the flavors and texture just explode on your tongue that you can’t help but to give a big smile😋 well worth your trip. BTW don’t let the word 17 course keep you from going. It actually is about 25 bites of food. Everybody can handle it Enjoy as a fine art of food experience. Positively NOT a steak house experience. Wish with this article we can convert few person who been brought up with the idea that all raw seafood are stinking dead creatures will be welling to go there to expend their life time gourmet experience. Chef Mitsutaka Harada and Samuel served an amazing sushi omakase dinner on their inaugural night at Sushi Suite in Fishtown, in the back room of Izakaya. Their every dish honored traditional Japanese cuisine with the freshest of ingredients but added a twist of modern flavor. I’ve had sushi from Tokyo to New York City, and this is the real deal! Absolutely worth a visit! Congratulations Chef!
