it pains me to write this review because this was my favorite restaurant in the city before they rebranded. while the food hasn’t change and is still just as delicious, the ambiance has completely been destroyed. i previously enjoyed interacting with the chefs and learning about the course, while eating at a comfortable pace. however, that atmosphere has changed drastically with music blasting the entire time so you can barely speak with the chefs and even worse what was supposed to be an hour long tasting was an extremely rushed 40 minute tasting. it was impossible to savor the courses and distinguish the different dishes because of the pace we were required to eat at. it’s such a shame this place fell into the trap of trying to be “trendier” when they were easily the best omakase in the city and they are now just average.

Although they advertise a 60min experience, expect to be done around the 30minute mark. The sushi chefs here work quickly and serve the sushi as soon as it is made. There is little room for conversation. Be advised that their entry is actually inside another restaurant, this isn’t noted on Open Table or google maps. Food overall was delicious and the yuzu lemonade was refreshing for the hot weather. If fast food omakase existed, this place offers exactly that experience.

The food was so fresh and delicious! The staff working was very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. I came on a date and we did the bougie omakase- yum! But we left still feeling a bit hungry after our experience.

I can honestly say this was the most subpar omakase experience I’ve had in Philly. $60 is pretty cheap for omakase, and you definitely get what you paid for. But I still don’t think it was deserving of $60. I would have rather spent that money on some menu items in the main restaurant, Izakaya by Yanaga. The chefs at Sushi by Bou weren’t very attentive, the atmosphere was overall extremely unorganized, and the service was subpar. I will say, I have nothing bad to say about the courses that were served. Sushi by Bou used to be Sushi Suite, which was my favorite omakase experience in Philly. Sadly, it does not measure up to the previous omakase experience that existed in the space. I don’t think I would recommend this place to other people.

Every aspect of the night was great. We loved the music along with the food and space. The staff were fantastic.

It was great I just wish it was longer. I came before when it was sushi suite. I do miss the 90 minute ones because it made the experience a real treat!

Unfortunately this was such a poor experience. Very rushed, no attention to detail, and poor service. I really expected more of this dinner! We were in and out in less than an hour for a 17-course sushi dinner. Once we were seated, we immediately got served our first course. They didn't take our drink order until course 4, and I didn't receive my drink until course 7. It was clear that they were trying to get us in and out as fast as possible, there was no level of service offered whatsoever. At the end they came around with the card machine to take payment for the drinks, no offer for another drink, if there was anything else we wanted etc. The chefs ran out of sushi rice half way through and had to get some from the main restaurant. The chefs also never explained anything about Omakase, details of the dishes they were serving, etiquette etc. If this was my first omakase I would've been so let down. We received no information from the chefs except for questions other guests asked. We ended up asking the chef how many seatings they do in a night, and they shared that they used to do 2 per night, and now it is 5, so that explains it. It really feels like a huge money grab as there is no attention put in to making it an enjoyable experience for guests. My husband and I both work in restaurants so we are generally very forgiving, but this was really something else. For $150 per person sushi dinner with only 8 guests I expected a full experience, and not to feel rushed in and out. By the time they shuffled us out I hadn't even finished my cocktail. Will absolutely never be back here, and would not recommend it to anyone. We didn't try other sushi restaurants in the area but I'm positive there are plenty of other fantastic places to spend your money.

Overall, there are plenty of much better omakase choices in Philly. This one was very gimmicky and forced. The service was the absolute worst. They tell you to get there early only to make you wait. They rush you in and start right away, they say its 90 minutes but barely made it to an hour. Our server gave me an empty, dirty sake shot (to do as a group), I asked for another drink and he told me that we only had 5 minutes left, and THEN reached across me to take my partner's drink away when it was half full... truly, don't waste your time here. Thankfully the food was good, but for the price, just go somewhere else where they know what they're doing as a whole.
