Authentic Uzbek Cuisine Samarkand Steakhouse is known by its charcoal grilled steaks and kebabs, also signature entrees, amazing appetizers, variety salads and original desserts. Samarkand also offers great gyros, burgers, seafood and soups. Its three spacious dining areas have different options - quiet dining area, guitar and lite music room and Banquet room with live entertainment and Belly dancing shows. BYOB will give you option to enjoy your own favorites. Delivery and carry out services are available. Online ordering and online reservations are always active. It's clear that there's been a change in the kitchen staff. The shish kebab was overly cooked, even charred in spots. The salads lacked flavor. Previously, the quality was significantly higher. I wouldn't consider returning.

This is my third visit to Samarkand and it seems each time is better than the last. I invited two of my brothers to the restaurant for Iftar during Ramadan, when Richard (the manager) learned that we were fasting muslims he informed us of their prayer room and offered it to us. The food and service was exquisite and attentive as it normally is. I had the lagman, and a Caesar salad with salmon kabobs and lamb kabobs. The lettuce was crisp and fresh, dressing not too heavy or watery. My brothers had kabobs as well and one of them had a steak. No one had any complaints and they both said that they will be returning with their families. I highly recommend this restaurant for any and everyone but especially any muslims. This is definitely a hidden gem in Philly.

Service was excellent. Very clean and you can see they care about their food and customers. Our food was very good- so different from the usual fare in the area. We’ll definitely go back.

Our dinner was wonderful. We’ve been coming to this restaurant gorgeous years, and they did not disappoint. Soup Charcho was delicious, Samsa was tasty and juicy, and my husband’s Classic Lamb dish was the best lamb we’ve ever had.

We had a nice quiet booth and a delicious dinner. The biggest unexpected treat were the amazing home made potato chips with garlic and dill. The mango and raspberry salad is lovely. My shrimp kabobs was delicious.

The food was delicious. We had the filet, rare, and the Plov. The rare filet was perfect as we seldom get rare when asked for rare, but they did it right here! The issue we had was, although it was busy, no one came up to us for at least 15 minutes to even ask about water. When the server did come, she apologized since the look on my face warranted it. However she took our order and did not even ask about drinks. We forgot and had to stop her as she walked by to get some water. Again, the food was excellent and it did come out quickly, so service did improve after the initial snafu.

Came here for New Year’s Eve thinking it would be a great experience. The service was horrible. The waitress was nonexistent. The food was not great. very disappointing would not recommend it was terrible New Year’s Eve dinner and I had high expectations for this place seeing all the good reviews. I seldom ever write a review, but I felt compelled because this was so terrible.

Enjoyed overall- the environment and ambiance were comfortable, surprisingly cozy and clean. The service was friendly, not overly suggestive but kind. Two starters were good, not extravagant or to-die-for, but just good. Entrees were very good and diverse, flavors very strong and different, yummy! Manager greeted us very friendly and service continued to be attentive throughout. The coolest thing for us personally but the “call button” that notified your server when you needed him/her and they came accordingly, yet let you be during your meal and could converse without being interrupted a lot, it was a very cool concept!

We went to Uzbekistan earlier this year and the food here (probably due to better fresh ingredients) was better than anything we had there. Excellent value and something different to your usual restaurants

This was our 4th time dining at Samarkand. It was the first time we found out they have a 2nd dining room in the building's lower level. It was a hair inconvenient to get to, as you actually have to leave the "main" restaurant and walk to the back of the building (down a hill in the parking lot). Once inside though...wow! The place is beautiful. The hostess sat us right away and a gentleman (whom I think was a manager) gave us a brief history of the restaurant when we mentioned we didn't know about this second area. Turns out, they only open it on weekends. The menu is extensive and it is always hard to decide what to order. We always like to order new things. This time around we tried the fatir bread. It was kind of like a croissant on steroids! Comes out looking like a small cake. When you cut into it, you see all the delicious layers. I tried a kabob platter which had 3 different skewers (lamb, chicken, beef). My husband tried a salmon kabob and the halloumi cheese kabob. It was all perfectly seasoned and grilled. So much food, we took half of it home for dinner the next day. My father tried the lamb/beef burger which came with fries. He enjoyed it immensely, but while the roll was good, it was a bit soft and hard to keep the burger together. But hey, it's a burger and supposed to be messy :) If you enjoy a nice atmosphere (we went early so they weren't crowded yet--but they do have live entertainment later in the eveing) and great food, definitely give Samarkand a try!

our first time there or eating uzbek cuisine and it was amazing. I definitely seemed legit so I'm sure people originally from the region would be very happy with the food. If you are just looking to try something new and worry about no liking anything don't fear, it was all so good and the menu has a great variety. Service was excellent and we went on a friday so I it was not like a dead monday or anything

Food was delicious and wait staff was very attentive. Who I'm assuming was the manager or owner, made sure we were happy with our service and when we said we had never been there before gave us a little history on the origin of the cuisine.

The restaurant was almost empty but we were seated near the kitchen. we did not like that. It was my first time and I was disappointed. I may give you another chance! Since it was my first time, the waiter did not explain to us the menu to help us with choosing our meal.

First, let me explain that we had my son and his boyfriend in from Germany and they are both vegetarian so the choice of a steakhouse for dinner might sound odd but we did try and enjoy nearly all of the meatless options in the menu. Everything was fresh and tasty and served with a smile. We had a great time. I still struggle with the concept of restaurants that apply a “Service Charge” of 19% as that is opaque and does not tell you to whom that money is going and for what. So I still tipped 25% on top of that but there should be a message in the menu explaining that for transparency.
