Located in the University neighborhood of Seattle since 1997, this original location sets the Portage Bay Cafe mission of local, organic and sustainable fare. From our Crab Cake Benedict to our signature House-Made Challah French Toast, our items are carefully crafted to use the best seasonal and organic ingredients available. Chef Andrew and his team create monthly specials to further highlight our food-producing partners.

Portage Bay Cafe on Roosevelt is a large, airy, boisterous space with lots of energy and we have covered outdoor dining all year round. We look forward to serving you soon.

This visit was for Mother's Day Brunch, as usual the food was very good. The Lemon Ricotta pancakes were delicious and the berries from the berry bar were fresh and sweet! Our server was on point and anticipated our needs, and the atmosphere was lovely.

Portage Bay is always wonderful. A great place for brunch - whether routine or celebratory. On this visit we had 6 friends from out of town - from WA, CA, NY, MI. We had a great time, and great food.

I LOVE the breakfast choices. The service was great and our servers kept water and coffee filled throughout the service. We had a group of 8 and everyone was pleased with the experience. Definitely will return.

I would return here again as the service was exceptional. The breakfast portions were large,, and you can butter your own toast. Big pork sausage link, big scrambled eggs portion. All was very hot and tasty.

Great breakfast spot. Something for everyone - plenty of GF and vegan options. Always prompt and friendly staff. This is our go-to place in the U District.

It was amazing. We got seated then ordered, and the food was great. Everyone was very polite, and the food came quickly. All their food comes from locally sourced and organic ingredients, adding to the flavor and how good it makes you feel afterward. Overall 10/10.

Arrived for a Saturday 12:30pm reservation but still had to wait 15-20min for a table. We joined a huge list of others similarly reserved but waiting. Then it took a very long time for our waiter to get to our table - we finally had to beg a bus person to get them. Narrowly made our theater time down the street. If you want to eat here, book an extra 30min.

Food was ehhh. Our waitress told us how busy she was so we would need to wait for her to come back and take our order. She didn’t come back with straws nor silverware so we had to ask another staff member to help us.

Excellent brunch menu, food was bery tasty. Waitress was attentive and seved latecomers promptly. Too noisy for quiet conversations at the table. Reservations are pretty much required.

Some lady (possibly owner/manager, not wearing work uniform?) told me I couldn’t stop by the fruit bar on my way out, and that I could only go to the bar once. Quite rude. All I wanted was some more mascarpone whipped cream for my leftover crepes later… never had an issue like that before. It’s like 0.50 cents. Kind of cheap of them considering every dish is nearly $20. And if that’s something new, should be written on the menu.

Portage Bay is a great place for breakfast or brunch. The pancakes are great and you get the toppings bar. Unfortunately it is one trip for the last several years, but who needs to go up there multiple times anyway? Thankfully all of the berries were fresh and not frozen. The quality is excellent and lots of their food is sourced locally. But best of all, my brunch dates rate Portage Bay as "yummy."

This is one of our favorite places to get brunch. We always enjoy the food here. Some of our favorites include the Rancher’s Breakfast, Migas and their daily specials. Service was attentive and quick. The noise level is high though, and it is difficult to hear each other talk.

We had a reservation, and we still had to wait to be seated like 20 minutes. I don't know what a reservation is for if you still have to wait for a table like everyone else. We also got seated so late that they were already closing the kitchen so we were rushed into ordering and eating fast. The servers seemed kind of inconvenienced by our needs. It wasn't a very pleasant experience.

It was a very cold day out and the restaurant was quite chilly. My wife's course of a vegetable bowl was not to her liking. It had a strong vinegar taste and some of the vegetables were too stalky.

Portage Bay is my favorite, go-to breakfast spot. This was my first time visiting this location. The restaurant is huge but super crowded. Walking to our table, we walked through three rooms and had to squeeze past employees and other tables. Service was great. I got the bananas foster French toast and it was a little underwhelming. I’ve gotten it plenty of times before but there was close to no sauce or bananas on it. My friend got a special eggs Benny and there was barley any hollandaise. Just might not go to this location again, but i love this place.
