BYOB French restaurant with a unique blend of Southern-inspired cuisine and bistro classics: think Confit Fried Chicken and Waffle, and Steak au Poivre. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, with antique mirrors lining the walls, candlelight, and warm and friendly service. We have seasonal outdoor seating along a lovely alleyway with potted blooms and bird serenades.

This was a great brunch. I'd highly recommend a reservation; this is a small place with a handful of tables and a small staff, but that makes it charming. You feel like you're eating in a friend's dining room. We had chicken and waffles, along with the warm brie on a baguette. Truly delicious all around. I will be back the next time I visit Philadelphia!

The food was good but the service very slow. The waiter was very attentive so I think the kitchen must have been backed up.

Our first time going for brunch. Great coffee - one French press and one cappuccino. Fresh squeezed OJ. The English Breakfast shakshuka was delish, not too spicy but flavorful. My nephew loved his Belgian waffles and my brother is still talking what a lovely place it was. Low key, not noisy even though small. Will definitely be back.

Inexpensively priced gourmet. Interesting array of foods from cheeseburger to beef Bourguignon. Delicious brussel sprouts. BYOB. Attentive service. A little upset to be charged for a refill of iced tea, but the prices overall were very reasonable so did not complain.

We ate outside - wonderful for watching the neighborhood dogs enjoying their walks on a lovely Spring day. I had the very tasty mushroom shepherds pie and my friend had a gorgeous ratatouille topped with spiraling slices of squash and tomato- almost too pretty to eat. Love this neighborhood gem.

What a terrific Wednesday evening. Delicious food, the kale salad had a terrific dressing and was shareable, chicken and waffles were the perfect balance of sweet, savory and heat, and the lemony sauce with the salmon was wipe the plate clean, so good. A wonderful duo David and Luke guitar and saxophone were perfect dinner musicians, no speakers or electronics so volume was no concern for conversation some vocals interspersed. Ended with banana pudding in mason jar and the flavor was perfect. Samantha, our server, was happy to share opinions on food choices. Midweek recovery, and one of our favorites restaurants.

Dinner was delicious! Very knowledgeable about Celiac disease and the need to be gluten free. Server was very pleasant and attentive to her customers. Would definitely recommend and oplan on a return visit. Thanks for a very enjoyable and delicious pre-theater!

It was a very slow Saturday and it took over an hour for our meals to be served. The burger and biscuits & gravy were good, but the service was extremely slow and unapologetic.

Mabu Kitchen is a cozy, friendly dining spot, with wonderful, comforting food. It just makes me happy to eat here while people-watching out the window on this Washington Square West neighborhood. I had the cod special and the French onion soup which was perfect for a winter’s evening. My dining companion pronounced the Brick chicken the best chicken ever.

Good experience overall. Food is very good. Only issue I had is there was only 1 wait staff for the entire packed restaurant, she was awesome. But as someone who worked in restaurants prior makes me think about poor management. Because of the low staff it took an hour just to get bread. This would be a 5star review if restaurant management did better at staffing. Again the waitress that was there was awesome and she did what she could but it was a full restaurant and she could not help timing.

Mabu was a lovely place to dine for Valentine’s Day and a much-needed BYOB with French/Southern cuisine. We had the citrusy beets appetizer and warm bread to start. Enjoyed the fish entrée and mushroom shepherds pie, which were well-sized portions. The ambiance is cozy and romantic with low lighting. I am obsessed with the mud pie dessert- so silky and chocolatey! Paired perfectly with an after-dinner coffee. Will definitely be back!

The waitress was fantastic. Overall all the experience was average at best. We were charged a $20 no show fee for one person in our party of 8 who was unable to come because they had the flu. Our bill totaled almost $400 yet the owner was very unwilling to budge on her policy and that soured an already average experience.

Sorry you were upset about our no-show policy. As explained, we are a tiny restaurant and it hurts us when people don't show up, much less on a Friday night. You reserved a table for 8 people, which incidentally, takes up a third of our restaurant. You showed up with 7 people, which calls for a different table entirely, but one we could not accommodate last minute. We understand people get the flu, but we also hope you understand that holding a table for you larger than needed equals lost revenue for us. In the end, we gave you back your $20 but you refused it, choosing to write a poor review instead about your "average experience."

Mabu is a gem on Pine street. Great for couples & small groups. Dinner menus is interesting and creative. We had the grilled octopus (the best ever) and Seared Duck Leg confit . OUTSTANDING ! Our friend had the Shrimp & grits and loved it. Topped it off with Mud Pie (made in house) and 20 oz French Press coffee. Now our favorite restaurant in Center City AND BYOB!!!!!!

Delicious and charming place! The room has ambient lighting, beautiful artworks and friendly, efficient service. We had brunch and the Dutch Baby was the star of the table, but all the dishes were well prepared and presented. Will make a return visit to Philadelphia for dinner next time!

We had a very nice meal, I ordered the duck and my partner ordered the ratatouille, and we both ordered the French onion soup. Everything tasted great. The space was small,pleasant, and intimate and friendly. It’s BYOB. There is nowhere to wait inside, so you’ll need to make sure you have a reservation if the weather is not good. The night we were there there was only one waitress who did all of the floor work so the service wasn’t overly fast (not a complaint) I’m not sure if that’s typical or just the night we were there, but leave ample time if you have time constraints. Overall, I think it’s a nice meal for the value at a friendly intimate neighborhood cafe.

Hidden Gem! Small, cozy, romantic, and a great value. Food was delicious. (I did have to remove the fat from my duck leg on my own, but that is a minor quibble!) One appetizer, 2 entrees, and two coffees (cafe con leche) totaled $81 which is definitely less than comparable restaurants. Easy walk to the Kimmel Center. Will definitely return.
