The presentation was beautiful and the food was perfect. Wagyu and uni hand roll was the best I’ve ever tasted. Our server was sweet and attentive. A perfect meal.

We were disappointed to find out of a change in ownership. No longer able to make certain items gluten free. Didn’t have a gluten free menu. Gave me the whole allergy list instead. Waitress dressed inappropriately.

Everything was delicious. Loved the Snorlax neon. Service was good. Surprised when we ordered the mochi ice cream for dessert. Two orders, two balls, $14.00?? Wish the parking situation in the neighborhood was better.b

Everything was delicious. Because it was so busy one of our items came out incorrectly and it took us a little while to pay. Never had this issue before though.

The place is tiny and the tables are really close together. Music is extremely loud in the back. Not a good place for a date. The food was fine, service wasn't too good

Food is delicious but service ranges from fine to atrocious - my food was not entered in, and then they tried to remember what I ordered without asking me to avoid telling me, and got it wrong (after waiting for an hour).

Got the okonomi, courses came out in very odd timings, seemed like the servers were not interested in coming over and checking for drink refills while we waited almost an hour for one of the courses. Fish quality was great. Menu doesn’t really make sense. Very weird experience. Seems like there are staffing issues. Classic north Philly spot trying to jump on a trend without really knowing how to execute it.

I left a note for Izakaya to advise my partner has a food allergy. The only thing our waitress did for us was tell us to order the hibachi rice and karange chicken (might as well told my partner to order a kiddie meal), that the kitchen was unwilling to accommodate. Understandable for their maki options, sushi, sashimi, rolls, etc. but the ramen too? Ridiculous– they claimed the broth was made with seaweed, therefore they would not make a bowl of ramen without the seaweed for him. Not cool. They have a tasting experience, and because he wouldn't be able to eat maki (everyone had to do it), we were unable to do that individually as well. We ordered two karange chickens- to their credit, it was good, as was the sauce that comes with it. I (OP), ordered the salmon avocado sushi, that was delicious. My partner had the hibachi fried rice. It was disgusting. It was so wet it was almost porridge. Absolutely inedible. We also ordered snow crab wonton tacos, they were interesting yet delicious. They also have Japanese whisky, but they don't put that on the menu. Ask about it if you're interested. They recommend the Fuyu if you want something cheap. Suntory Hakushu can go upwards of $80 a pour. Total food we ordered overall was around $140 minus tip. We were very disappointed we had to order multiple dishes, as everything was a small portion. The food was good, but the service we experienced (especially with a food allergy) was unacceptable. We weren't expecting the whole menu to be seaweed-free, but the fact that they refused to accommodate on the ramen and only told us if something had seaweed on the menu, gave us a somewhat neutered experience. Also, apparently Chef Yanaga is not at Izakaya anymore. Kind of telling if someone left their own restaurant things got bad.

The entire place smelled like a scented candle, because there was a praline scented candle burning at each end of the restaurant, which is a particularly weird choice for a sushi place. It was intense and therefore worth mentioning. The food was pretty good overall, though the beef in the lettuce wraps was way too sweet, and the sauce on the bok choy was too much and too salty (bok choy was cooked to perfection, though, yum). The nigiri and sushi rolls were really good. Drinks were ok. My fizz with egg whites was served on ice which I did not expect (should be shaken and served up), but was otherwise good. The first NA beverage with unmi was not good. Really not a good flavor. Nobody at the table liked it. The servers were very friendly but also seemed nervous and eager, and didn't know enough about the drinks, which I gather are a main component of the restaurant's menu.

I don't if the restaurant was understaffed but the service at the bar where we sat was extremely slow. Not great on communication either. Food was excellent.

The best part of the dinner was prosecco. Literally the worst rolls I've ever had in my life. Sashimi was just OK. Food is not memorable. The ambiance was quite nice. All negative reviews you can find are so true. Overpriced, salty, nothing outstanding.

Overall food quality was not great. Sushi did not even come with wasabi or ginger. The name translates to local bar, and it is just what it is. Nothing special, bar food.

Everything was amazing. Highly recommend doing the chef tasting. Four courses and the entree was not small at all. We got the Brazino and it was a whole fish with 2 starters and 1 dessert for $28. Although, I would say we got the curry bao buns and it didn’t really taste like curry, but nonetheless it was still very good. Def would return!

Expensive for the portions and freshness of food. Lots of fluff instead of fish/crab in the selections. Gave a pea-sized amount of wasabi--for what? For the fashionable look? Because it's not a great look. Will not be returning.
