Since 2011, EMei has emerged as one of Philadelphia's premier dining destinations, celebrated for its authentic Chinese cuisine curated by Master Chef Zhao and a team of 6 wok chefs that born and trained in the Sichuan region of China.
Boasting over 50 years of expertise in mastering Sichuan cuisine, Chef Zhao skillfully infuses dishes with bold chili oils, aromatic peppercorns, and expertly seasoned cuts of fish, meat, and produce.
Situated conveniently in Chinatown, EMei diligently procures fresh ingredients daily. With a menu featuring 120 items, including house-made egg rolls and dumplings, we take pride in crafting everything in-house. I have a gluten allergy and the menu is very user-friendly for those who have to navigate those options. Haven’t had general tsos chicken in YEARS and I was ecstatic to see that I was able to have a gluten free version. Absolutely delicious and will be going again soon.

The food was delicious and a great value. I would not recommend making a late reservation even though they are available. We were expected to have our order in 5 minutes after we were seated (directly under an air conditioning vent) which was not exactly welcoming. I would definitely come back earlier in the day!

Food was not cheap for Chinese food. There were food items that were good, like the dumplings and string beans. But the entrees were not remarkable by any means. I’m surprised this is in the top 50 for Philadelphia Magazine.

The food and service were fantastic. The only drawback was the very loud table next to us who were yelling so loudly at each other, our group could not hear each other properly or fully enjoy our meal.

Delicious food, arrived quickly. Highly recommend hot and spicy fish filet. Also had a coconut milk which was nice with the spice of the meal, and reminded me of my childhood

general tso portions are half of what they used to be. on top of that, it doesn't taste good anymore. kung pao was absolutely uneatable. weird smell. Lo mein was mediocre, which meant it was the highlight of the meal.

Dan Dan noodles were “fire” (really tasty but not too spicy). One of the best Hot and Sour soups I’ve had! I’ll be back next PHL layover!

The best Chinese food in Philly - bar none! Try an insiders secret - order the cumin lamb but substitute chicken (not on the menu). It is superb. And the wait staff are friendly and quick!

We had lunch at EMei. It was quiet, comfortable and the staff was pleasant. Waiter was good, food was filling and the restaurant was clean. Prices are a little high for lunch but will return. Location is right outside of the Gate.

Reasonably authentic Sichuan food for a restaurant in downtown Philadelphia. Spicy with numbing pepper, and flavorful. Friendly wait staff. The poor hostess was overwhelmed by the crowd of walk-ins from a convention in town, but we were seated close to our scheduled time.

The food and service were great as always. The only thing I did not appreciate was there was a large party that seemed to be waiting for 2 adjacent round tables. We had pretty much finished our meal when this group started to hover over us. The staff should have had them wait at the bar or outside. Our reservation was for 6:00 and the hovering started at 7:40. Not sure if they had a reservation or not but the restaurant never mentioned that they needed the table by a certain time.

Came on Chinese New Year so it was pretty busy. That did NOT effect the service or the food. It was so delicious and plentiful. Couldn’t stop thinking of it. Highly recommend for vegans. Many options and the staff was very knowledge to help. Already planning on my return.

As always: great food & terrific service! We had dishes we often have: beef with long peppers; fried pork & cabbage dumplings; flounder dry wok; and snow pea leaves with fresh garlic: every single dish was perfect. It was a delight to celebrate the new year at EMei.

My party and I had a wonderful experience at Emei this past weekend. It was Lunar New Year weekend and I really wanted to make it to Philly Chinatown to celebrate. I was so happy to see that Emei took reservations! we were seating immediately and all of the food was delicious! The stand outs were tea duck, house lo mein, pork belly, and spicy crispy chicken bites! would recommend and come again!

We had high hopes because of the many accolades EMei has had and were disappointed with the food. Seasoning was not subtle, and food textures were not what we were hoping for.

Service and ambience was great. However, the food was not up to par. The lo mein arrived cold at our table and we had to request for this to be heated up again. The entrees do not come with rice. We ordered a side of rice with our spicy eggplant in garlic sauce. The rice never arrived, yet it was charged on our bill. Overall, the food lacked flavor and spice. Unfortunately, will not be back.

Dines here before a show at city winery. Service was great. Food was freshly made and tasty. This place isn’t fancy, but it’s quick, with great staff.

Best Chinese food I had in a long time. Busy night, but service was excellent.
