Carnal focuses on the bold flavors of wood fire and caramelization balanced with acidic, raw, and seasonal elements. We are a passionate group of cooks who do not cut corners and hope that is evident when you try our food. Our signature dish is a bone-in beef rib that is sous-vide before grilling over an open wood fire and finished with rendered bone-marrow. We source many of our ingredients from local farms and fisheries.

    We continue to be drawn to Carnal because the menu is consistently inventive and the preparation uncanny. Garlic fried potatoes dusted with delicately grated French hard cheese, not melted but somehow rendered a crispy golden brown, hanger steak, seared on the outside and uniformly rare in the middle with glazed mushrooms and a delightful dollop of mushroom pate, snap pea salad, wedges of baked eggplant drizzled in lamb jus and garnished with crisp-fried herbs. Eat here.

    Ate here 2 years ago, menu has changed , not for the better. Wine selection is good , brioche was good but for amount of food we got way way way overpriced . I went home hungry after spending over $140 - and I am a 5’7” 122 lb woman so gives you an idea how little food there was. Dessert was a joke! The chocolate mousse was 50-60% whip cream! Alittle chocolate on top. Maybe Ive been spoiled eating in Europe. I’ll just cook at home, i can do much better .

    You can’t miss here. Exceptional food and drink. Great service. Probably the best dining establishment in Bellingham.

    Went with family for a business conversation. We had an excellent table and service was prompt. I have eaten a vegan diet for over 6 years and yet Carnal is still one of my favorite restaurants in town. I had 2 salads and a potato side dish, all three of these were exceptional. My guests had the flank steak and the ribs, and I have to say it looked delicious. They both said their meal was excellent and the servings were large enough that they had food to take home.

    Creative food with very interesting flavor combinations. The accompanying wines were very good. Carnal's wine dinners are not to be missed.

    We really enjoyed our visit but the tables are a bit close together, it feels like we're all at a dinner party and everyone can chime in on our conversation. The food was very good, tho the menu is a bit limited. It would be nice to have some daily specials to extend the menu.

    We love Carnal. The food is always excellent. Great flavor and texture combinations and it change often enough to keep it interesting. The waitstaff is always congenial, helpful and professional.

    We always have a great experience at Carnal. The service is very attentive and friendly but not overbearing. The food is delicious. We had the straciatella, little gem salad, black cod which was my favorite, and the Pork. All were amazing. We did have the dark chocolate cremeaux for dessert and that was a disappointment. But I take my desserts very seriously, so I tend to be more critical. I thought it was pretentious, an effort to be creative but missed the mark, and just not very tasty or satisfying. But also, some places just don’t specialize in dessert or it’s not a focus and that’s okay. Overall, the food and service are worthy of five stars. Just maybe skip dessert.
