Open seven days a week, Alder & Ash is located at the corner of 7th and Pike in downtown Seattle. Right in the heart of the Central Business District, Alder & Ash is the perfect place for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a late night cocktail.

Breakfast is offered daily from 6am to 10:30am, followed by lunch from 11am to 3pm, happy hour from 4pm to 6pm and dinner from 5pm to 10pm.

I went to Alder & Ash for Mother's Day brunch primarily on the strength of the reviews on this site so feel compelled to add my review since our experience was the exact opposite of what I had read. I would never go again or recommend it. The service was completely incompetent. It began with waiting for over 8 minutes beyond our reservation to be sat for a more than half empty restaurant. Then it took a long time for someone to come by and ask for drinks and they were very perfunctory. Considering it was Mother's Day brunch and we were there with 3 out of 4 mothers, there was nothing even said about the day or even a warm or welcoming approach. Coffee finally came but had been so spilled into the saucer that we had to ask for a napkin or new saucer which was ultimately brought. How the waiter did not feel uncomfortable setting it down on the table as if it was nothing is beyond me. There were no silverware on the table and it required three asks and ultimately us leaning over to the table next to us to steal their silverware for our table. We had water glasses but no one filled them and we had to ask multiple times to get them filled. We were also informed on the special Mother's Day menu that many of the items were not available until later in the morning despite our 9:30 (or by this time 10:00) time. In terms of ambience, it is a large restaurant as part of a hotel. That is fine, but it wasn't advertised as such and certainly there was no feeling of warmth or anything special. The food was fine (mine came a little cold) but others were ok so I think mine must have been done first and then waited for the others. Overall, very disappointing and stressful as we needed to go out of our way to get the basics taken care of and we were hoping for a happy positive Mother's Day.

The fried chicken sandwich was excellent - with a crispy crust, and moist on the inside; the topping was spicy but not too biting. I substituted the salad for fries - it was excellent as well, as was the espresso martini. The service was excellent as far as intention, including the caring wait staff and the front entrance person - at lunchtime, clearly, they were far too busy but tried as well as they could. I mention this because they made it clear that they cared, that I was not being ignored, and apologized for the wait time. This made a difference to me because as a solo elderly female diner it is easy for me to get overlooked, and in a busy place (with a large lunchtime crowd from the nearby convention center) that is not unusual. The environment was charming - a slightly retro mid-century look, fun and hip but not overdoing it. It was lively but not overly noisy despite large parties. A tip: for lunchtime, book a reservation online, as people coming in were told there were long waits (and there were clearly many people waiting) but online there seemed to be availability for shorter waits. Given the food, environment, and caring service, I will be sure to go back soon, and bring friends with me.:)

Four of us went for Restaurant Week and were surprised to have a generous portioned meal, good service and delicious food. We tried the Caesar salad which used my fave Little Gem lettuce, others ordered the crispy salmon cakes, all were great. Entrees we tried were beef short ribs accompanied with polenta and brussel sprouts and pappardelle bolognese. Both dishes were excellent, an added bonus was everything was piping hot! For dessert we chose huckleberry profiteroles, mango sorbet and raspberry sorbet. Sadly their soft serve machine was down but I loved the profiteroles. Portions were big, we all shared tastes, sorbets popped with flavor. We were delighted with our meal!
