ATX Cocina experiments with the boundaries of Mexican cuisine. We have taken traditional Mexican dishes and elevated them with modern approaches and techniques. Corn, the basis of the Mexican cuisine for thousands of years, is also the foundation of our kitchen. We nixtamalize and process our masa in house sourcing it from heirloom varieties of corn grown by small family farms in Mexico.
Bacalar is a neighborhood restaurant inspired by the Yucatan Peninsula region of Mexico. Located on Lady Bird Lake in Austin’s Rainey Street Historic District, the restaurant was created by Bravo Top Chef Winner, Chef/Partner Gabe Erales and the team at Urbanspace Hospitality. Our thoughtfully-designed space is an immersive experience inspired by nature, accompanied by a menu that highlights the nuances of the diverse global influences of the Yucatan region. We welcome you and your family of all ages for a relaxed and fun dining experience of unique Mexican flavors. Our covered patio encompasses views of the newly renovated Lady Bird Lake trail activation directly across from the restaurant.Reservations are recommended but walk-ins are welcomed any day of the week (closed Mondays).
Located on the 5th floor of the Austin Proper Hotel, La Piscina Ceviches & Fajitas is a convivial poolside restaurant and bar serving Texas-inspired Mexican cuisine. The vibrant, open space overlooks the downtown Austin bustle as groups convene over family-style platters, ceviches and table-top sizzling fajitas, with fresh seafood grilled over a wood fire and house-made tortillas from an open comal. The cantina cocktail bar specializes in Agave offering unique and small batch mezcals and tequilas.
