Chelsea Tavern is a local popular gastropub located in downtown Wilmington, directly across from the Grand Opera House. The kitchen prepares delicious comfort food consisting of locally grown and house made ingredients, that is complemented by our dynamic craft beer selection. Chelsea’s ever-changing inventory features 33 beers on tap, hundreds of large format bottles, cans, and single serving bottles of seasonal and local brews. This was my second time at the Chelsea Tavern. I took my wife there for Mother's Day. We were seated downstairs due to our table upstairs catching the breeze every time the door was opened. Our server was very good and the food was very tasty. My wife got the Eggs & Ricotta Toast w/Tator Tots and I got the Crispy Shrimp and Grits. The place was noisy but other than that we had a nice experience. I would come back again.

Tried to order pizza but their pizza oven was broken which we didn’t know until we ordered. Asked for no onions on both burgers, both came with onions. Rolls were toasted and burnt, but we had a show to catch so we didn’t have time to send back and wait. Overall, would never go again.

Tables were too close to each other which made dining difficult. There was a table of 4 next to me and two people’s back and rear end was about 4 inches from me. I asked host if he could move table a few inches and he said no as he needed to maximize the space since the restaurant was sold out. There was a booth in front of me that stayed empty the whole time. The server was very good and attentive. Food was tasty and fresh. Flourless Chocolate Cake was super delicious. Because of the cramped seats we most likely will not be returning.

I have been visiting often since you opened your doors. I can honestly say that this visit was the best overall experience that I have had at the tavern. Lindsey is a gem. She’s very nice. I didn’t get his name, but the man who was sweeping and doing a lot of other stuff can not be replaced. He is genuinely sincere. I have never seen him before. He took the time out, as busy as the tavern was prior to a show, to actually, speak to guests. This is rare at Chelsea‘s. I hope that he stays because he is a welcomed addition. Thank you.

Great location. Thankfully I arrived early for our reservation. We had a hiccup with Open Table as I canceled the 5:45 and booked the 6:30. They did NOT have the new res even though I received confirmation. The host was helpful and able to seat us and all worked out. Because of their location near entertainment venues they are super busy between 5 and 7:30. The servers were a bit rushed but pleasant. Food was good and had a nice selection. If you are going to the Opera House this is the perfect place to go!

We had a reservation. We were given a table for two in a LONG row of tables that were about 6 inches apart. Essentially we were sitting with 4 strangers (2 on our right and 2 on our left). It was actually a communal table for 20. We could hear the people next to us more clearly than each other. We know about their PT appointments, their tedious house guests and the children that never visit. The service was prompt. The food was fine (not great), although the salad was seriously underdressed and we don't like to have a lot of dressing. They charged for additional dressing. We should have left and gone for fast food somewhere. At least we would have had a table to ourselves.

Chelse Tavern is convenient if you are going to the Grand but if you are a party of two and they place you at one of the tables in the middle of their dining area you are on top of the people next to you. I our case last night, we were placed a small table right near the kitchen entrance and the servers had to almost touch us to squeeze by the table. There really shouldn't have been a table there. The server was fine once he came back to take out order. Overall, the experience was not that pleasurable except for it being across from The Grand.
