Virgil’s is our favorite barbecue restaurant in nyc. Service is always good and the food is amazing. We came to celebrate my son’s graduation and it’s also our go to place when we go to the theater.

Great food, great hospitality. Don't get kicked out right after dinner, leet you finish also another drink at your own pace. Excellent service by the whole team! Also let you take full advantage of happy hour, absolutely fair and correct!

Twenty years ago, my wife and I came to NYC and tried Virgil’s BBQ and it was AMAZING! Over the years, we’ve told countless amounts of people to be sure and visit them for a meal when visiting the city. Today, we brought our now grown kids to eat here so they could experience what we did so many years ago. Unfortunately, we were all disappointed. The service was just okay as our waitress clearly didn’t look like she was happy to be there. The food was warm (at best) and not hot and really just wasn’t that great from what once had. It was bland, flavorless, and very underwhelming. We were so disappointed that one of our great food memories has now lost its way and will now be one of our NYC restaurants that we (will not) be recommending in the future. Sad.

It was my birthday and I went with my niece from California. We’d been there several times but this time we had the best waiter and the food was tasty (bbq ribs awesome, but brisket was just ok). Will, of course, dine there again as I have since Virgil’s opened at that location in the 1990’s.

My wife and I had a fantastic experience at Virgil's! Authentic and tasty smokehouse food as it should be, all explained passionately by Tony who served us - who was an extremely polite and knowledgeable host who ran us through the history and background of this fine eatery. I would have zero hold ups in recommending this traditional NY restaurant if you want honest, tasty and well cooked food.... 5*!

Tasty food, very friendly service and reasonable value. A good cross section of menu items to suit appetites and tastes (though bring a healthy appetite!!). Recommended for a fun dinner, especially in a group

Requested a hi-top table, but was sent to a lower level table. Then had to wait longer than promised for the table type requested. Once we tracked-down the hostess who brought us to the wrong table, we were eventually seated. Then the server wasn't informative. We asked about specials, and were told that baby-back ribs were probably sold out, when we asked him to check (a second time), we were then told there was only enough for one order left, and we need to hurry-up with our decision. In addition, we had to ask several times for drinks and carry-out containers. Then, had to track him down, to ask for the check. When we got the check we were overcharged ($32.95) for Brisket with two sides, which I just noticed is $29.95, on the website menu. I have eaten at your restaurant many times, as I am a member of the bar association, two blocks way, however this experience mandated this review.
