Situé à l'extrémité sud du centre-ville de Encinitas sur la route historique 101, UNION Kitchen & Tap sert une nouvelle cuisine américaine dans une ambiance accueillante et chaleureuse, propice à la détente et à la convivialité. Le chef-propriétaire Jason Gethin a créé un menu changeant fréquemment, qui repose en grande partie sur les ingrédients locaux et biologiques. We used to come here way back in the beginning years ago when it first opened, and it was a fun lively place with good food. It has gone way downhill over the years: Terrible service. Our server forgot about us several times. In fact, it took almost 20 minutes for her to even get to our table to take her drink order and all we were getting was water. We felt bad she was so busy. It’s very loud in there, but it is a bar atmosphere so that’s to be expected. The food was awful. Overly flavored, heavy on the sauces, but I suppose that’s also typical of a bar.

Great food, drinks and staff--a local jewel! Steak frites and OG burger are the best. They make an excellent paper plane and use big ice cubes...service is friendly, attentive, and efficient. Live music on the weekends--if too loud there's street and patio dining.

We sat outside on the heated patio where the noise level was very manageable. (Inside was loud!) Our food and drinks were delicious and our server was amazing! I wish I could remember her name, but she was fantastic. She was there the second we needed anything, but gave us plenty of time to relax and enjoy ourselves. We really enjoyed our dinner.

Great service as always, we had a few of the flatbreads, best being the breakfast and mushroom ones, they were absolutely delicious! This place is consistently great; our go to for brunch on the weekends…

Thank you UNION. This was my second Easter at Union and it was perfect. We went early (with kids), there were Easter eggs for them to find, mimosas were flowing and food was good and fast. Thank you to our server Kevin

Our waitress was Evan and she was very attentive and had a nice demeanor.We were celebrating a birthday - received a beautiful dessert for the birthday girl! Very nice touch! I ordered the Shrimp Grits which was fabulous! Good food - nice location and good service! I would highly recommend checking out this restaurant.

I took my kiddos to Union for brunch. I have been there several times and have been happy overall. This time, the waiter made a food recommendation to me that turned-out to be absolutely inedible. I ate one bite and could eat no more. It was obvious that I was unhappy with the food but the waiter didn't ask why or offer an alternative, he just took the full plate away. It should have been obvious that I was not satisfied but he chose not to take any notice.

Atmosphere was dark and dingy, seemed dirty. Not well maintained or inviting. Food was ok, nothing special plus they screwed up my order. Would not return. 3 in my party, price was over 100.00 with 2 hamburgers and a shrimp taco, one wine, one dessert. Food just wasn't that good.

Great execution of bar/tap room eating experience, with a menu far better than basic pub grub. It is a fun lively atmosphere. Would be enhance if the volume of the music was turned down slightly.

We always like the food and drinks here! I made a reservation knowing it was bound to be busy for Sunday brunch. I did not get the seat I requested because it was just too crowded outside as it was a nice, sunny day! But the staff accommodated us by seating us as close to the outside as was available and opened the window that led out to the street to give us some fresh air! Really enjoyed our Sunday brunch at this popular Encinitas hangout. We will be back!

As a long time fan of the Union, it pains me to give this review. We have been regular customers for over 12 years and have recommended the Union to friends, family and Open Table diners as a quintessential quality San Diego gastropub. Unfortunately, our dinner Saturday night was a significant departure from this past experience. We started with a Beet Salad ($16.00) which may have had one beet at most, a few crumbles of gorgonzola, no nuts, mostly a lot of arugula (in the past multiple multicolored beets, gorgonzola, candied walnuts). My fisherman's stew ($28.00) was a travesty. Instead of the large bowl crammed with fish and seafood as in the past, the bottom of the bowl was barely covered with the stew, that had four mussels (one of which had not opened), a few chunks of fish, and two shrimp. The two large flame toasted buttered croutons I was accustomed to were replaced with two anemic slices of untoasted cold bread. My wife's short ribs ($31.00) were not as bad but were poorly sauced. Service was attentive as always, and the salad did come out first as requested (by about a minute) and the energetic upbeat atmosphere and lively bar were pretty much unchanged. To be fair, any restaurant can have an off night, but I am concerned that a there appeared to be a see change--smaller portion sizes, decreased quantity and quality of food with increased prices--that could be deliberate on the part of management. We have enjoyed the Union many times over the years and I will give them another chance, but I can't give the glowing recommendations that I have repeatedly done in the past. Come on guys, get your act together. You had a winning ticket for many years, please don't blow it. If you have to raise your prices then do so, but don't chase off customers by destroying quality and value in the name of profit. Sorry, but that's my $ 0.02 cents.

Overall experience is always pretty good. However, our service last night was sub-par. Both hostess and our server lacked any real personality and just appeared disinterested in putting forth much effort. Our food was brought out timely and we were consistently asked if we needed more to drink, however, always done without a smile or any real concern. The food was pretty good, however, the short rib was a little too fatty for my taste. Of course, after the sub-par server experience, our server wasn't shy about standing near you while you determined which was the appropriate pre-selected tip amount she would be getting 20%, 23% or 25%!!!! To bad the service industry has gotten to this point where everyone feels entitled to "extra" money when not completely deserving of the wage their getting. We will be back for beers by windows, but not too often.

Love this place. I can always expect excellent service and delicious food. Shrimp and Grits, Gumbo, meatballs, wings, chicken - all winners. Can’t wait for warmer weather to bring my pup to the outdoor patio - she likes their dog meals too!

I visited Union Kitchen and Tap yesterday with 2 friends. It is our favorite place to meet in Encinitas because we love the food and service and it is a short walk to the Meditation Gardens. Yesterday’s experience was as good as ever. Jennifer was our server and she is always so warm and professional. We will return there again and again.

Ordered just small plate bites b/c we weren't super hungry. The wings and crab cakes were delicious, done to perfection. Next time we'll be back for the burgers!

I went here with a group of 8, and even though we were late, they held the table. The food was excellent. Service was warm and friendly.

The reservation process went well, although I had difficulty modifying my reservation to add another guest through OpenTable, but a phone call to the restaurant solved the problem. We had reservations for 1PM and the Prime Rib Special started at 2PM so we had the dining area where we were seated to ourselves. The wait staff was polite and professional, and the food was excellent. I'll definitely visit this place again.

They were a bit overwhelmed at lunch but servers did a great job trying to keep up. Probably because of the holidays. Great layout for the restaurant. Much larger than expected. Will try the outside patio tables far in the restaurant next time.

Our server was amazing. Only issue was one of my guests could not eat any pork products. She really wanted one of the eggs benedicts but the server told us that all of the benedicts must come with the bacon-mustard hollisdase sauce and that the kitchen couldn't do it another way... That seemed strange so my guest ordered the vegetarian green omelet instead. She was okay with it but was disappointed because she wanted the benedict eggs without the sauce.....

Hadn't been to UNION Kitchen for a while, and it didn't disappoint! Salads (kale and beet) were fresh and tasty. Gumbo was delish but the portion size is too big. Both people who ordered it couldn't get through the bowl -- recommend that you add a cup size, which would be a perfect accompaniment.
