Tojo a grandi après la guerre au Japon sous la splendide montagne volcanique nommé Sakurajima à Kagoshima, à la pointe sud du Japon. À son jeune âge, il a voyagé à Osaka où il devient apprenti dans le célèbre restaurant Ohnoya, qui est l'un des principaux ryotei du Japon, un restaurant de type très haut de gamme et très traditionnel. Pendant des années, Tojo a travaillé 16 heures par jour à Ohnoya, il a ainsi maîtrisé un répertoire encyclopédique de près de 2000 recettes traditionnelles japonaises qu'il peut faire resurgir de sa mémoire même aujourd'hui. Ici, il a également développé les disciplines de sélectionner les poissons et les produits les plus frais . Reconnaissant que sa passion pour la créativité le conduisait au-delà des frontières strictes de la cuisine au Japon, Tojo a choisi de venir en Amérique du Nord en 1971, où il a estimé qu'une population multiculturelle sans a priori serait plus réceptif à ses idées. Il a trouvé son public parfait à Vancouver.

Tojo's veteran chefs Dragon & Tomo takes to the sushi bar to launch an all-new lunch Omakase. Expect courses to be brightened with fresh and vibrant ingredients and playful spins on the traditional. The menu at will feature a soup course, ten courses of nigiri and a cooked dish. Cost is $185 / person, inclusive of taxes and gratuity. For any modifications and cancellations to your reservation, please submit your request to info@tojos.com as changes and refunds will need to be processed manually. There are no refunds for cancellations made made within 2 days of your reservation date.

Tojo-san’s vision comes through in his food, his restaurant and kitchen design. The restaurant still looks modern after these many years. There’s frying ( tempura dishes ) going on but your nose wouldn’t know it. Tojo-san is obviously of Japanese descent but considers himself Canadian fully ( perhaps some day he will use Alberta Beef LOL ). He is truly a food ambassador. Although his sushi is excellent I’ll eat anything he braises, fries, simmers, smokes or steams. Even his dessert nicely rounds out the meal. The price point of the omakase means special occasion only for me.

An outstanding, intimate curated lunch - like sitting in Chef’s kitchen and casually chatting with him while he plays with different tastes. The sublety and freshness of flavour and texture was amazing. And the Sake! Wow!

“If you haven’t tried Tojo’s, you haven’t tried sushi.” The man invented most of the maki rolls we eat in North America. He is a true artist and wonderful person. His staff are trained to provide patrons with a beautiful and memorable dining experience. He hand picks the finest ingredients and personally prepares the dishes with the highest level of skill possible. If there is one restaurant in Vancouver you ever visit, this is the place.

It was an amazing experience. All fresh and local! Absolutely beautiful! Worth every penny. This is not your ordinary sushi place. This a high end Japanese restaurant. And Tojo is there performing his magic! Highly recommended!!!

The sushi bar experience here, quite honestly and demonstrably, is like no other. By far, without comparison, the top sushi experience in Canada, using any metric of comparison. Beautifully and deliciously done!

Absolutely amazing. Every single dish was mind blowing! Everything was five star, I just wish it was a little less expensive so I could afford to dine here more often! We always enjoy going to Tojo’s for special occasions! Awesome selection sashimi and nigiri selections. We tried two kinds of Sake and both were great! Bonus points - photo ops with Tojo the man himself! Highly recommend

This must be the very best Japanese restaurant in Vancouver (and there's no shortage of competition). Tojo has been running this most delicious piece of the great Japanese culinary tradition for several decades now and he has arrived at the very pinnacle that combines a deep knowledge of tradition to excellence in culinary craftmanship. The food is incredibly good and the service is impeccable, courteous but not overbearing, attentive and informative. I cannot recommend it enough!

My wife and I enjoyed the omekasu for our anniversary. It was a great experience and chef Tojo really made it special. Every dish was incredible!

Everything was amazing and exceeded my expectations. The service was the best I've ever experienced in my life. The food was outstanding. Tojo is a lovely guy and he posed for a picture with us. We went there for my 30th birthday and we will be back.

Great sushi rolls and tempura. I started enjoying Tojo’s over 40 years ago and it remains one of my favourite Vancouver restaurants. Arigatou to Tojo and his great staff like Hiroko for another great night!

Service was good. Sashimi slices were on the thick side, salmon sashimi was cut strangely in ebsp shape that looked like part of an undesirable part of the salmon, scallop was too thin. All in all not as authentic as what I would get in average Tokyo restaurants, even though the chefs appear to be Japanese. Sashimi didn’t come with daikon strands but thick slices. Kind of strange presentation. Didn’t have Wakame with the dish. Skimped on wasabi. The miso Karaage was interesting but I prefer the original karaage. The tempura batter is a bit heavier than those in tempura restaurants in Japan. Also I had to ask for daikon for the dipping sauce. I was told the sauce already had daikon mixed in but I couldn’t taste it. All in all it was not value for our dining experience.

Seafood was fresh and Sushi here is amazing. Service was spectacular….have never had better service. My only small issue is that it’s quite expensive for small portions. Would not keep me from going back though maybe just not as often as I’d like. If your looking for the best sushi, look no further. Would highly recommended

Fabulous experience. Have tried 95% of the most famous/well known Japanese restaurants in town; dine at some of those restaurants frequently in different seasons. Tojo’s still brought me some wonderful memories among all those experiences. The cooked fish at the beginning are just as good as other famous Japanese restaurants in the town; they are tasty, but didn’t exceed my expectations, although the smoked sablefish is quite special on its smoky taste and source. Baked salmon itself is normal, but the mushroom source is Sooooo creamy. Sashimi, the selection and fish choices are not as good as what we expected(was hoping if there would be some Japanese uni or other Hokkaido crabs); however, the fish are exactly what I had in Japan. I’m not a big fan of Salmon since there are too many special types of fish which are better than salmon, but the salmon at Tojo’s brought me the same memory of my first sashimi in Japan———I went to Japan another two times since my first visit, but couldn’t find that taste again, thanks Tojo’s! The bluefin is amazing———I had toro all the time, but this bluefin is extremely tender and juicy———just had toros multiple times in the last few weeks, but this toro shocked me and my wife. Wagyu is a huge surprise. I had different types of A5 Kobe or Miyazaki wagyu before in the town and in other countries; used to think the Kobe steak I had in Monaco to be the best, but this wagyu is extreamllllly juicy(my wife and kid had the same comment). Was later told by the manager that besides the normal A5 grading system, its marbling is also ranked to be the top. Well deserved. The sushi is a bless. I had some very good sushi in Japan before, and I liked the sushi rice of multiple well known big brands in the town and two private owned expensive special Japanese restaurants in the area. When I saw the fish itself on the sushi, I was a bit disappointed becuz the fish selection didn’t meet my expectations. Nevertheless, the overall grading for this s

This resteraunt is consistently amazing. If it was located downtown I’m sure it would be as renowned as blue water cafe and Elisa and I’m sure they’ll get a Michelin star in time as I’ve never had such good service from all their lovely staff. First time around we indulged In the Omakase and it was hands down some of the best food I’ve ever eaten. Second time there we enjoyed some a la cart rolls, tuna tataki, shrimp tempura, chicken karaage as well as the Tojo roll, spicy tuna roll and Pacific Northwest roll. 10/10 recommend for a romantic date night that you won’t feel weighed down from or casual dining on incredible rolls. Will be back many many times thank you Tojo and staff!
