Situé dans l'historique Tramway Building de Denver, The Nickel a ouvert en 1911, il rend hommage à l'espace qui était autrefois utilisé pour collecter les tickets des clients utilisant les tramways : un nickel. Tout comme le bâtiment dans lequel le Nickel est logé a un passé historique, les plats au menu au Nickel ont tous une histoire. We dined at The Nickel prior to an event at the DCPA - our first time dining here. Our experience was mixed. Our server, when compared to others working that evening, had 2 very large tables (6-8 each) plus 4-5 2-tops. Other servers had 3-4 2-tops maximum. While she was very personable, she simply didn't have time for us. We ordered a starter, salad, and main and all were delivered at the same time. The chicken was excellent. The pears in the poached pear salad were great - but the greens overwhelmed them and were not trimmed properly. While the steak tartare could have been minced much more finely, it was incredibly flavorful. Our drinks were outstanding, especially the Aviation. So, our experience was a bit hit-and-miss, but we will give it another shot in the future.

We have been here many times for dinner before going to the theater. It is only a block away from DCPA. We finally decided what they do best is salad and salmon. I recommend you ask for extra dressing on the side. I understand that in the next couple of months, the kitchen is going to be overhauled. There are more expensive restaurants nearby.

As downtown Denver residents, we decided to try The Nickel prior to a theater performance and were so happy we did. The food and wine choices fit our tastes and were not too expensive. Most important, we really liked the atmosphere, quiet enough to have a conversation across the table, all to rare these days. The service was a bit slow but not excessively so and well worth the wait. The hotel itself is elegant in the old style, a style we really enjoy.

This is a great location for theatre-goers. The food was not great - Grilled sandwich only grilled on 1 side, and other hot sandwiches were served on cold toast.

We were late for our reservation as the play went longer than anticipated but they were able to accomodate with no problem. Good food and service

The waiters and front desk people were very friendly but the wait for our food was about 45 min. and it was very expensive for what you got. I will not go there again

Beautiful historic building. Our waitress was kind and efficient. The food was not just underwhelming, the salmon dish was an embarrassment to the establishment. It’s the most expensive item on the menu and it was a tiny, over cooked dry piece of salmon with no sauce or spices with literally 6 pieces of pasta next it. No decoration, no effort. The holding plate was a normal size but with the entree on it, it looked huge because entree was so small. My salad with salmon was the worst I’ve had maybe ever. No dressing - I had to ask, 5 walnuts, a dash of cheese. My salmon was dry and overcooked. The pork dish was underwhelming and tiny. The only thing that was ok was the burger. Very disappointing to take out of town guests here. Very sad

Hotel Teatro needs a revamping. Everything about dining there was average. $167 for two; salads, entree and two lemon drops. Food was sub par. Dine elsewhere.

My wife and I have eaten at the nickel a number of times, before theaters or concerts. This most recent time, we both ordered charcuterie boards. My wife also ordered a salad and I ordered steak tartare. One of the meats in the charcuterie boards was very spicy. Not necessarily a bad thing, but we do not do spicy and there was no choice. The portions were generous, but again, there were no choices, for example, there was a good jam, but no mustard; the pistachios were stale. Some choice of meat and cheese would be an improvement. The stake tartar was disappointing. The portion was generous, it wasn’t particularly tasty. The Manhattan cocktail I ordered was good, but the prices for drinks and food were higher than at comparable places. For pre-DCPA dinners, it is hard to beat Stout Street Social.

I love the atmosphere at the Nickel. The entrees were excellent. The salads disappointing. The Nickel salad is good, great lemon vinegarette. However, they are extremely stingy on the blue cheese, pickled red onion and candied walnuts. Similarly with the beet salad; limited beets and candied pistachios, nonexistent garlic yogurt but tons of frisee loaded with red chile powder.

I ordered the mushroom Napoleon and the Nickel Negroni. The entree was delicious and I'd gladly eat it again. The cocktail was excellent with lovely presentation. Our server was just right, attentive when appropriate.

We arrived on time for our reservation and were seated promptly. We waited 10 minutes for a menu and another 10 minutes for water. We placed our order and noticed that the other patrons around us, who had arrived after us, had already received their drink orders and food. The airline chicken was delicious and the salmon was cooked perfectly. After we had finished eating and only received half of our drink order, we requested the bill and were met with extremely distasteful attitude from our server. Typically we tip well (25-30%), but this was the one occasion where we could not justify more than 10%. We will not be returning in the future.

I have been to The Nickel in the past and had a good experience but this visit it felt like a different restaurant. A $26 charcuterie board with maraschino cherries? No thank you.

The Nicole is a gastronomic joy. They change their menu seasonally so you can never get bored with the menu. From the Colorado Benedict (with green chili hollandaise) to the Salmon Gnocchi (they make their own gnocchi) you will be in for a taste treat! Go, eat, enjoy.😀

I was profoundly disappointed in the experience from the service to the food. We had to get up from the table numerous times to ask for salt/pepper, bread, butter, our drinks (which arrived AFTER the 1st course), utensils… And the food… we both ordered the salmon. Everything was over cooked and underseasoned. I could have handled the poor food, but the service was so unreasonably bad as to put a pall on the whole experience. I would strongly suggest dining at some of the other restaurants in the neighborhood.

Overall good, just not great. Staff were really nice but service was slow. Food was well prepared but a little underwhelming. My salmon was good but not seasoned at all. It came with a whopping 6 gnocchi. Steak was well cooked and had good flavor but was really grisly. The atmosphere was nice, quiet and intimate.

The restaurant only had two servers the night we attended. Although the servers were terrific and working as fast as they could, the service was a bit slow. Food was good but menu limited. Very convenient to the theater across the street. Would go again.

Somewhat cold in the restaurant, which led my husband to put on his winter jacket. Service pretty good, except for seeking whether I wanted more hot water for my tea, which I said I did, but never materialized. The steak was a little tough to cut, but tasted delicious.

Nice restaurant. Has a clean fancy feel to it. Our waiter was polite and attentive. Drinks and food took forever to come out. Reservation was at 5:30, arrived at 5:15 and was seated immediately. Ordered drinks and an appetizer immediately and the drinks took about 15 minutes and the appetizer took 30. Ordered our main dish once we got our apps and the food didn’t come out for another 45 min. Ended up leaving at 7:00pm which can be appropriate when lounging and taking your time ordering food but we ordered things almost immediately and the wait was still super long. Food was good but not worth a one hour wait to eat something lol

The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. Despite that there were a lot of people there it wasn’t loud and still felt intimate. I loved learning about the history of the building too. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable.

Meh. That’s all this was. For a Kevin Taylor restaurant we really expected more. The New York steak was bland and the chicken was super dry with WAY too much spinach stuffed in it. Also had to ask multiple times what the types of meats and cheeses on the charcuterie board was because none of the servers knew.
