Situé dans l'historique Tramway Building de Denver, The Nickel a ouvert en 1911, il rend hommage à l'espace qui était autrefois utilisé pour collecter les tickets des clients utilisant les tramways : un nickel. Tout comme le bâtiment dans lequel le Nickel est logé a un passé historique, les plats au menu au Nickel ont tous une histoire. Dirigé par une équipe distinguée de quatre chefs, le menu intègre des ingrédients de la plus haute qualité provenant des agriculteurs, des éleveurs, des distillateurs et des producteurs artisanaux, et se compose de plats facilement reconnaissables et simples, mais très riches. L’objectif du restaurant est de faire ressentir à tous les clients la chaleur de la familiarité de son cadre, du service amical et professionnel, au flux d'un four à bois, aux arômes réconfortants de la maison sortant de la cuisine. La pièce maîtresse du restaurant, The Barrel Bar, propose des cocktails maison en fut, au robinet.

From beginning to the end of our dining experience was absolutely wonderful! Staff very welcoming and our waitress was on point. Our food was delicious, my daughter said it was the best meal she’s ever had. We had the mushroom napoleon that I highly recommend!

The server “forgot” what her section was for like 15 minutes and didn’t even come over with water when she finally came by, had to go get it after eventually greeting us. It wasn’t very busy at all, and that was a long time for her to say something, my friend was there a few minutes before me and even she hadn’t had anyone come over. Food came out slow and the pea purée was chalky with a subtle pea flavor. It tasted like they used dried peas they rehydrated in plain unseasoned water. The gnocchi was odd shaped and kinda paste-like in texture. There also was no one at the host stand. I’d get it if they were busy but there was maybe 4 tables, so not even 50% capacity. I won’t be back and any suggestions I’ll discourage.

The Nickel has a good variety of menu items to pick from. We went for brunch, and I always enjoy the omelets. The wait staff took good care of us.

The rib burger was very good. Our waiter Ali was super. We all had a great time before the theater

We ate at the Nickel prior to a play at the Denver Center. Good menu selections and we all enjoyed the meals. We were able to talk easily so noise wasn't bad. We'll be back.

We had wonderful and a delightful waitress. She helped make some substitutions that were brilliant and she was so personable.

We dined at The Nickel prior to an event at the DCPA - our first time dining here. Our experience was mixed. Our server, when compared to others working that evening, had 2 very large tables (6-8 each) plus 4-5 2-tops. Other servers had 3-4 2-tops maximum. While she was very personable, she simply didn't have time for us. We ordered a starter, salad, and main and all were delivered at the same time. The chicken was excellent. The pears in the poached pear salad were great - but the greens overwhelmed them and were not trimmed properly. While the steak tartare could have been minced much more finely, it was incredibly flavorful. Our drinks were outstanding, especially the Aviation. So, our experience was a bit hit-and-miss, but we will give it another shot in the future.

We have been here many times for dinner before going to the theater. It is only a block away from DCPA. We finally decided what they do best is salad and salmon. I recommend you ask for extra dressing on the side. I understand that in the next couple of months, the kitchen is going to be overhauled. There are more expensive restaurants nearby.

As downtown Denver residents, we decided to try The Nickel prior to a theater performance and were so happy we did. The food and wine choices fit our tastes and were not too expensive. Most important, we really liked the atmosphere, quiet enough to have a conversation across the table, all to rare these days. The service was a bit slow but not excessively so and well worth the wait. The hotel itself is elegant in the old style, a style we really enjoy.
