Had been trying to get into Gari on 46th St for awhile. It's always booked. Found Columbus location and decided to give it a go. The place is small, but as an early diner, it was fine. Tight tables but food & service made that inconsequential. Smallish menu, but strong in what they offer. Hijiki was excellent as was the avocado & tuna app. Parmesan was a strang pairing with the fried maiitake mushroom s; ponzu would have been better. Sushi was excellent. Will have the uni next time. Did not do "toppings" on sushi, but it did look interesting at the next table. Price wise, not anymore than other joints and definitely worth it for the quality they serve. Service was great, from host to busboys. Great place.

As a sushi enthusiast, I can confidently say that dining at Sushi of Gari is always a special culinary experience. First you are always greeted with a welcoming greeting. The sushi is a work of art, showcasing the freshest ingredients, from the buttery texture of the sashimi to the perfectly seasoned rice of the nigiri, every bite was a perfect combo of flavor and texture. The separate omakase pieces was a true culinary journey. Of course, such a dining experience comes with a price tag to match. And I can say with certainty that every penny was well worth it for the quality and service provided.

Excellent food! New crepe chocolate cake dessert is a wonderful addition to the menu and very delicious. My favorite sushi in Manhattan. Also, they did some improvements to the decor and it looks much nicer.

I have been here many times over the years and was very disappointed with the service . Waitress forgot items we orderred, bus servers tried to clear plates multible times that had food on them. 40 minues in, 15 minutes after food was served we were harassed to the point of being poked in the back by bus boy. Will never go back, really need to look at this new policy . You lost a customer of over 10 years, and other reviews reveal this is systemic.

We really enjoyed our meal (the sushi omakase), but for the price, we felt pretty rushed through everything (our reservation was at 6pm and we were done with our meal by 6:40). We've been to several sushi omakases in the area and it tends to be more of an experience than at Gari, and for a similar price. The food was great but the whole thing felt more like a quick dinner than a fine dining experience, so we will probably not rush back for the price.

This was our first experience with omakase, and the food was excellent, creatively prepared, beautifully presented and very tasty. Service was also excellent. However, we did not expect the restaurant to be so noisy.

The food was great but service was okay. The server was a bit "inflexible" when a table next to us asked for more jalapeno but was told to order an item on the menu like a sushi to get that. We also have an order messed up, so they could have given us that as complementary. It was my birthday occasion but there was NO acknowledgement of that. We also ordered omakase (12 piece sushi) and we were just served the 12 pieces with nothing extra. Felt like omakase was NOT worth it at all.

The meal was terrific. But the bathroom at the end of the meal was a DISASTER. I am disabled and use a motorized wheelchair. The bathroom lacked the proper handles and grips on the walls. So I could not use the toilet. This disaster is enough to keep me from this restaurant again.

The omakase at Gari is consistently good however the prices are a little exorbitant for what you actually get. Also, my daughter asked for a little extra ginger to take home and they charged us $4.00. Not a lot but after spending almost $1000 for dinner for four you would think they would’ve just thrown that in.

Definitely one of the most expensive sushi restaurants I’ve been to, even for some standard selections, but i was forewarned and the quality is excellent, service friendly/caring if a bit imperfect. Host at door could be warmer, some would say less reflexively judgy. But overall a beautiful meal and will return.

We absolutely love coming here for maki rolls and appetizers. The service is always spot-on and timely, and the servers and runners are very nice. The spicy hotate (scallop) is a must-order. The crowd skews older and noisy, which is exacerbated by the close-together seating, but otherwise always a pleasant experience at this location.

Service was efficient and thoughtful. The server seemed to actually care about our satisfaction, rather than responding artificially or mechanically. Some of the food was outstanding and some was good but not outstanding. It's in my neighborhood, so I'll continue going to the restaurant but I wouldn't travel to get there.

They are known for their Salmon Sushi topped with warm tomato and it's delicious but everything has a special touch without overwhelming the very fresh fish used...and they are all so nice! Sit at the counter and talk to your Sushi Chef!

Delicious sushi that is always fresh, creatively presented, and like no other sushi I have had in NYC! It is a fine dining atmosphere so always feels special, the servers are kind and helpful. Order the Gari Special!

Service and food were exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted pleasantly and service throughout was wonderful

The sushi was as good as the best in Tokyo which I have had many times. The dumplings are marvelous. A wonderful restaurant.
