Priding ourselves on our motto ‘Famous for fish’ Smiths Restaurants is a name that has become synonymous with fine dining and quality, attentive service. Our restaurants are located in Ongar Essex (just off the A414) and Wapping in central London (near Tower Bridge). Both restaurants boast an extensive menu of fresh fish that we offer to cook in a variety of ways to suit every palette. We also offer locally sourced meat dishes to accommodate those who prefer their food terra firma. To compliment the quality of our food we have worked closely with well renowned independent wine merchants to ensure we have a selection of wines that are the perfect accompaniment to every meal. The only problem you may have a Smith’s is being spoilt for choice.

We had a wonderful meal at Smiths last night. The staff were lovely and gave recommendations, which were gratefully received. I totally recommend the risotto started, just delicious. Highly recommend and can't waiting to return.

Happy with everything except the disabled facilities. I took my friend who is now in a wheelchair due to having MND. The lack of a disabled toilet made things very difficult for him. I had great trouble getting him into the gents toilet cubicle with space so limited. I am astounded that in this day and age Smiths don’t have disabled toilet facilities!

I took my parents to celebrate my dad's 70th birthday. It was a really lovely atmosphere, food was delicious and staff were very friendly and attentive. We had the lunch menu, which included vegan and gluten free options. I would definitely highly recommend.

We had a lovely evening at Smiths, from the minute you walk through the door all the staff were friendly and welcoming. All our food was delicious, garlic & chilli prawn starter, garlic butter lobster especially good. Lovely ambiance in restaurant perfect for dates and special occasions. Can’t wait to go back.

The food is always amazing at Smiths. We’ve never had a bad meal. Normally, the staff go above and beyond for us. However, on this occasion, we found one particular member of staff to be a little unfriendly and lacking warmth. We asked about the medium and medium rare steak and explained how we’d like the steak and she replied ‘you have to pick one of them because I have to note it down here’ without actually offering any advice on which would suit one guest more. For such a lovely meal, it was just a shame that this one particular member of staff acted like it was a chore. The rest of the staff were amazing as usual and the maitre d was fantastic. The food was superb too. Thank you!

Been coming here for 20 years. It’s impossible to have a bad meal. It’s not a cheap option but the 2 and 3 course set menus have loads of options and are excellent value for the quality, which is honestly superb every single time. It’s classic, not trendy or avant garde, but it’s classy, always buzzy and friendly.

Best thing about Smiths is the consistent foods standards although they seem to have cut out the chop with the coffee. Now it's just coffee and no chops? Bad move - as it lets down what was a brilliant meal.

Very good and extensive menu and food was of a high quality, beautifully served. The staff were very professional and friendly and lots of them. We all enjoyed the variety of food and couldn't fault the meal and the ambience. Have always liked Smiths for a special occassion.

My wife and I went to Smiths to celebrate her Birthday, this is not our first time and of course expectations were already set based on previous experience and we were not let down, The Fillet Steak was excellent accompanied by a selection of vegetables and dauphine potatoes as was the Sea Bass, the wine choice, South African, went down so well! Again as always the service was friendly and attentive. My wife was treated to a "Happy Birthday" ice cream with candle. I think that the quality and service justified the cost, no complaints there at all!

Fairly attentive staff, great food, although my husband was served the incorrect main meal, no acknowledgement of his birthday even though I mentioned it every time the waiter came over. But we had a lovely time, as always!

Food was excellent, fresh and plentiful, shame you close in the middle of the day otherwise it would be a great place for a stop over from Stansted airport mid afternoon between 4.30 - 6.00. Please open all day, I’m sure you’ll fill the restaurant.

Absolutely blown away by our experience at Smiths yesterday. The food was divine, the staff were fantastic and the atmosphere was amazing! Worth every single penny and more. Special mention to Susan who was 100% spot on with her recommendations. Will definitely be back.

Smiths Ongar , as always, delivered . It’s a pleasure to visit for an excellent meal with super service. For lunch or dinner it is definitely the best restaurant in the area.
