In a funny way, the food came too fast, which was unsurprising once I tasted it. My caesar salad was poor--nothing about it was right or had flavor. And our wood-burning oven pizza was limp. That was hard to fathom. Another person had a salad that was more diner style than anything. For some years now Serafina was always a pleasure but at this particular location the food was simply not worth the price, or even at half the price. We all thought the service was good, so it is a pity to see that the food has become an afterthought.

Although some of the dishes are quite good (e.g. the kale salad, and the branzino with cherry tomatoes—according to my dinner companion), others are merely good. The dessert menu has a choice (the one I ordered) which is confusing, as it is listed as "GELATO & SORBETTI Chocolate, vanilla, lemon or mixed berries," with the title saying "&" i.e. "AND [sorbet of mixed berries]", whereas the details says "or". I expected the berries with my scoops of vanilla & chocolate, but was confused when they were absent! My companion's choice of "AFFOGATO AL CAFFE'," described as "Vanilla ice cream topped with espresso" was not what she received, which was a cold cup of espresso with some cream in it! We refused it and ordered something else. Service is highly variable, as it was quite good the first time we visited the place on January 27th of this year (without reservation at 4pm), but was quite poor this time (since our reservation was for 5pm, the place was more busy than our former visit): the waiter (Carlos L.) took our order which included 2 kale salads to be brought at the same time as the two main dishes ("Branzino Cherry Tomatoes", and "Ravioli alla Salvia"). When the dishes arrived there was only one salad (we asked for the other which took some time to come of course). He also insisted that the dessert of "Affogato" ordered for my companion (see above) was correct and it took a while to have him take it back and exchange it for another of my dessert, which this time came with some berries! As for the prices I felt that some of the item were somewhat stiff, and that this latest visit with Serafina 79 was not quite worth the $200 plus paid (including taxes and 15% tip—which may have been generous on my part).

The Mad and 79th St location of Serafina is in desperate need of a makeover. I took a friend there yesterday, knowing Serafina food was delicious, but having never been to this particular location. I was embarrassed, to the point that I felt the need to apologize for bringing her there. My main complaint was that it looked filthy and worn. The sunny yellow banquettes were a dirty grey color. I mean, really slimy. Like I wanted to ask for a plastic bag to place on the seat. The kitchen/workspace area was in clear view of the diners, and it was not a pretty sight. And the overwhelming smell was one of disinfectant, as in public bathroom disinfectant. Other locations are nice and clean. Some are even actually updated and stylish. This one should be avoided at all costs until they spend the money to make it attractive. I’m still mortified that I chose to bring a friend THERE for what was supposed to be an enjoyable lunch. It was anything but. The food, as always, was great.

Downstairs area is beautiful, we were placed upstairs. Service could have been better. They brought plates but I had to remind yo have fork & knife. Too busy staff.

I was looking for a place to eat before an event at the Met so we decided this should be a good bet. The food was bland, must be because the average age is 70+. I have been to other Serafina locations and the food & Experience was much better. Wont be back to this location again.

When you have a reservation and led all the way to the top where you feel like you are in a cafeteria vs if you walk in and wit you sit in the room with table cloths and comfortable chairs. Would not repeat. Service was mediocre and the food was blah.

We had such a lovely little date night here, both had the pizza and it was absolutely delicious! The ambience with the high ceilings, windows, greenery and candlelight on the top floor was just perfect, and not too stuffy given the Madison Ave location. Will plan to come back again soon!

This restaurant is very convenient on UES. The food is normal with decent prices on Madison Avenue. They have a good quality of wine by glass compared to some restaurants that pretend to be upscale and serve cheap wine with a high price tag.

Brought a group of students learning about Italian Art and Culture after exploring the Lehman Collection at the Met and the food and service/ambiance all excellent. One commented on how delicious the cacio e Pepe is compared to the one they learned to make the week prior, same for carbonara. Fun to try things they know how to make in a vibrant Upper East Side original Serafina- the vibe is very authentic, as if in Italy, even the bread was low salt like Tuscany. Molto Bene, Grazie!

We were visiting NYC from CA during winter break and wanted an Italian food experience worthy of New York-style Italian food. Seraphina did not disappoint. It was amazing. We sat on their first floor, which is actually upstairs, in a cozy little room with only about ten tables, all positioned to take advantage of the large picture windows overlooking Madison Ave. We started with a caesar salad and the prosciutto and burrata plate, both delicious. My husband had the Ravioli al Tartufo Nero, and I ordered the filet. The sauce on the ravioli was so good I was dipping my steak in it. We were with our two teen daughters, and they each ordered the gnocchi di mamma and cleared their plates. The servers and all the staff were fantastic. This was the perfect Italian night out for us.

The food was terrific, and the prices reasonable. We love this location of Serafina. The only thing that keeps us from noting this restaurant--and location--as outstanding is that both our servers never cracked a smile. The only man who smiled warmly to us was the gentleman who placed our plates on the table. Both of the other men always had stern expressions. Is this a new thing? I like to feel that my presence was welcomed warmly and I did not. Neither did the other two people in my party.

The waitress recommended we share a pizza and salad. It was the perfect portion for two. The salad was outstanding, dressed perfectly, and the pizza was equally yummy. We split a scoop of lemon sorbet for dessert and it was so light and tangy. One of our favorite eatery’s to visit when in the city.

Wish we sat on 2nd floor and not 3rd, cold temperature and decorative. Waitress was good, but had a heavy accent and couldn’t understand her. But, everything was lovely.

Avocado San Pietro salad was literally inedible. Drowning in some sort of creamy sauce. Possibly the wrong sauce when I look it up? Kids pizza was also inedible. Cheese barely melted…it’s supposed to specifically be a pizza place. Thought it would be safe to pick a Serafina for lunch but this was disgusting and disappointing.
