C'est en 1966 que l'histoire du restaurant Sammy's Fishbox a débuté. Ils sont passés de petit casse-croûte de 26 places à un grand restaurant de 500 places préparant plus d'un million de plats annuellement. La croissance a été phénoménale et très gratifiante pour le personnel du Sammy's Fishbox. Depuis le début, ils croient que certaines choses sont aussi vraies aujourd'hui qu'elles l'étaient dans le passé : la qualité attire les clients et c'est là toute la valeur du restaurant. La formule est très simple : le Sammy's Fishbox sert de la nourriture de qualité préparée fraîchement tous les jours, d'une manière irréprochable, tout en servant de généreuses portions à prix abordables.

Sammy's is much bigger than it appears on the outside. The inside is a rabbit warren of dining rooms and there is an upstairs dining area as well. The decor is kitschy, but fits with the casual vibe. The noise level is high; many people are celebrating special occasions and every 10 minutes the crew is singing happy birthday to one of the diners. The service is attentive, but you do get the feeling that they'd like you to hurry up and finish eating. The food selection appears vast, but it is actually pretty basic: shrimp, scallops, calamari, flounder, salmon, lobster, crab, and snapper, prepared in many different ways and combos. To me the menu is pricey, but it's because the portions are so overwhelming. Even the beverages are large. The regular portion that they serve is enough for 3 people. Getting your leftovers to go is so ubiquitous that seemingly everyone leaves with a giant, proprietary shopping bag big enough to hold pounds of food. My companions and I have had the fried seafood platter (everything was cooked to perfection), the Peri Peri shrimp (large succulent shrimp with a fiery sauce), and the crab cakes (big lumps of crab held together with a minimum of binder). I wish Sammy's offered the option of smaller portions for a reduced price.

We traveled over an hour to come here. It was not worth it. The “authentic” fish and chips wasn’t served with vinegar and was random fish strips with soggy French fries. Another waiter said the only thing he would order here was the bang bang shrimp. That was fair. But also we had to speak to another waiter because ours disappeared for 34 minutes after saying he would be right back when we were ready to order.

Servers were polite. Food came quickly even though it was a holiday. My food was ok, I liked the freshness of the seafood but the taste didn’t wow me. Needed a bit more flavor.

It’s nice to know some things remain the same. My first meal at this restaurant was about 25 years ago. Until last evening I have not eaten ate Sammy’s in 20 years due to relocation. The quality of the food and portions hasn’t changed. Still outstanding at every level!!

As always, Sammy’s Fish Box was amazing! The only place I feel like I get my money’s worth. The staffs are always on point. I’m always getting the best waiters in the house. They’re always and very hospitable. Sammy’s Fish Box will always be my favorite place to dine. Moviet Bellamy

It was my first time and we enjoyed dinner. Food was amazing and we brought so much home for the next day. A lot of traffic getting there but none on the way back to CT. Will definitely be back for takeout and to try other restaurants along the strip

I don’t like giving bad reviews but I’d have to let you know so that you can maybe improve. when I went to eat at the restaurant about five years ago, the food was so delicious and tasty. I haven’t gone since so I chose to go there this time again for my birthday. However, food was not tasty at all. It was very bland. My fish tasted like it was made with fish batter that had no seasoning or salt. I had two big pieces of fish with no taste at all. My family said their food was the same, no taste , my daughters salmon had a bunch of garlic on it and it just taste it like garlic and that catfish with the peach chutney it had very little of the peach chutney you couldn’t even taste it. Other than that the service was good ambience was nice and the sides and starters were good.

I was actually really surprised. I thought Sammy's was a great spot, but that an over exaggeration. Our waiter paid us no mind, we had to keep calling for his attention. The fried snapper had absolutely no seasoning, it tasted like they took the fish out from the sea and dropped it directing into the frying pan. The waiter dropped my beverage (which I barely even drank out of) while he was attempting to place all the dishes on the table, he didn't even offer to get me another one. My husband ordered Lobster and steak, the steak tasted like liver and the lobster was over cooked, tasted like rubber. Lastly I know it was a Saturday night, so i really cant blame them for the noise, but they way they have the tables set up, it is extremely cramped in the restaurant. For the price tag of my dinner, it wasn't worth it all!!! Safe to say I will not be returning to Sammy's Fish Box.

Haven't been to City Island in years and this was the place my husband always liked to go to. YOu read so many bad reviews about City Island Restaurants didn't know what to expect. We were satisfied and even pleasantly surprised. The wood-roasted Chilean Sea Bass was excellent as was the branzino. Unfortunately, the blue fish filet had way too many bones. The New England clam chowder was on point. The extras such as giardiniera and cornbread are a great touch.

The food is delicious but extremely overpriced. It's gotten worse over the years. For myself and 2 girls it was over $200 with tip. Our server was great but the hostess had an attitude and first seated us in a secluded section where everyone can see us eating as they walk into the door. It was very uncomfortable. We then had to wait to be acknowledged to be moved to a different table. Food is great, price isn't.

Mixed review. Service was good not great. I made a few requests our waiter didn’t seem to fully understand. He had on a mask and English wasn’t his native language. He was pleasant and attentive. My husband loved his meal and it was a good size portion of lobster, crab, shrimp and plenty of rice. Bread and corn bread were both good. I even liked the pickled veggies. Salad was basic but good. I ordered swordfish. When it came I questioned if it was right. Looked nothing like swordfish. It seemed to have a light breading but I ordered broiled. Nothing else was on the dish and it looked sad. The taste was terrible. Worst ever. I expressed this to the waiter and he made no attempt to rectify it. It was not edible. And sat uneaten except for 2 bites. $40 btw. It was supposed to come with vegetables. I had to ask and was given corn, which was fine but not my idea of a healthy veg. I mentioned we were celebrating my husband’s birthday and they brought us a nice piece of carrots cake. I thought how nice. Comped us Dessert for the terrible fish. Nope….we were charged for it. Something’s were good but overall 3/10. Would not recommend.

Sammy's never disappoints! Absolutely enjoyed every moment of celebrating my birthday at Sammy's. Food was absolutely fresh and delicious and service was impeccable. I cannot wait to return with family and friends to enjoy Sammy's fantastic dishes, drinks and desserts.
