I had dinner tonight for my mother's birthday and it was also Mother's Day. The server did not acknowledge the birthday, even though I had confirmed this with the hostess and online. The waiter was not attentive throughout our evening and they had run out of the dessert options of the set menu we had to order off of. The service was bad and for the price, not worth a visit. I would not recommend .

VERY disappointed. Would rate this place 0 out of 5 if i could. Had a reservation for 5:45pm on mothers day. Arrived and checked in by 5:40pm. Host was incredibly unprofessional and rude. Wasn’t seated until 6:30pm. Ridiculous for a reservation. Was seated, a server hadn’t checked up on us/taken our order until 6:50pm. Ordered & waited about 30 minutes just for the first course alone. When finished, wait about good 40 minutes for our entrees to come. Lastly, it took about 20 minutes for our dessert, which was just a regular scoop of ice cream to come. My question is, if you know its mother’s day, why only have ONE server serving more than 10+ tables alone? Three course meals range between $85-$100+, why did it take close to two hours just to wait for our food? Very disappointed, service is terrible, don’t waste your time here.

Although we had a reservation, we had to wait for an additional hour to be sat. Once we got sat, we were told we could only choose from the Mother’s Day menu and not the regular menu, which was not stated online. Food was good, but struggled to get attention from the staff for things like utensils, napkins, etc.

The food took a very long time to arrive. We were there 3 hours for a party of 2 and the special Mother’s Day menu. I thought a limited menu was designed to expedite food on a crowded day. That wasn’t experience. Our server kept checking on us and letting us know the kitchen was backed up. When the entrees finally arrived, my friend got the wrong meal. I’ve eaten many holiday meals at Roy’s but I’ll be rethinking that for the future. The food was okay, not spectacular like I’ve come to expect.

We celebrated Mother’s Day here. I wanted something near the water, and we enjoyed Roy’s when we visited Hawaii a few years ago. Of course the house was packed. We were seated within 15 minutes of our reservation time. However, we sat there around 20 minutes without a waiter/waitress coming by. Finally, Kristen came by and asked had we been helped. She said she would find our waitress. Because that waitress was extremely busy she said she would take care of us. Well she did just that. Not to mention the Mother’s Day Brunch was fabulous. Thanks to Kristen for providing excellent service and made my Mother’s Day even more special!!

Excellent food but I would only recommend for a non-holiday occasion. The staff was overwhelmed for Mother's Day and the food took forever to arrive. We were seated at 130 pm and food arrived at the table for the adults at 317 pm. They also only have a special occasion menu that was ridiculously priced. I normally do not eat an appetizer and dessert which were included in the pricing. The waitress was great but looked overwhelmed and aware of how long the food was taking. She was proactive and pushed the kitchen for the kid's meals, which we appreciated. The place was packed and loud, but once again, it was Mother's Day. The table next to us even asked us how long the food took as they looked like they ran out of conversational topics and seemed bored waiting. My mom enjoyed it but had the same issues I had.

Delicious food, great server, and a nice location. Although the hostess position needs improvement, unfortunately we did not have a pleasant experience with the young hostess Ben with the glasses.

Perhaps the least well organized kitchen in the county. Everyone knew Sunday was gonna be a big day and these guys couldn’t handle it. Great ambience terrible serving staff have terrible food. Make sure you’ve got four hours before you sit down.

Food was very good but a bit pricey. I had thought they would have a complimentary glass of sparkling wine for mothers, but all drinks were extra. We requested to sit outdoors but were seated in a row of tables along a back wall where nobody had a waterfront view.

Lunch time graduation celebration at our family’s favorite place was fantastic! They were able to provide us with 2 chocolate souffles even though they do not offer them at lunch. Food is always great and love the location by the water. We always enjoy our time at Roy’s!

Our server was incredible, and you could tell he really cared about our experience, but the food and drinks took a very long time, my food was barely warm when it finally arrived and our overall experience was impacted.

The service was fantastic! In particular, the waitress was outstanding. She made great recommendations, had a positive demeanor, delightful energy and enthusiastic as she was assisting us with the menu. I appreciated her professionalism. Dinner was very delicious! Kudos to all!

For the price you pay, the experience does not live up to expectations. The name and location is what you are paying for. The food is overpriced for what you get. Presentation was lacking when it comes to the food. The sauces and meat juices just bleed all over the plates. The right plate goes a long way for presentation, otherwise it just looks like the steaks were not rested long enough. The crispy appetizers were not crispy when you place the items on top of sauce. Maybe I should have requested sauce on the side instead. Our server never really checked on us after our appetizers. I understand it gets busy and its a Saturday night, but we just felt forgotten. The servers that we did ask for help seemed annoyed. We asked for basic things like steak knives which we ended up getting towards the end of our meal after using our butter knives to cut our steaks. We wanted to get dessert but ended up passing because we were turned off by the overall experience. The Marina Kitchen Restaurant and Bar at the Marriott Marquis next door is MUCH better. Better food, service and experience.

They do not know how to alter recipes for heart healthy low salt diets. Perhaps our server was not familiar with how to communicate to the chef or they are rigid.

Arrived early for 5:30 reservation. Checked in with the hostess and was told we’d be seated on time. 5:30 came & went so we went and asked about our table again…she took us to our table where we sat for 30 minutes without as much as water…finally stopped another waiter and asked for help. Finally a waiter (Gabriel) came hustling out…told us how busy he was…blah blah blah!!! One salad out…20+minutes…again had to ask about the other salad…I asked to speak to the manager and he (manager) came to our table. As I’m asking him what is the issue?? And expressing our frustration, Gabriel the waiter appears and starts arguing he’s been working there for 9 years…and making excuses for his poor service…in front of us!! The manager did comp our corkage fee…however, that doesn’t change our overall experience at Roy’s. We have eaten there before and had a much better experience. I would think twice about another $300 dinner there to be treated like diner!

The food was quite good. Everything else was a disaster. Took 20 minutes to check in, then the wine arrived after FORTY-FIVE minutes. Questions were uniformly passed on to someone else--who of course was busy doing something else. Way overstaffed with each person having only one small job--a recipe for disaster. And it was.

Tonight was sad. It started with the two hostesses that are not the face of any business that I would own. No smile, no welcome, no enthusiasm, blah blah blah. Reservation meant nothing. The lack of organization at the front end of the restaurant was horrible.. check in and wait. Then when it is your turn they come and whisper your name and don't look for you. Moving on, next. What a poor initial feeling. Dinner was OK. Not excellent, but ok. To see the general manager running through the restaurant with a waiter at his side was comical. He was behind from the start. What a poor excuse for a supposedly high-end restaurant. Roy's, not me again. Been there, done that. $265 for two, uh no. I'll go where my dollars are appreciated. Happy life Roy's.

Roy's would always be one of the places I would always make a point of visiting whenever in San Diego. Latest visit was a definate disapointment. Food was wonderful but service was more what you would exect from a place focused mainly on tourists rather than repeat customers. Very sad to see Roy's make a decision to go in this direction. I will not be returning.

At check-in for reservation, person checked us in and said we would be seated in a minute, 3-4 minutes later asked if we were checked in again 3-4 minutes later and asked us again if were checked in. after 2-3 minutes, took us to our table. Waiter arrived within about 2 minutes, gave us menus, we immediately ordered a cocktail and he immediately asked to take our dinner order - DUH. we said we would order after having looked at the menu and receiving our cocktails. He disappeared for a full 15 minutes - nowhere in sight. Finally he cocktails arrived - not what we ordered but did not want go through the wait again. We though about walking out but decided to give the food a chance and placed our orders --- some 25-minutes later the food arrived - Food reasonably good - wine choices very limited and not that good. Waiter brought our bill and disappeared again. I reviewed the bill and placed my credit card for processing - waited. No sign of the waiter for more than 15 minutes. Finally flagged down another waiter who said they would locate him - no luck---- she then came and took the bill - about 10 minutes later here comes our waiter with my card and bill to complete be signed - tossed it on the table and hurried off. Left 10% tip instead my desire to leave "0". One of the worst service in a restaurant ever!

Everything was great. Service was a little slow but they were busy. My only real frustration is that I made a reservation and upon arrival I was told I hadn’t selected indoor or outdoor so they offered us to sit outside immediately or wait for a table inside. Since the weather was bad we had a little wait. The frustrating part is that Open Table let me make a reservation without selecting inside or outside.

We were in town for the Billy Joel concert and stayed at the Marquis, and have dined here before. We made the reservation with plenty of time to allow for travel to the venue. From the beginning, everything was off. We were seated 15 minutes late, and our server was behind but kind. It went downhill from there. The kitchen apparently lost our order. My salad took 20 minutes to arrive, and then we waited another 30 minutes for the entrees. My steak was not even close to being cooked the way I wanted it, but I could not ask for a replacement due to time constraints. Management never came over to apologize; they simply took $20 off the bill. Overall, we were very disappointed with the entire evening.

The food was excellent: the appetizer canoe, the poke, the scallops were all above my expectations. The service was slow, I think the waiter was stretched too thin. It was early on a Saturday but the restaurant was crowded and noisy. I will be back: the food is too good not to return.

Beautiful restaurant on the water, facing the Marina - a great view over the marina with seating outside and inside. This would be a great restaurant to take your out of town family and friends. It offers water front views, good food and drinks, and a beautiful ambiance. Plus, you have the waterfront walking path to enjoy. We opted for an outside table with a heater and we were not disappointed. Our server Gilbert, was fabulous, helping us with menu recommendations and checked back with us at appropriate intervals. The food presentation was on point and the drinks were well balanced. I had the mahi mahi daily special and my spouse had the seafood sampler (name escapes me right now) and both were cooked to perfection and good. The manager came around to check in with us and the staff were friendly and polite. We were attending a concert at Rady Shell and the restaurant is a short walk to the venue. We highly recommend Roy’s and will certainly be back.

Highly recommend the lobster bisque…the spring rolls and the calamari apps… Chilean sea bass outstanding… Sit outside at sunset for a wonderful experience

For $30 a dish, lunch was poor. Plating was very poor, no elegance whatsoever. My poke was drenched in mayo. The arugula in peach salad was severely wilted as if several days old. Chicken looked dry, overcooked. The karaage dish looks less appealing than Panda Express. I requested a quiet table, and we were put in a corner in front of the kitchen, with constant clanking. The ambience was nice.

We love the Original Roys! This place is shameful. The Brunch selection for Easter was terrible.The options were so limited. The loco moco should have been more authentic. No gravy and some duck liver in the rice or something like that and tomato. You can’t call that loco moco!.The crab eggs Benedict didn’t have hollandaise sauce. Service was slow. I’m sure they are short staffed.

We have been dining at Roy's since 2004, and we dine there as often as we can. (We miss the La Jolla Colony location.) We can't say enough about our server, Zack. He was a joy to deal with: very attentive, continually asking if we were pleased with our courses, and we will ask for him again. The food, as always, was exceptional. Roy's is our go-to restaurant for birthdays and anniversaries. The view of the Marina is great and the sunsets are always fabulous.
