It took forever to get a server and the food had no seasonings on it. Not even salt. Maybe the worst food in downtown San Diego and that’s no exaggeration at all.

After all the hike, an amazing write ups we had high expectations for a visit, sadly they were not achieved. The food was good, but not great, it was made the meal even less was the service that we did not “receive. You next to a table with three women in their 30’s to 40’s and dressed to the nines, all very beautiful, but clearly this created a distraction for our server as he spent 90% of his time checking in on them and 10% on us. Additionally, we a salad, entrée and a side and expected the salad would be served first but instead all three items were brought simultaneously. This made for a very rushed meal and even though we tried to eat all three together the entire and side dish got cold. We will not be going back.

The meals were fantastic, the scenery was nice, however the seating was a little uncomfortable as the tables felt too high for the chairs.

When visiting restaurants like this I am expecting outstanding service. The atmosphere was excellent, loved the decor. The food over all was good. The side dish was a little cold but had good flavor. The service was very poor in my opinion. The server came and introduced himself very nicely but after that he disappeared for long periods of time resulting in us having to flag down other servers to get anything. Three groups that arrived after us was served before us. They switched servers on us and the second one was less interactive than the first. At the end, I asked for the check and it had items that we did not order on it. Server seemed upset and asked me several times if I was sure when I requested they be removed. "YES, I'm sure I know what we ate and drank." He corrected it but then provided me with the wrong receipt when I asked for it. I am recommending the location because a restaurant should be judged by one bad experience with two individuals. So we will try Zama again.

Had a great time. Friendly staff, someone always checking on us, ambience was nice, fun electric music. Only cons were the silverware could have been a bit cleaner/polished and the table numbers need to be sorted better because we had 3 different dishes brought to us that we didn't order. Music was a bit too loud at some point that we had to yell to hear the waiter

Went ti Zama on a "going away" date. I previously requested for a little special something to be brought out after our meal. I unfortunately had to remind them and it still didn't come out We ended up just walking out paying the bill. That was a huge bummer. We ordered the bison burger, dissappointed in the burger only. Fries were really good. The meat was juicey but not seasoned at all. The toppings in the burger was similar to a philly cheesesteak. Odd. Lamb lollipops were very good and the ceviche. The Caesar salad was no reason to be 12 dollars a plate. The jalepeno on the salad makes no sense literally 3 slices of raw jalepeno and 1 cruton on the top of the salad. We got the pink sushi roll. The server didnt even give us chopsticka or soy sauce. The roll iteself is beautiful but bland. I say try the spot! Hit or miss for sure.

Great fusion between Asian and Latin American cuisine. We had the calamari, the super green salad and the crispy maki. The portion sizes were perfect (enough to share as a light meal) and we ate every last bite. The cocktails were also really flavourful, and the staff were welcoming and attentive.

I gave this spot a second chance. I really wanted to love this spot. It gives off Tulum vibes. My best friend flew in from Louisiana. We went out to celebrate her birthday. It took 15 minutes for a waiter to come take our drink order. We were seated for 25 minutes before receiving our first drink. I told the waiter I drink vodka, gin, & scotch, but don't like sweet drinks. He then proceeded to recommend a mezcal drink. I went with the gin cocktail. It was SUPER sweet. We had an appetizer and two sushi rolls. They were good. Not great. I went to the front to remind the hostess it was my friend's birthday, which I noted in OpenTable. She later comes to the table saying she couldn't understand me. I didn't want my friend to know so I shrugged it off. I later went to the restroom, and she was there. I told her in there, but since I didn't know the waiter's name (why couldn't she just look to see based on where we were sitting? That's her job) she couldn't help. I tracked down the waiter to let him know. An hour in a half later we finished & were ready to go. We waited 25 minutes after finishing the meal. No birthday dessert came. I brought my bill to the manager to close out since we were just DONE at this point. Come to find out the manager was the owner. All he did was apologize. I said I was leaving a review. He told me no need to do that & that he was appreciative of the advice. He said they had a new staff and a new menu yet the menu looked the exact same from my visit in May 2023 and the service had only gotten worse. His apology didn't make up for the horrible dining experience. With that being said, don't come here. The vibe is cool, but the service is HORRIBLE, and there's much better drinks, sushi, and steak (their steak is a meatloaf steak with gravy) at other spots with much better service.

My seared tuna was the worst I’ve ever had. My wife’s short ribs were cold. Waiter seemed nice guy but could not care less that our food took an hour to come out in a half full restaurant. The Calamari was horrible. Honestly the worst meal experience I’ve had at that price point. Would never recommend or go back. I don’t like writing reviews but that bad experience is worth complaining about.

The oysters were not fresh. The glasses of water held on to the sanitizer smell making the bottled water awful. Cocktails were warm. Service was pleasant but slow. The steak was meh. Plastic plates and the little fruit flies were annoying.

Ridiculously loud pounding music. If you want to be able to have a conversation with your dining partners, go somewhere else. We were a party of 8 and it was impossible to hear anyone at our table or our waiter. He couldn't hear us either so we had to point to everything we wanted to order on the menu. To their credit, the food was good. But way too loud to enjoy our group dinner. Not going back. Not recommended.

I recently dined at Zama and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. Despite having a reservation, my party and I were seated about 25 minutes late. From the moment we walked in, it was evident the service was lacking. To add to the disappointment, salads arrived with very minimal dressing and we had to request for more, which didn’t come until after we were finished with the salads… sushi also arrived without soy sauce. Another letdown came with my filet, which was served very undercooked. After requesting it to be cooked longer (without having to replace it), the second attempt was no better. By the time the third try was completed, everyone else at my table had finished their meals so I had no choice but to ask them to box it up, so I was left without dinner. Definitely not a nice dining experience, and especially when pregnant. While the location and decor of the restaurant are appealing, with a funner vibe to the atmosphere, the lack of attention to detail and poor service greatly overshadowed these positives. Hoping Zama significantly improves their service standards to ensure meals are prepared correctly and served promptly with the correct condiments because as many people would agree, it’s disappointing to leave a dining experience feeling hungry and unsatisfied.

I booked for a birthday dinner, I really liked the ambiance that I saw in photos. The menu looked good. I really enjoyed their speciality cocktails, they were amazing. I loved the ambience, it had a Miami feel. The fire dance was so fun to watch! I was quite disappointed in the food. We ordered 40oz tomahawk for the table, I was excited for it but unfortunately it came out overcooked and super charred. It was really hard to chew and eat because of the char. We also ordered truffle fries, they were undercooked and limped, the scallops dish was ok, the risotto was on the sweeter side. I do not remember the sushi roll we got, it was deep fried that was ok, Brussels sprouts were ok. The Mexican corn was actually amazing. The crab tartar I enjoyed, the ceviche was good but I didn’t get why they only give you one chip did not make sense. Fried calamari was well seasoned but we can get that anywhere and we got a salad that had walnuts in it which was over salty. I usually would let service know if I do not like the food but the restaurant was so busy and lots of bdays going on and we didn’t have time to stay for them to remake our food. I was disappointed by the food but everything was great.

This is a cute place and their menu was eye-catching too. Had a 6:30 rez on a Saturday evening and was sat right away. However that’s where the good service ended. Took about 20 minutes to get my glass of wine, after reminding server. Then I was told “no substitutions on a Saturday night” in response to me informing server I was allergic to a side on the entree, asking for a substitute. Along this same line, after we closed out our bill 70 minutes after our rez, the server said to us “ we have over 300 reservations tonight so we’re going to need this table soon.” I’ve never been talked to so rudely by a server. I wonder how long OpenTable blocks their reservations for, as I’m sure it’s not anything less than 90 minutes. Anyway, this place is for the cute and hip, so if that’s you, and you need it for your instagram posts, go for it. I definitely won’t be returning. Cheers!

Waited two hours and a half for food. Waiter came by a handful of times 3-4 times max. Both tables eating next to us were served and checked out by the time we got an appetizer. We were still expected to pay full price too. Other waiter serving two tables by us was very helpful and was apologetic of the situation.

Showed up 5 mins before our reservation, hostess told us 5 mins. We waited 10 mins outside while she sat a number of other. She apologized and found us a seat at the bar to wait until our table is ready. We watched her sit about 7 other couples, including those without reservations. We never got a table so I can’t say how good the food is, but the bartenders and drinks were great. After about 45 of waiting, we ended up leaving to have dinner somewhere else.

Even though we had a reservation we had to wait for a table. And couldn’t get a table inside because we wouldve had to wait 15-20 mins additional of the time we had already been waiting. The service was slow bit they did treat us well. The food was over priced for the quality. This was my first time attending so I don’t know if it was just the Valentines Day rush or if it is always like that. If we return I hope to have a better experience.

I wanted to bring my GF to a nice night out for Valentine’s Day and I was able to get a reservation at 6:00 at Zama, we got right in when we arrived and were seated quickly inside, the vibe and athletics are very nice. We had a great server and I would drop his name but was never given it. He recommended some items to which we took the recommendations and got the pearls, wagu tartar and caviar bump to start. The pearls had no real flavor and the caviar bumps were probably the best out of the threee. The wagu tartar was honestly not good at all also the pieces of bread it came with were stale and then toasted, you could taste the stale. We then got the Barada salad and the Ahi tuna, the Barbara salad could have been tossed in some type of dressing but you couldn’t taste it and the ahi tuna was the crown jewel of the meal as it was good but not great. We had 2 glasses of wine and I needed up getting a dirty martini as the glass of wine I got was a bad poor and for $18 expected a bit more than 3 sips but tried a martini which wasn’t bad but for $300 including tip felt as this wasn’t worth the hype. I expected better for the money and everything felt very rushed.

Such an energetic and beautiful restaurant! Was very busy inside, food was amazing and great value. On the pricier side but food was amazing. For my birthday the staff danced, sang and the music blasted as they brought a dessert with sparklers on it, it was lovely 🩷 would definitely come back!! Thank you Zama!

Everytime I come here the service is fantastic, the food is delicious, the drinks are the best! I suggest you have Gerry the bar manager make your drinks he is a genius with mixing your favorite flavors. The ambiance is full of life! I have brought different people here and they all have fallen in love!

Great food but it seemed like the waitstaff was a bit overwhelmed. I’m fine with tag-teaming, but not with having to flag them down. And we were not in a hurry at all.

Beautiful restaurant. Great food - we ordered the shrimp app, shared the super salad, and we both ordered the salmon. Super loud music, so maybe sit outside if you’d like to have a conversation.
