Yangban, the genre-defying Korean American culinary ‘conversation’, which opened in Los Angeles’ Arts District, re-opens after a transformative interior overhaul of the space, revealing an evolution of the highly acclaimed restaurant. Now featuring a full-service dining room and updated food and beverage programs, the concept remains at its core a Modern-Korean American restaurant as told through the lens of husband-and-wife chefs Katianna and John Hong.

The food was good, I’ll give it that. But there were a slew of other issues. First, earlier in the day I checked Opentable to see if I could change my reservation from 2 to 4 people if necessary. The app said there were tables of 4 available, but I’d have to call the restaurant because I couldn’t modify the reservation on such short notice. I call and speak to the most confused person ever. She keeps telling me that they’re really busy tonight and she doesn’t know if they have tables of 4 available. I tell her according to the app they do. She doesn’t understand. She eventually admits that they do have the times listed on the listed available for 4, but she’s still have to check with someone if I could have the table. Huh? If my husband went into his app he could just take that table. Why couldn’t I? Anyway, I just get off because the whole thing is such a hassle. Then we get to the restaurant at 8:03 for our 8pm reservation. The guy at the host stand says he’ll “get us seated when he can”. There are a ton of people milling around the front so we ask how long he estimates it will be. He says 15-20 mins. Okay, we ask if there’s a bar we can wait at. He says they send people to the restaurant next door because they have a bar. Great. We go next door, we tell the hostess we’re just getting a drink at the bar, they seat us, give us drink menus, we order a drink. Right then my phone rings that our table is ready. So 15-20 minutes turned into 3. Guys- you cannot send people to the restaurant next door to get a drink and then call them three minutes later to come back! This is a terrible policy! You’re really screwing that restaurant next door. Then we get our menus and 2-3 of the dishes I was most excited to try (that made me come in the first place) were gone. And I was looking at the menu on THEIR website. Look, fine, the menu may change, but it’s 2024. When you change the menu- change your website the SAME day. Not hard.

The Server was great but the host seated us away too late for having a reservation. We also saw two other parties who came later than us get seated. Don’t take reservations if you don’t understand what they’re intended for.

Very, very good. The tofu mole and the short ribs were amazing. As wer the blue crab taco and scallop toast. My sibs loved the chocolate dessert.

5-stars throughout the board with good reason. My wife and I came here to celebrate our 5-year anniversary and we were treated with absolute hospitality. Our waiter, Kyle, was attentive, polite, and generally a rad hang. Highlights from the prix-fixe menu include the tteokbokki in mushroom sauce, a buttery cod that melted in your mouth, their signature fried chicken, the decadent short ribs, as well as the cheesecake. While we came to celebrate a special occasion, we can definitely see ourselves dining at Yangban during a casual evening out. Cheers, ya'll.

Really tasty food. Every dish was different and fun to try. We like tasting menus and found this one delicious but heavy portion-wise. The wine list is great and very good value for money. The service was excellent. There is enough staff to keep things moving at a great pace. The restaurant has no sound stuff on walls and ceilings so people get loud and their voices travel. Not great, but tolerable. Overall, this is a keeper. Favorites: salad (every bite amazing) and short ribs. RG.

My dinning experience of this restaurant surpassed my expectations. The whole staffs were very attentive and accommodating. Korean fusion style foods were unique and exquisite with variety of ingredients. I especially loved the battered chicken wings. I would definitely dine in the restaurant again.

Our server, Matty, was amazing. The food was next level good and creative. Don’t sleep on the scallop toast! We got a tour of the kitchen at the end of the night and it was pristine. Highly recommend Yangban.

The food is exceptional with a lot of value for the cost. Only complaint is that the wine pours were VERY light (we each got about half a glass, not even to the widest point in the cup)

Yangban was fabulous. We ordered the tasting menu with the wine selections. The pairings were magical and unexpected choices. The food was inventive and generously portioned. The waitstaff were friendly and welcoming.

Yangban is stellar. The food is unique yet familiar. The space is cozy with perfect lighting, and comfortable seating. The noise level was vibrant and alive, but still quiet enough to easily converse at our table. We ordered the pre-fixe menu. It was a lot of food, but we loved the variety of dishes, flavors, and the path built by each dish as the meal progressed. Stand outs were the rich, buttery scallop toast, the complex, bright green tea leaf salad, the juicy, savory short rib, and the PERFECT soft serve sundae. What a fantastic meal.

What a disappointing experience! We were not allowed to order leisurely - we wanted to order drinks and small bites (appetizers) but we have to order the entire meal order in one go! We ordered a second bottle of wine but it was not brought to us until we canceled it since we finished the meal. The waiter was not apologetic at all. All drinkware are dirty and dishes were chipped. We will not return!

Look, as far as eating in an alleyway without an available heat lamp goes, this was....fine? We ordered some things that never showed up, and were kinda treated like we didn't actually order it, which I'm actually ok with because one of the things (acorn beignet) we had ordered was aggressively bland. Crab tostadas were great, though. Highlight was the carrots in the banchan. I want gonna even say anything about this experience, but hey, a push notification asked how it was, so I answered. I really liked Brian, though.

The food and our wait person get high marks, but a couple of things could use improvement. First, we asked to speak with the sommelier to get wine recommendations, but he never stopped by the table. Second, my partner reported that the restroom was in need of cleaning and could benefit from a remodel. Otherwise, a lovely restaurant.

Some of the dishes, especially the beignet, scallop toast, sujebi and soft serve dessert, were exceptional. The tea leaf salad was terrific and expertly mixed; my partner was blown away by how thorough the table side method was performed by one of our servers. Service was friendly and unpretentious, fun and informative. We were fortunate enough to be seated as a couple at one of the booths along the lower section of the restaurant. We loved our meal and would highly recommend Yangban to anyone looking for a near perfect meal in LA.

Great job accommodating our party with two kids under 5. Server made great recommendations and the drinks matched the food in wonderful quality. Only would like some acoustic changes to decrease the sound. By the end of the night hard to hear our conversation at the table. Highly recommend.

We've celebrated our daughter's birthday here three years in a row. It's changed looks dramatically over the years but same amazing food and service. Unique experience and worth the drive downtown. Love the wings! Thanks for another great time!

My husband and I ordered the six course prix-fixe. The presentation was creative and wonderful. I enjoyed how seasonal produce was mixed for each course. A lovely dining experience from start to finish!
