High priced and the food was terrible. The seafood platter for two people; was 120 pounds. A bunch of mussels, 4 scallops, and a split small lobster. Ridiculous. The bread was good. The whole thing was worth about 10 pounds. maybe…..I left my sunglasses in the middle of the table and they didn’t have them the next day. Of course they didn’t. Not only was the food bad but their employee integrity is lacking. Definitely a place to avoid.

Poor experience. Shown to our table which we had booked in advance. Ordered cocktails then waited over 20 mins and still no drinks. Guests who had arrived later than us were served. After 30 mins we asked a waitress where our cocktails were….she went and checked. Told they were being made now. Simple cocktail 2 Martinis! They eventually arrived at the sane time as our food order. To add insult when we received our bill we were charged for an additional bottle of wine which we hadn’t ordered. We pointed this out and our bill was reduced by 50%. The restaurant wasn’t busy so no excuse for the error. If you dine here check your bill. Second time we’ve been to the White Horse. What a difference since Sept 23. Food and service not what it was. We won’t be going back. Shame

The food was outstanding, fresh and nicely presented. It’s a little pricey, but that’s to be expected in a tourist town. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Half empty though one table of six obviously friends of the staff getting good service other tables including us rather ignored. Food much lower quality than in the past. One guy working hard but clearly overwhelmed. Not good.

I've had much better meals here - this was my 5th visit - and wouldn't normally leave reviews, but I'm a fan of the restaurant and hope this can be constructive. There was something really off about this visit. A lot of menu items were unavailable, the service was slow, inattentive and inconsistent. Some portion sizes seem to have reduced along with the quality of their presentation. My visiting friend really enjoyed the meal, the food was still absolutely delicious, but I was really disappointed compared to other excellent visits.

I have enjoyed eating here in the past, but on this occasion I was very disappointed. Several items on the menu were unavailable, and the quality of the food that we received was poor. I don’t think that I will return.

We eat in this restaurant once a year (for the past 6 years). We love the place. But we got a little bit désappointed this time... The atmosphere and the temperature inside were cold. The staff was kind of tired and gutted. Food was superb as usual, but it's a shame it's always the exact same menu, no suggestions, no fun.

White Horse is one of my favorite places to eat but unfortunately, the service recently was very poor. Two items were forgotten and we had to remind our server. There was a long delay before we finally received the rest of our food. The food was excellent as always and we appreciated the 25% discount on our bill but would have preferred to pay the full amount and have our dishes all arrive in a timely manner. There was also a mix up over seating where they tried to seat us in the bar after I had reserved a table in the main restaurant and we were made to feel like we were inconveniencing them.

Service was friendly and professional but the food was a massive disappointment Mussels and clams- cold, chewy and rubbery, had been sitting around for a while. I suspect they were left over from a previous order. Straw fries - cold, soggy, greasy, unseasoned Slaw- tired and dried out looking shreds of carrot and cabbage with no dressing on it at all. Not a drop Prawn tempura- cold, soggy. Shame for £15! Lobster and Prawn Toast- cold , greasy, soggy Tuna- ok. But the dipping sauce was bland Apple Tart- tough Cheese- delicious! Such a let down. I’m a chef, and have cooked all over the world for over 20 years. I find it very difficult to understand when a kitchen takes no pride in what it sends to customers. We were given 25% off the food bill and complementary puds. But the manager didn’t even bother to come over and speak to us about our experience. FOH staff all charming though so we tipped well. But it’s a pity that they will have to split that with the kitchen. Really wouldn’t recommend

Disappointing. Tempura broccoli was served with a soggy, thick undercooked batter. Nothing like tempura, more bad chip shop. However, the waiter immediately took it back and removed the charge. Overall I did not think it offered good value for money.

I've eaten at the White Horse several times and always been knocked out by the food and ambience in the restaurant. Last Friday,I was delighted to get a table at quite late notice, for a 9pm sitting - we had good friend visiting Edinburgh from Birmingham and a seat at the White Horse seemed like a sure fire treat. Unfortunately our overall experience was not as ideal as any of us would have wanted. We were obviously in the last sitting, that much was clear from the staff - we were not wasting any time, I had to explain the menu to our guests, this is usually delivered with expertise by a member of the service team. We ordered two bottles of wine and then quick fired out a massive order of Oysters, Plates and sides. The food arrived, but in no particular order, or any remembrance of who had ordered what, just thrown down and off to get the next plates, to stack on our already chaotic table. * The food, as ever, was superb - Oysters fresh and zingy, The seared tuna perfectly treated, tempura batter light and crispy - total compliments to the chef, hope you got tipped! * When we were half way through dining, we were told the kitchen was closing, which is good practice and we declined any more food. This is when the night went south for myself and my companions, we were sat in the mid section between the bar and back area and soon it appeared that the staff were no longer working, but drinking and talking loudly in the bar. Whilst my friends were finishing the last of the food, I popped out for a vape, which seemed to wind up the staff , like we were outstaying our welcome - this was just after 10.30pm. I returned back inside and was asked about the experience by the bar man, I replied all was good, but got the same feeling that we we're holding them up going out . I did feel the need to pay the bill and hurry my party along - I don't think thats a very pleasant atmosphere conducive with customer relations. Sad, given past experience. Cant fault the food, though.

Lovely ambiance, AMAZING food, outstanding service. We were well attended to and our servers were helpful with wine & food recommendations. Scallops, mussels & clams, hake ceviche, sesame tuna and charred sourdough with seaweed butter were all phenomenal!

A good choice of sea food on a tapas style menu, lovely tempura batter on prawns and oysters The only disappointment was the beef and oysters where the meat looked amazing but was a chewy cut and covered in parsley. I'd come back for the core fish courses

Fab waitress karolina, scallops cooked to perfection, octopus lovely, prawn toast, we were sitting at the counter, timed it right, it wasn’t heaving so we had better service, Not the cheapest, But I took my daughter there for lunch, we both loved it.. (she’s now a fan of oysters) I’d defo go back.. however I read reviews from some people saying service lacking, I think get there when it’s not to busy… Had two glasses of Prosecco, sadly spilt one.. expensive mistake!!… It defo made our day from Newcastle.. 100% would go back 👍

I wanted to take the family here for dinner to celebrate 10 years of retirement and was so excited to introduce them to it. We had some fabulous dishes but the hassleback potatoes were virtually raw and so was the broccoli. The heritage tomatoes were congealed together with a toffee like substance. I remember the food being brought out in dribs and drabs last time so there was never too much on the table and we could savour dishes while they were still warm, but that didn’t happen this time so it felt we were rushing everything. The staff were very apologetic and took all the dishes above off the bill and the other things we ordered were scrummy - Octopus, crab scotch egg, mussels & clams, salt & pepper prawns.

Im sorry to say i was very disappointed. Having been several times before I thought I knew what to expect. But no, the welcome wasn’t great, the wines were way overpriced, the tempura prawns were very greasy and tasteless and the fries had to be returned because they were cold. The monkfish satay was undercooked however the octopus was delicious. I believe it’s under new ownership since I last visited, maybe that explains why things have changed.

Our food orders were excessively salty. Broccoli tempura had uncooked batter in the broccoli head. A seaweed salad was ordered, but was not served. We discovered that it was not on the bill, so that was okay. A double whiskey was ordered, but only a single came. Waiting staff said it was a double, even though it looked like an excessively iced single. The final bill said it was a single. Overall quite disappointing.

Lovely setting, good ambience but sadly disappointed with the food. Ordered a platter which was not seasoned at all, and the small plates all came out individually so overall a poor dining experience as a group of 4. The small plates were nice, and better value than the platter.

Staff grest, place was nice, food was pretty bland, we had heard great reviews, but felt a bit let down by some plates. Some were lovely including the monkfish satay. Had high expectations for the crab fries, didn't live up to the hype. Wine was lovely.

Food was very good. Only bad point was the Scallops, didn't taste the freshest. A table near us sent theirs back as they where griitty. Crab scotch egg was amazing! My only real complaint was the timing of the food. We where served 3 of our 4 mains first without sides. We where almost finished them when the last main and two sides came out. I told the waitress we where still waiting on our sides and was bluntly told, it's tapas that's how it is, they arrive when ready. I don't know in what world you serve your bread and potato sides at the end. It would have been nice to be able to mix and match the potatoes and bread with our mains from the beginning.
