Originally built as a farmhouse for Link House Farm, one of the three farms which made up early Amble, the pub is one of the oldest buildings in the whole of the town! Records dating back as far as 1842 show that the farm was owned by a Mrs Maria Wellwood - a possible explanation for the pub's name today! Our traditional pub classics are expertly crafted from our seasonal menus and the bar is crammed with local ales and tipples to tempt any taste buds. Using the most seasonal ingredients and decadent flavours, there's a dish for every desire. Turn your fleeting visit into a welcomed stay by resting your head in one of our four comfortable family ensuite rooms. Sunday lunch today,food warm and bland,my gammon and turkey would have gone in a sandwich cabbage hard and parsnip well browned but hard,string beans dry carrots ok. We have gone to Wellwood for years and loved it but today waste of money 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼

Went on Easter Sunday for carvery. Staff said hot plate broken. Meat served on cold plates and small amount of veg brought to table. Had to ask for stuffing. Table staff helpful and pleasant. Mediocre amount of good. Won’t go again unless the new management improve .

Six people bill total £115. Food ok but was surprised at the portions considering the price. Think twice about return.

Friendly atmosphere, our dog was made very welcome too. Veg were not over cooked which was great and the meat was tender. I would thoroughly recommend

All I can say is okay. Was overall dissapointed, went with my family who visited. Despite it being Saturday night it was very quiet, still took our food an over an hour to come, and when it did it wasn't really good value for money. The food was fine but not a lot of it. Left unfortunately feeling hungry still and was expensive for what it was. Not usually one to write negative reviews but we did leave feeling disappointed unfortunately which I'm sad to say.

The food we ate was really good but a bit chaotic with the sides… e.g sautéed potatoes and seasonal veg came as mash and only peas…. Avoid the cocktails 😞 Overall though, a team doing their best and were pleasant.

Lovely place was really looking forward to our meal, was quiet so restaurant side was closed and informed on our arrival but not an issue as other areas were lovely, orders taken? Drinks etc great but food somewhat lacking, was asked if ok and said one meal was ok but the “hand finished steak n ale pie was not of a very good standard, as tho had been reheated in a microwave for too long so filling fry and pastry in parts hard, no apologies, just seemed accepting of comment, paid bill and left, would not return again

There was only carvery available. We chose a standard Sunday Lunch, the meat was nice quality but cut very thin and portion was very small. £1.49 for an extra Yorkshire pudding was overpriced too. Vegetables were poor quality and the stuffing was too hard to chew. We chose this restaurant by researching the best Sunday lunch in Northumberland. Very disappointing.

I was very disappointed with our visit on Sunday. First of all they said the booking was mixed up as they didn’t know we had a dog, when i put a note on the booking and booked the ‘bar’ area as it states to do so on the booking if you have a dog. Then when we got to the carvery, half the food was missing so we had to just pick from what was left. I also put on the booking when it asked about special occasions that we were celebrating an anniversary and a birthday and neither of them were acknowledges.

Food was fine but not the gastro pub suggestion made on the website. Service was fine but staff appeared busy despite there being few tables. A little disappointed as this was a meal out for my husband birthday whilst staying in Amble.

The food was delicious, I had chicken schnitzel with a beautiful caesar salad. The chicken and salad went really well together. My OH had the mixed grill and what a treat. Plenty of it and delicious. The only reason I gave it 4/5 overall, was that I am in a wheelchair and as the pub was busy, I was unable to access the restaurant section, or toilets. I would, however, go again and recommend it.

I very rarely write reviews but on this occasion I think something needs to be said. For starters we had 2 baked camembert between the 4 of us, this was lovely but no extra plates were given and not enough toast for the amount of cheese. Mains - scampi was OK chips cold and the peas hard as little rocks. Sausage and mash was the best out of the 4 meals we had. Fish finger sandwich was OK but the bread was dry and inedible. Southernfried chicken burger was awful. No flavour at all, dry and well over cooked, limp lettuce very few cold chips. They really need to sort themselves out. Very very poor.

We went for Sunday lunch. Portions of meat were very good and food was tasty. Lovely friendly bar restaurant. You can park in the carpark for the afternoon, if you give registration number when you arrive.

We didn’t get the table that was reserved for us. My wife was served a tonic water on arrival and the waitress offered to put it on our tab. When food was ordered we paid. We were sat at a very tight table to the right of the door. We decided to eat our food and go. Thinking we had paid for everything, when my wife paid at the bar, we left, to be stopped and told we owed £2 for the tonic.

Went for Sunday dinner. The service was very well organised. It was good to have a choice of the size of plate that you wanted. The small plate was perfect for myself and my partner. The food quality was very good. All the food was nice and warm. Would go again.

We travel around the North East for Sunday dinner and this is by far the best carvery. Everything has so much taste especially the veg. Plenty of choice with 7 veg plus mashed potato roast potato, stuffing balls and Yorkshire pud plus choice of meats.

A bit confusing to start with as to how the carvery process worked, was soon explained though. They were busy as it was women’s World Cup final day. Food was lovely, quick easy process. Needed another chair fir our table and it was quickly brought our. Overall a very pleasant experience

We love a carvery and choose Wellwood as it was rated highly, service was swift, i haf the beed which was delicious choice of vegetables was good however the yorkshire was burnt on bottom so couldnt eat it all (not to much of an issue). Mashed potato was worst ive ever had not sure if it was left uncovered so was hard on the top and i couldnt even describe the taste, turnip was bland, cauli cheese was lovely as was gravy My partner had pork and said it was lovely but agreed on veg unfortunately and wasnt offered a yorkshire pudding. For the price of the small v large i would have expected a larger plate as only difference I could see was plate size and given it is a carvery you can go back as many times as you like for veg?? Friendly staff Food was OK Drinks reasonably price Would we return - yes due to quality of meat and veg issues can be resolved

Great food and great value. Our second visit on consecutive Fridays and would recommend the pub/restaurant to anyone visiting the Amble area. We will return soon
