Shawn Shepherd, owner of Wahoo Seafood Grill, grew up helping his mom cook for his six siblings. His family moved from Ohio to Tennessee to Alabama and then to Mississippi, but no matter where they lived, you could always find Shepherd learning how to create a new dishes alongside family, friends, and neighbors... anyone who would let him in their kitchen. He especially loved visiting his grandfather, who owned a seafood restaurant in Pennsylvania.

When Shepherd joined the Navy, he wanted to be a cook, but the Navy wouldn't let him because his testing scores were too high. After nearly 7 years, he was honorably discharged and he worked as a cook by day and bartender by night. Eventually, he opened his first restaurant, Shepherd's, in 1999.

He went on to operate several successful restaurants after that, and in 2013, he partnered with Butch Monaghan. Together, they opened Wahoo Seafood Grill in Gainesville followed by the Tallahassee location in 2015.

The food was burnt and tasted terrible. The service was extremely slow and most diners were coughing or gagging throughout our meal. I would never recommend this place to anyone.

My wife and I are not sports fanatics so we booked dinner here on Super Bowl Sunday. We figure almost everywhere would have it on at least in the bar area. But when we walked in for our reservations, not only were we not greeted, but all the tables had been turned to face the bar televisions and the main dining room was closed. It seemed that their only intention that evening was showing the Super Bowl. Which is fine, but if that’s your theme for the evening, advertise it. We stood at the hostess stand m, taking this in, before deciding to leave and go elsewhere. We went to Ballyhoos which was great, had a much cleaner vibe and welcoming atmosphere.

Portion sizes were way too small for the prices you pay. Plus, I saw other people got more. Ugh!!

First time eating there. Very nice hostess greeted me and told me about some of the menu items. The server came within a reasonable amount of time. Took drink order. I ordered an appetizer and it was good. They don’t have many choices for healthy food most of it is fried and very few items are blackened or grilled. I ordered a seafood combo and it was ok. Might have been better blackened or grilled. The place is extremely loud due to the ice crusher for making frozen drinks. Prices are on the very high side bill was almost $80 for one person. Meal consisted of gator tail, seafood combo and 2 adult beverages. Probably won’t be going back due to the price.

All you can eat crab legs and all day happy hour with double vodka for $8 Looking forward to next visit

They have a large patio with heaters which I loved since it was 55 degrees that day and I tried the fried green tomatoes which were really good. They also had more southern recipes like jambalaya and shrimp and grits too which I haven’t seen much of in Florida. Our server was Savannah and she was very attentive and sweet and even offered to bring our dog a water bowl. Overall I’ll go back and tried the dollar oysters on thursday.

Rude greeting by hostess " we don't take reservations "..even after I showed her my reservation on Open table! After that, food and service was very good

I'm so sorry that our hostess wasn't as pleasant to you and I'd like to explain that there was a miscommunication and OpenTable prematurely activated our account for bookings so no one at a store level would have known about OpenTable reservations. I sincerely apologize and would love to invite you back in to have a much better experience. We can't leave direct contact information but please call the store so we can make this right!
