Stationed in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, Virtue is a Southern American restaurant that leads with a culture of hospitality & kindness. We’ve worked hard to create a warm, honest & thoughtful space. We pride ourselves on unpretentious service, timing & most importantly providing great value. At Virtue we use heritage techniques to create some familiar flavors, & some new ones. We hope to see you soon.

    I'm not new to virtue, it's one of my absolute favorite restaurants. This visit was a mother's day gift card present from my son to myself and my mother. It was my mother's first visit. She loved everything, so did I of course. We both ordered the shortrib dinner, sides of collard greens, gumbo, and the much anticipated honey butter cornbread 😋 the flavors were robust but not overwhelming. Virtue really knows how to keep that southern soulfood taste alive while adding their own flair to it. Anthony was our waiter and he was very attentive, knowledgeable, gave great suggestions, and was an overall very pleasant server. I ordered 2 margaritas because they were delicious. I've never had a bad cocktail here, never watered down. And, for the first time I ordered desert to go. I got the carrot cake and it's perfection. The cake is moist and yummy with the best icing I've ever had on a carrot cake, hand to God. I'll of course be back!

    I LOVE this restaurant. But they recently got rid of their delicious kale salad, replacing it with a Bibb lettuce salad. Please bring back the kale salad. The Bibb is not substantial enough for the price. (Sorry) Also, it is hard to eat, because the Bibb leaves are serves whole. Please just bring back the kale salad.

    Terrific experience! Greatly enjoyed the food especially the cauliflower and the snap pea dish.

    Our server was Roj and she was amazing! Very helpful, knowledgeable and patient with explanations. We ordered a range of dishes (appetizers, main and sides) and each one was outstanding. It is obvious care was taken with each dish. And they were good portions so we felt we got our money's worth. One suggestion I would make is for the suggested tip to be on the cost of the meal only. We noticed afterwards that the suggested tip amount was based on the total, which included the insurance 3.5% and the taxes. Taxes are enough the first time without having to pay an extra 22%! Otherwise, I would definitely recommend.

    We felt truly rushed. Plates were swiftly removed when we barely finished, and yet, we weren't allowed to be seated before most of the party had arrived. It was stressful. Salad was awful. While the server was friendly, I was shocked to learn the restaurant had nothing but regular milk for my coffee, after taking the time to ask about allergies. I can't tolerate lactose, and the restaurant couldn't accomodate me. Really? In this day and age? Also, this was simply the MOST EXPENSIVE meal we've had in Chicago, and it was not worth it. I understand the concept, but I won't be back to Virtue and won't recommend it either.

    We were visiting from Denver, and this restaurant was a unanimous highlight of the trip. The food is incredible, the people seemed truly happy to be working here, and they really live up to their name. This is an absolute gem. We feel blessed and grateful we got to eat here! Thank you to chef and staff for a wonderful, memorable dinner.

    Fabulous food and overall experience!! The pea salad was amazing, as was the blackened fish w grits. I’m still thinking about the M&C 2 days later. Everyone in my group loved the dinner! Thank you for a lovely evening!

    An absolutely lovely meal and experienxe at Virtue. The flavors were amazing - both the food and drink - and service from Alex was outstanding. A perfect way to celebrate our 28th anniversary.
