Vertical Detroit opened its doors in 2015 under the expertise of James Lutfy and Remy Lutfy. Their combined fifty years of wine knowledge, obtained after owning the Fine Wine Source in Livonia, Michigan, studying wines across the globe and simply having an absolute passion for it, gave Vertical Detroit the title of Downtown Detroit’s first high-end, wine-centric restaurant. Vertical Detroit serves as a wine bar/restaurant/retail space in the historic Paradise Valley district of Downtown Detroit. The space gives patrons a luxurious, yet comfortable atmosphere to enjoy quality wine, beer and liquor, paired with small plates, entrées and desserts. The wine bar concentrates on wine flights, specialty cocktails, shareable plates and retail sales. Vertical Detroit has something for everyone; whether you’re downtown for a casual drink, date night, catching up with friends, or stopping in after enjoying a show.

We made an early and last minute pre-theater reservation. Warmly welcomed at this "European like bistro". Menu selection was excellent and varied. Our server provided good guidance for our choices of swordfish, mushroom risotto with scallops, and a shared Ceasar salad. Cocktails were excellent (Old Fashioned and a house special which name I cannot recall). The Ceasar salad was served promptly along with homemade garlic encrusted focaccia. The server had pre-split our salad and one was more than enough for two of us. Both dinners were excellent as was the presentation. A decadent espresso and chocolate brownie dessert followed. $100 each inclusive of tax and 20% gratuity. We'll be back!

Wonderful. Only complaint was the chairs were uncomfortable. Too high for the table we sat at. It was hard to sit close to the table. Our backs and thighs were uncomfortable.

The wine collection is impressive The food was very good Unfortunately as I was leaving with guests from France!!! I was followed by the staff yelling “we need a signed copy of the bill”. It was embarrassing and made me look like someone playing games to avoid paying his bill….. Will think twice before coming back.

This restaurant/wine bar is a hidden gem, right in the heart of the Arts & Entertainment district. It is within very easy walking distance of the Detroit Opera House, The Music Hall Theater, Comerica Park, etc., and with the Opera House Garage right across the street. It has an incredibly well-stocked wine selection (200+ wines by the glass), ample "small plates" dishes for solo dining or sharing, and very reasonable prices by downtown standards. Plus the atmosphere is charming and staff is very friendly and knowledegable. We are a small group of suburban ladies who frequent downtown cultural events. We will be back!

I can’t remember my waiter but he was fantastic! I met Gordon (GM) who I told I had been there 3 times in the last handful of weeks and he showed us a lovely time. Eventually he introduced me to Jim Lutfy who let our party of 7 sample 4 desserts. Once again the pork chop and grits were amazing.

This is our second trip to Vertical for dinner, and the food has always been excellent. There are thoughtful dishes and a lot of variety on the menu, with great cocktails and a lengthy wine list. Our server was prompt, informed, and friendly. I have one singular negative to report. The chairs at the "high tops" near the front of the dining area were so uncomfortable! All four of us are somewhat tall (5'7"+), and the height of the table matched with the height of the chairs was nearly impossible to navigate. It's difficult to explain, but no body position makes sense. Your legs are either firmly pressed against the bottom of the table or awkwardly dangling in purgatory above the floor. We were able to laugh it off and enjoy our meals, but this seems like a significant oversight for an otherwise exceptional eatery. We will undoubtedly return to Vertical but will request a low-top table.

Food was great! Didn’t care for the matcha drink and I’m a huge matcha lover. Our waiter was great but felt rushed by one the bus boys who would come to clear our plates. The tomahawk steak was very good so I would go back for that.

Let me start with the staff. Iesha, Chad, Jay , Theresa. Amazing and very attentive. The restaurant has great ambience/vibe. I had scallops. The first 2 I ate were not good. The rest were mediocre. Friend had a filet. He said it was amazing. Drinks were very good. I will definitely be back !

We had a lovely dinner, staff was friendly and helpful since this was our first time there. Loved the atmosphere, but the tables are super close together so you end up overhearing a lot of conversations. But overall we enjoyed the food so much and service was excellent. My husband had the pork chop which was amazing and I had the salmon which was divine! Both highly recommended!

The restaurant is extremely small. No outside food like birthday cakes. The food is mediocre and quite pricey. $175 for 3 drinks, short ribs (which weren’t very tender at all), bread, and 3 sides. Certainly, nothing to write home about.

This was such an amazing experience for my boyfriend and I! We had the pork chop and it was unlike anything I’ve ever had. Caesar salad was incredible too and Shawn & Kyle were amazing waiters. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Always a fantastic meal. The charcuterie board is the best in Detroit. Ribeye and lamb loin were delicious and perfectly cooked. Service is on point.

We had a wonderful dining experience. It is pricey but very convenient to where we parked and the Opera House, which is important for we Senior citizens. First class in every way!

Food, service, drinks, and atmosphere were all excellent. The only thing that wasn't perfect was that it took a little bit to get our main course after our appetizers and salads. Would definitely go back though.

Food was good and our server was nice and explained items in the menu for us. However, the restaurant was empty but they thought it was a good idea to sit us next to the stinky bathroom. It smelled like adult diapers and it was hard to focus on eating we just wanted to hurry up and get out of there. The menu selection was pretty small but the prices were fair. Unfortunately did not meet my expectations
