Verbena is a restaurant and bar located in the heart of West 6th Street occupying the street side ground level of the award-winning Canopy by Hilton Hotel. The venue is comprised of a 36-seat bar and lounge, a 60-seat dining room with open kitchen, and wood-burning hearth, both which open to a lush open-air courtyard.

Journey through Chef Paolo’s gastronomic narrative where he pays homage to his contemporary Mexican roots. His menu is highly influenced with essences of French techniques and contains stories and flavors he’s discovered throughout his travels. It is truly a memorable dining experience.

Sad to see this formerly great restaurant end up like this. Maybe 3 other tables in use at 7:30 on a Friday, and the food gives a clue as to why. On the positive side, the Rosemary’s Baby Daddy cocktail was an excellent and original take on the mezcal cocktails you now see everywhere in town. And the pork-infused bean dip was delicious. Beyond that, the dos moles chicken was decent; the scallops not nearly interesting enough for a $45 entree; the glazed carrots a jumbled, overcooked, oddly flavored mess; and the prosciutto flatbread drowning in tzatziki sauce a bad idea that never should have made it past the chef’s first tasting. Even the spiced chocolate cake ruined its good flavor with a texture as dry as particle board. The change in exec chefs and hard turn to a Mexican menu certainly looks like a major mistake based on our previous visits compared to this most recent experience. Austin has way too many excellent options at this higher price point for this to survive in its current form. Hope the hotel will find a restaurant worthy of this gorgeous space.

I don’t know how this place is still in business. They’ve changed their menu, and not for the best. The portions are tiny, the prices are not. The rabbit was inedible. The only tasty thing we ordered and ate was the potato pave. When we asked for our check, the server said, “So be it.”

All of the food looked incredible, but it was one of the more flavorless meals that I can remember. At that price point it was terrible value.

The cocktails were delicious, my personal favorite being the Coconut Margarita. Our table ordered the Eggs Benedict, Avocado Toast with Salmon, and the Churro Pancakes. Everything was amazing! I would highly recommend.

The ambience was very cute but the eggs that were “poached” were nearly raw (like actually cold on the inside) and the sourdough toast that was given with both the breakfast plate and the avocado toast was embarrassingly small and thin. For the price I won’t be visiting again or recommending to friends or family to visit either

A nice place with a kind of food which I could not connect with any cuisine type. Maybe they should look for another or new chef. I don't know. I don't expect to be excited at this price range but to be at least satisfied.
