Service was lacking. Food was just OK. The wine we requested they were out of. The second one….also not available and the one we finally got was not even on the list. Update your wine list! I’ve had better bistro dining.

Escargot and oyster appetizers were excellent as were the bouillabaisse and mussels. Good wine choices (even the happy hour choices). A little pricey given that the appetizers and wine were discounted). I’ll return.

Decent french cafe food, but nothing special. Brunch menu was kind of limited. It seemed understaffed and many tables in the dining room lacked ambiance and seemed like it was on the way to be a little run down.

Service was great. And our waitperson was very friendly! French onion soup was good but a tad too salty. My steak au poivre was over peppered big time to Tabatha my mouth burned - a little l ss heavy handed with that and the salt in the soup and It would be perfect. My husband’s “tart” was more like a flatbread but it was tasty, as was his trout. Deserts were good. Truly the best dish of the evening was the lemon poppyseed soufflé - really delicious! For reference we did the prix fix menu as we were going to a performance after. So value wise it was great. Have had many good brunches here in the past - so I will come back.

From the host’s friendly greeting to the delicious and well presented food and attentive service, we had a lovely experience at Ventaux! We took advantage of the Tuesday oyster special (and other happy hour deals), which we greatly enjoyed. Andrea, our server, made us feel well cared for. She brought my friend wine tastings when she had trouble deciding between two wines and helped us clean up a spill later on (I swear we hadn’t overimbibed!). Overall, we had a wonderful time, and we plan to come back!

Our service was just terrible, and inexplicably so. We were there pre-theater, which we explained. We each ordered a drink, which were brought, and then we ordered a baguette, an appetizer each, and a salad each. We waited a moderately long time before any food came -- why didn't the bread come out at this time? Then, my companion's oysters came out. Still no bread (server said she'd have to go see if it was ready??) & still nothing for me. We asked where my steak tartare was - she seemed mystified. Then, the 2 salads came out with the bread. Finally my appetizer came. The baguette came on a big plate but we were not given bread & butter plates each. Also, we had no silverware on our table and had to point that out 2x when the oysters came out. Also, my companion had to ask for an oyster fork as that didn't come out either. Rather odd mistake for a place that supposedly specializes in oysters! Lastly, our bill was extremely messed up. By this point we were really stressed about making our show, but we asked to get this resolved: pointed out to them that my companion was charged twice, separately, for half the bill each, instead of half on each of our credit cards as we asked. The server, again, had no concept, & had to call the manager over who insisted that wasn't the case! At which point we gave up because we had to go. Just bad service from beginning to end. Won't be returning despite the food being tasty.

Service was great and we really appreciated the reserve set up the host placed for us. We had the Baked Brie, Steak Frites, and the Salmon. Everything was great, though the salmon might have been undercooked, it made me ill almost immediately after leaving. That was the only upset of our night

Food is average. We didn’t have a waiter. Bartender helped us but had to flag someone down anytime we needed anything. Frustrating. Food is average. Not a good experience today.

Waitress was very good. Ambience terrible. We were seated in a booth inf front of the giant TV---ugly, totally non French! Music was constant distraction of thumping bass--play something charming of you call yourself a French brasserie. The oysters are delicious, but very small and ridiculously expensive. ... so was the wine. We could hardly hear the people at our table.

Good experience overall - a few specifics: I had the fixed-price menu, the one on Thursday night. 2 of the 3 dishes were excellent (brie and financier), the lobster dish not so much - it was OK but not what I expected from the menu. Service was excellent; waiter was very helpful and attentive. One negative was the table itself - it was sticky - like, the whole horizontal surface. Not sure why and it seemed like the tables next to us were sticky also. Could we have asked to be moved to another table? Possibly, though there weren't a lot of empty tables so we didn't want to be disruptive. It definitely didn't give a good impression however - maybe the veneer on the table was old? It wasn't a spill or anything like that. Regardless, I'd highly recommend taking a look at and addressing this.

This was one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. This time, it was extremely loud and two requests to turn down the music had no result. The table was sticky. My dining companion had a nut allergy, which I communicated through Open Table. That was not carried over and nuts were served.

Food was decent, however the service was terrible. We had a reservation and arrived on time, but we waited at least 10-15 minutes with no one ahead of us. The hostess seemed to have just disappeared after saying she would get our table ready. It was strange because we didn’t know where she went and there were quite a few open tables available. Our overworked waiter had far too many tables to take care of. We asked for salt 3 times. It was not his fault. He had far too many tables. Someone in our party (4people) finally got up and looked around, and grabbed salt from another empty table. There was also some sort of drinking game happening with what appeared to be employees near the hostess desk. They were yelling Chug, Chug, Chug as the person gulped his drink down. Just weird. We won’t go back.

Surprised they couldn’t make a simple Cosmopolitan or a Sidecar so we got different drinks. Never had creamed spinach “like that” so we didn’t eat it after tasting. Never had crème brûlée that had a sour like taste and runny instead of true custard. The Moules Frites was very good, as was the Baked Brie and the Financier.

It was terrible. If you have food allergies, do not go here. I am allergic to dairy, fish and shellfish as well as having celiac. I was told that there was not even one thing that they could prepare for me… no steak, no hamburger, no salad, nothing. I was also asked ‘how celiac are you’. I have not been told by restaurant that they could not prepare a meal for me since 2004. Btw- the restaurant was about half full when this took place. Truly amazing that we had to leave after a glass of water…

We had a 8:45 reservation. When time came for dessert, we were told coffee service stops at 9. So we were not served coffee. Waiter said we were lucky they had dessert for us. This is not acceptable for $300 dinner. You should remind late reservations coffee and dessert are not possible.

Service was not good. Food is OK. I would not go here again. There’s so many better options in Chicago.

Pros: Ability to make same-day reservation on Open Table. No service charge for order mix up. Cons: Ordered steak frites with a well-seasoned steak but lacked beef flavor and was closer to rare as opposed to the medium requested. The fries were crispy but bland. Received a baguette and butter that was apparently meant for another table which was the only tasty item eaten. Dined at the bar next to the oyster bar. The oyster shucker talked to himself the entire time, muttering angry remarks which were unclear to ascertain if they were directed at his job or personal life. Overall a very strange experience with sub-par food.

The food was fine but the service left a lot to be desired. Our server struggled to understand us, but we also had to ask for water refills and such instead of them checking on us. The bus person came three times to try to take our plates, shortly after we were served and clearly had a bunch of food on the plate. They finally took the plate which still had food I was planning to take home. The chairs were all super stained and made me concerned I was going to stain my clothes. I asked for a table in or near the cafe and we were placed in the absolute back where the door to the kitchen was, even though the place was mostly empty when we arrived. For the amount of money it costs to eat here, I don’t feel that this experience is acceptable. I’ve had the same experience the last time I had brunch here, but I didn’t say anything because I thought it might be one-off. But considering this is a standard experience now, I felt the business should be aware.

On était sur la partie intérieure et non celle avec la belle tapisserie verte. C’est un beau cadre. La nourriture est bonne. On a pris un yaourt granola qui était très bon. Le sandwich jambon beurre est correct.

service was terrible, understaffed - waited 15 mins at front desk before being acknowledged for a 9am breakfast meeting reservation. Same person was seating tables, getting coffees and orders - not her fault. Terrible experience and would never recommend.

We had Easter Brunch and were generally pleased with our experience. Our main server was absent for extended periods, which is the hit on service in general. The Bus team that cleared and replaced service was excellent. The food was very good, although overpriced for the quality.

Was there on a weeknight. Not super busy, towards the end of happy hour. Service was not the best. Had to ask 3 times to get my dinner guest something to drink and also several times for boxes. Seemed a little pricey for that little of attention. They seemed well staffed. Maybe part of the problem was that neither of us could really fully hear what was said from staff. Baked Brie with Baguette was ok. I wish it came with something fruity, but that's my personal problem. Trout was nice, but for 41 dollars, I wish I would have at least gotten a vegetable and not just a fish and half a lemon on a sea of butter. I love butter. Loved the fries. The table was super sticky. I saw someone said they had just gotten them refinished. They were definitely not fully dry, and it felt weird. The plates left inprints. Overall, kinda meh. Happy hour pricing decent though.

Table was partly sticky and when I mentioned it to management, they explained the tables were recently varnished. The table should have been taken out of service to dry as it felt like we were having dinner at a preschool table. We sent two starters back. The brie was microwaved and not fully cooked. When I asked for it to be fully baked, it returned a watery mess. The flatbread replacement that they entitle “Tarte Flambe” is misnamed. It’s flatbread and rhe pancetta atop it made the entire dish greasy and inedible. My son enjoyed a hamburger. I had a decent french onion soup. Service was top notch but the food and table were not a match.

We ordered eggs Benedict and it came with a side of potatoes. The food was exceptional!!!! The service, however, was horrible. Our waitress didn’t check on us once, the chef brought the food out and that was it. We had to ask another waiter to bring us the check so we could pay and leave.
