Upstate Craft Beer & Oyster Bar puts what it does right in its name. This is a place custom designed for fans of local small-batch brews and a well-stocked raw bar. The inside of the restaurant is as cozy and comfortable as one would expect, as it is a relaxed atmosphere similar to a sports bar in the off-season. One of the keys to Upstate's success is its commitment to freshness. So much so that there isn't even a freezer in the building as everything is brought in fresh daily.Obviously, the oysters and clams are what most patrons come for, and Upstate's selection of west and east coast varieties changes every day, depending on what is available. That's certainly not the only thing on the menu, though. Guests can try out shared plates of house cured salmon, crab cakes, squid salad and even sea urchin.

Friendly and attentive service. Food was delicious! I had scallops that melted in my mouth. It's a small place so the noise level gets a little high when it's at capacity. If you like oysters, definitely check it out.

Outdoor area was pretty cold. One of the heat lamps didn’t seem to be working. Other than that food, drinks and service were all great.

One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. If they try to stick you next to the curtain that separates the dining area from the front entrance, don’t do it. We were bumped into while seated, without exaggeration, two dozen times. The hostess did nothing to dissuade this, and she herself bumped into me and made no acknowledgment of this. Bottom line, the place is far too cramped and this are of the restaurant simply can’t accommodate a table. Past that, the oysters were good but everything else was underwhelming. I ordered the oysters for my main; there were four of them in there. Our server was very good, but again, the hostess was rude and dismissive. I can’t in good conscience recommend this restaurant. We couldn’t leave fast enough.

Reservation at 7, but we were seated at 8.10 and made to stand outside in the cold. When I asked for a dirty glass to be replaced the stroppy waitress yelled at me that a “glass is a glass” and practically threw another one at me. Food used to be top notch, was just ok.

Definitely our favorite place to go for for oyster. Fresh and delicious. Beside oyster, food are amazing and it’s valued for the price. Highly recommend!

Overall just a fantastic little place in the East Village. The food is so fresh and delicious. So tasty. Really just fresh and amazing. Service is great. It’s a tight spot so don’t bring all your crap. Be chill. Enjoy. Happy hour 6 oysters and a beer for $12 is a no brainer. They only serve whats fresh. Did I mention fresh?! Don’t recognize what it is? Try it you’ll love it!

oysters, bone marrow, trout, and scallops were amazing!! great happy hour value. just disappointed in the gnocchi the texture was a bit off. But overall very pleased w the experience!

Really great experience. They understood and explained the various oyster varieties and what to expect, taste wise. The presentation was organized and again, explained. They brought out a complimentary appetizer as well as desert. The entrees were very well prepared and delicious. Really enjoyed our dining experience and will definitely return.

With a lot of competition in Baltimore for great crab and oysters, this place nails it. Great cocktails, great service, but most importantly the food was superlative. Visiting from NYC and counting on s great Baltimore crab cake, I couldn’t have been happier.

Great no-frills place for oysters and drinks. Nice selection of oysters and beers -perfect for a summer night. Looking forward to trying more of the menu! Staff was friendly and knowledgeable about both beer and oysters and pointed out specials :)

Food and service was great but we reserved an outdoor table for a family members medical precaution but were told that those reservations weren’t guaranteed. Confused as to why you can reserve a specific type of table if the restaurant has no intention of honoring it

The lady who was hosting was very rude. She did not let me speak when we arrived. I had made a reservation on OpenTable. The server was very nice and the food was very good. Honestly, it would have been nicer if we seated ourselves as that lady was very off putting. I had just driven a long way to have dinner with my son and daughter and just wanted to leave when I met her. There really is no need to be so rude!!

Where else in NYC can you try a dozen or more different types of oysters and try a new craft beer or two at the same time? The food (besides the oysters) is always good, the service friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere unpretentious.

Very disorganized hostess. They don't honor reservations. Food was okay. The waiter was nice but forgot my main meal because of a printer issue. He did comp my drink and my oysters but still not a pleasant experience overall.
