YAY, we have Japanese food at the Far South Coast. That is just awesome news. We were super excited to try Umi-Ko Izakaya and were not disappointed. We love Japanese food and have tried many restaurants around the world. Umi-Ko was great. Food was beautiful, delicate and carefully made. We had to have sushimi and were really impressed by the delicacy of the fish combined with the condiments. The dishes aren’t large, but they are intricate and very high quality. In true Japanese style, it’s not quantity but quality that matters. This restaurant is lovely and we are so delighted it’s in our backyard. We will be back.

Food and service was very good. Look forward to going back and trying more from the menu. Only problem was being sat near a cold storage room with staff repeatedly opening its door.

Outstanding food for our table of 5. Service was also very good given the number of patrons. Loved the warm sake. Given the above, our only query is why keep the old tables and poor plastic chairs! We shall definitely return and help pay for better chairs and ambience ...

Every dish we tried we would have again. Food was well presented, good size - both entree, main & dessert. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant!

Tried to book for earlier booking, but got last one, 8.30. When we arrived was emptying out and we ordered straight away, ten minutes later, not even 9 o clock, we were asked if we would want anything afterwards.when hadn’t even got our meal, cos kitchen was closing. Just felt like we were being hurried out so they could close.

It was ok. Service was ok, and the food and drinks came out really fast, but some dishes just didn’t hit the mark- the octopus and the teriyaki chicken were a miss. We did like the beef tataki and the sashimi, the broccolini side and the ramen were fantastic, and the dumplings were good too. It’s good, but not great, and I probably wouldn’t insist on friends/family visiting making a booking. The decor is awesome though.

We really enjoyed our night with family. The food we great. The only drawback (not the fault of the restaurant) were the headlights from the car park across the road. Didn’t spoil our overall enjoyment though.

It’s great for the area but unfortunately the service was quite bad. I’m 9 months pregnant and couldn’t comfortably squeeze between the tables to sit in the chair as they were so close together. The guy that seated us moved the table forward an inch and then walked away dismissively. The food was okay but average compared other ramen places, especially considering the price. Had to return after paying as we realised when looking at the receipt we were charged for something we didn’t order. Would be okay if you want to just go in and order only a ramen, although for $24 a bowl it was very little pork.

Food was incredible and so delicious! We had 6 dishes (Karage Chicken, Broccolini, Gyoza’s, Tempura tuna, Pork katsu curry andTeriyaki chicken) and every single dish did not disappoint! Service was fantastic and the atmosphere was just brilliant!! Cannot wait to go back and so happy Merimbula has a restaurant like this.

Food was fresh but extremely small portions for prices charged. We paid way too much for just enough food for 2, a glass of wine and a soft drink.
