Tupelo Honey is a revival of Southern food and traditions rooted in the Carolina Mountains we call home. We craft brunches, lunches and suppers that bring family and friends around the table and allow for conversations and cocktails to linger longer than usual. Please arrive on time with all members in your party present. We will cancel reservations 15 minutes after the scheduled time. The combining of separate reservations will not be honored. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Great choice for our monthly dinner club. We had a party of 7 (6 adults and a 2 yo). Servers were friendly and attentive. Dinner choices ranged from salads to shrimp (spicy) and rice. Very good meals with plenty of food. We will definitely visit again.

Food and drinks were great. Server was great! Seemed under staffed though. Had a reservation but hostess didn’t seem to know where to seat us although there were at least 8-10 visible open and set tables. Didn’t get seated till 15 minutes after reserved time. But once we were sat everything was great.

We had a very nice visit on Mother’s Day. I had made an online reservation for 5 at 12:45. Due to illness, I called that morning to see if they could change our reservation to 2 people at 1:00. They were very friendly and accommodating to me. We walked right in at 12:55. Our wait staff took care of us quickly, my delicious mimosa arrived within minutes. Our food was very good and did not take long to arrive. I had the traditional chicken and waffles and my husband had the smothered chicken. They accommodated our requests easily. I would definitely go again and recommend this Tupelo Honey as a must visit in downtown Des Moines.

The various chicken and waffles were pretty good. They used to have really thick, fluffy biscuits to go with their fabulous jam. But they changed their recipe and now they are small and really dense. I won't get them again. Unfortunately that was the main thing that kept bringing us back. The drinks are really over priced for Des Moines too.

Unfortunately the restaurant was filled with Prom kids. They were extremely noisy and we could not hear each other across the table to carry on a conversation. We have always had excellent food but last night was a disappointment. My mahi mahi was so over done that it was very dry and my husband said his shrimp was also.

First off, my husband got the pork shoulder and he said it was good. But I got the chicken strips for my meal and was so disappointed. They were ridiculously small, especially for the amount of dips that came with them. The picture on menu was very deceiving. No bigger than my finger, dry and over fried, tasteless. Service was good.

We got there early and they had no problem seating us. It was not packed and plenty of seating available at that time. Our waitress was a little slow to show up but was good. Food was excellent and loved the atmosphere. Def recommend the biscuits!

Waited 15 mins after being seated before the waitress approached the table. Long waits to receive pop and a margarita ordered an appetizer and our food at the same time food came out before the appetizer. In special requests section of their reservations page I asked for a piece of their pecan pie with a simple note after we were done eating and was never addressed or brought up. Definitely had higher hopes and expectations for an establishment that puts out that type of perception only realizing it is indeed not what it is made out to be.

The kitchen and bar were both way behind. The wait staff struggled to keep up and we were there for 30 months before we ordered and there for 60 min before food came out. Our server hustled but there’s no way around getting this far behind.

Early lunch on a week day. We were the first diners in the door shortly after 11 am. Raven was our server - she is stellar. The fried green tomato appetizer is a must! There are 4 thick slices of tomato on this dish, so two diners could share it. We had the shrimp and grits and a breakfast skillet for our entrees - both excellent. Also each had the spicy Bloody Mary, which was great. We will be back often.

Fantastic chicken. Service staff was pleasant and punctual. Food and drink were great. Open table app made it easy to reserve our table, have good meal, and get to our event at the Civil Center with time to spare.

This was the second time we've eaten at this restaurant. I tried the peach & pineapple porch-sipper which was delightful! Felt like something I could sit on my deck drinking on a hot summer day. For an appetizer I tried the cup of sausage & beer gumbo which tasted fantastic and had just the right amount of spice to it. My main meal was the classic chicken and waffles. Never had this combination before and I'm definitely doing it again! Delish! For dessert I had the banana pudding and the small serving was just the right amount. I'd have it again, but I've had better before. Our server was attentive in all of the right ways. Stopped by just enough and at perfect times to keep up with our needs. Very friendly. Would definitely recommend anyone give this place a try!

Food was really good. Service was lacking. It was busy due to an event at the Des Moines Civic Center and the Event Center. It felt like we were rushed, like they couldn’t get us out fast enough. We were in and out within 30 minutes. No desert offered, just blah personality of the server.

Disappointed that some of the menu items were no longer available. I ordered the mahi mahi. It was good but a very small portion for the price. Brussels were good, crispy potatoes needed to be cooked a bit longer because they were hard inside.

This was my 2nd time eating at this restaurant. The first was when they first opened in 2022, so it took me a year and a half to get back there. 1st visit was better than the second. Food was okay, nothing spectacular, server was okay, not the most attentive, and it was a slow moving dinner. I might go back for one of the Happy Hours or brunch specials, but not sure. Definitely not for dinner before a show at the Civic Center unless I can go 3 hours prior to show start time.

It was a very long time to get anything… 40 minutes before we ordered after the last of our table sat down. Then it was another 40 before our food came out and it was cool… not warm and honestly not worth the money. We won’t be back.

The first four items we asked four on the menu they told us they were out of them. The server never cleared our table, she seemed very put out when I asked her for a refill. Unfortunately, the experience was not what our group of four was hoping for.

Great food and service. Early reservation ahead of Civic Center Preformance so went from wide open at 5:15 to packed at 6:30. Food was outstanding and served in very large portions. To go boxes all around after meal. Original white meat chicken with parmesan cheese potatoes was top notch. Glazed meat loaf was also great. No regrets but would ask to avoid being seated anywhere near front door as cold air sweeps in with the guests.

Service was not great. Wait staff seems annoyed that there are people dining and sighed every time we asked for anything. We’re out of ingredients for several beverages on New Year’s Eve and coffee was cold from earlier in the day. .Biscuits were old and hard first round so we asked for fresh batch and they were good. Food was lukewarm warm when served.

As usual the food was fantastic with the same menu. Our server accommodated our party of seven efficiently and courteously. Cocktails were a highlight.

We had a small business dinner and unfortunately came away disappointed. I have eaten here a few times and usually find the service to be decent and the food to be very good. On this visit, sadly the service was not good at all. Our server was not attentive and very slow. I don't think waters were refilled at all and nobody came to take appetizer plates away. We had to flag down the server to order drinks a few times. Unfortunately, on top of it all the food was not as good as usual. They were out of several items and what was ordered was a mixed bag. Things were generally overdone or came out somewhat cold. All in all, this was not a good experience.

I brought a friend for her birthday. She had had never been and I thought it would be fun to introduce her to a new restaurant. I had a delicious salad and my friend had the blueberry waffles with a side of bacon. I was given a small taste and it was amazing

Horribly overcooked chicken that had clearly been sitting a long while. Server was great and knew the kitchen gave us poor quality food so comped our appetizer. Appreciate her but we won’t be back due to how awful the food was.

Quick little celebration dinner as we came in to town from the Chicago area. The vibe was good, food excellent and the GM apologized for our food being late which I was not even aware of as we were all in good conversation at the table. To end the evening the GM provided a few free deserts. Happy to know this is a chain and we have one in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Will definitely come again.

The potatoes were good. The waffles in the chicken and waffles tasted freezer burned. The biscuits were average at best. The food was poorly seasoned. The steak was cooked to the correct temperature, but no salt. Salads were good, but we weren't provided with a choice of dressings. Highpoint was the service.

Although I feel this restaurant has lost its luster since opening in Des Moines, the biscuits were still delicious! I was visiting from out of state and dined with business colleagues for a casual dinner. Unique cocktails on the menu. Overall, positive experience.
