Tupelo Honey is a revival of Southern food and traditions rooted in the Carolina Mountains we call home. We craft brunches, lunches and suppers that bring family and friends around the table and allow for conversations and cocktails to linger longer than usual. Please arrive on time with all members in your party present. We will cancel reservations 15 minutes after the scheduled time. The combining of separate reservations will not be honored. We look forward to seeing you soon!

    Great choice for our monthly dinner club. We had a party of 7 (6 adults and a 2 yo). Servers were friendly and attentive. Dinner choices ranged from salads to shrimp (spicy) and rice. Very good meals with plenty of food. We will definitely visit again.

    Food and drinks were great. Server was great! Seemed under staffed though. Had a reservation but hostess didn’t seem to know where to seat us although there were at least 8-10 visible open and set tables. Didn’t get seated till 15 minutes after reserved time. But once we were sat everything was great.

    We had a very nice visit on Mother’s Day. I had made an online reservation for 5 at 12:45. Due to illness, I called that morning to see if they could change our reservation to 2 people at 1:00. They were very friendly and accommodating to me. We walked right in at 12:55. Our wait staff took care of us quickly, my delicious mimosa arrived within minutes. Our food was very good and did not take long to arrive. I had the traditional chicken and waffles and my husband had the smothered chicken. They accommodated our requests easily. I would definitely go again and recommend this Tupelo Honey as a must visit in downtown Des Moines.

    The various chicken and waffles were pretty good. They used to have really thick, fluffy biscuits to go with their fabulous jam. But they changed their recipe and now they are small and really dense. I won't get them again. Unfortunately that was the main thing that kept bringing us back. The drinks are really over priced for Des Moines too.

    Unfortunately the restaurant was filled with Prom kids. They were extremely noisy and we could not hear each other across the table to carry on a conversation. We have always had excellent food but last night was a disappointment. My mahi mahi was so over done that it was very dry and my husband said his shrimp was also.

    First off, my husband got the pork shoulder and he said it was good. But I got the chicken strips for my meal and was so disappointed. They were ridiculously small, especially for the amount of dips that came with them. The picture on menu was very deceiving. No bigger than my finger, dry and over fried, tasteless. Service was good.

    We got there early and they had no problem seating us. It was not packed and plenty of seating available at that time. Our waitress was a little slow to show up but was good. Food was excellent and loved the atmosphere. Def recommend the biscuits!

    Waited 15 mins after being seated before the waitress approached the table. Long waits to receive pop and a margarita ordered an appetizer and our food at the same time food came out before the appetizer. In special requests section of their reservations page I asked for a piece of their pecan pie with a simple note after we were done eating and was never addressed or brought up. Definitely had higher hopes and expectations for an establishment that puts out that type of perception only realizing it is indeed not what it is made out to be.

    The kitchen and bar were both way behind. The wait staff struggled to keep up and we were there for 30 months before we ordered and there for 60 min before food came out. Our server hustled but there’s no way around getting this far behind.
