Boston's last independent general bookstore, Trident Booksellers & Cafe is located on Newbury Street in historic Back Bay.

Since 1984, Trident Booksellers & Cafe has been providing Back Bay residents, students, and tourists with sustenance for the mind and body. Trident is the perfect place to catch up with friends, study for your exam, grab brunch, or browse our wide selection of books and magazines. So much character and warmth from both the ambience and those that work here. This is one of my favorite places to get lost in for a couple hours find a few bucks and eat some yummy comfort food.

Our food came cold and the drinks weren’t properly mixed and tasted terrible. I’ve eaten here before and loved it, but after this visit I will only go to purchase books. I usually don’t even leave reviews but I needed to after today.

Wait staff were robots. Irritated by questions about the menu…not helpful at all. We’re there to simply get the food and bring it to the table. So disappointed because the food was so good. The food deserves better wait staff! Felt as though we were left alone to a QR Code menu and “take your chances” on the dishes. Place was full, these comments will be disregarded until the foot traffic decreases someday and they’ll be forced to make some changes. But the food was excellent and it deserves better from those currently on the floor slinging it to customers.

I'm very concerned with the price hike at Trident, not worth the same food that was there three years ago for much less. Still the best, chill place to go for brunch with friends.

The food is always incredible, no matter the meal, breakfast lunch or dinner. My fav is the potato chuck wagon. They have amazing vegetarian and some vegan options! I often get takeout (it’s ready quickly and packaged so nicely), but when I do get to eat in, sitting upstairs is superior!

Overall this is a great, unique place to dine, and browse the great book collections! We consider it a gem in Boston. Service is very friendly, and accommodating. The good news is no one rushes you from table when finished. It’s popular and a regular go to. BTW there is added seating for dining on the 2nd level.

Food was good! We got breakfast. We had a reservation and we sat upstairs where it was quiet. Downstairs and outside is seat yourself. You scan a QR code now and order online, which is great for groups

Good combination of a bookstore and a cafe. There is an main floor eating area, a large counter, and an upstairs dining room. My only issues were that a hot dish was served cold, and the portion sizes are very large.

There’s an online waitlist that doesn’t really work. You order through QR code, self service water and condiments, and cannot order as a table. There was a 15 minute delay between the first persons main and the last (we all ordered within minutes). Honestly, you’re getting takeout to a table. I’ve been going for over 10 years and likely will not be returning for food.

We enjoyed breakfast there on a Saturday morning, and it was easy to find a table before 9am. Upstairs seating, overlooks Newberry Street.

The vibe is very cute - eating in a bookstore is very cozy. The food is good, but nothing really blew me away. I do always go back though as it’s an easy, comfortable food spot.

Ordering on the app was fine but using any charge card was a problem and we finally asked the waitress and she happily took our order. Otherwise everything was great considering It’s a bookstore, not fine dining

The new menu that they had on site omitted many things that were on the website menus. This was disappointing and very confusing. The menu is large, but they do not let you customize things which was very disappointing. Our server was very kind and very helpful. She did apologize for the inconsistencies, and did the best she could With our food order. The quiche that I had was just passable and fried potatoes were unnecessary. My friends bowl was also just average and the prices are very expensive. It is cramped and very noisy and it was much better when the upstairs space was available. overall I think they have way too many things on the menu and then without the option to customize it just becomes mediocre at best. It’s too bad because it’s such a great iconic spot, but the food just does not measure up and there’s so many other options in the area I probably will not come back or recommend it.

Very loud and way too crowded. The service could be better. We were sat in the middle of the room - felt very squished between tables. My coat was long so it was touching the floor when I put in the back of my chair. I tried to grab another chair but it was in the “way” of servers. Which wasn’t true. Every server pushed us around every time they passed by to bring our dishes. They could definitely use some training.
