                                Booked to celebrate our daughter's birthday. Our server was excellent and sooo sweet. Our group chose the set menu however the restaurant was out of the duck appetizer and instead substitute 2 wonderful dishes kale salad and brussel sprout, cauliflower dish. They allowed us to bring in an external cake without any surcharge for serving and also placed a candle and offered my daughter a birthday shot for the celebration. Really appreciated the experience, the food and service were wonderful and we would't hesitate to return.

                                We tried the omakase 7 course which was pretty good. Experience was ruined by super slow service and extremely loud vibe.

                                We come to Torafuku every time we are in Vancouver. Top notch cocktails and great food!

                                First of all this is a Michelin recommended restaurant, so one would expect the quality of service and food to be above average, and it certainly was not. And none of us are picky people by any regard. To start off we had a reservation for 7:45, and waited 25 minutes before we were seated, even though there was a different open 4 top visible the whole time. Not a huge deal. A cpl of us witnessed one of the servers, while setting the table, move the water glasses with her fingers on the inside of the glasses. I had a question about some wine, and the first server was new and didn't know about wine. Fair enough. A second server came over, who also didn't know anything about wine, who in turn sent the bartender over to answer my questions. Then when it was time to order our appies, we asked for the duck croquette, and were told that they ran out, then we ordered tartar, and were informed that they were no longer carrying it, and replacing it with the duck confit, but that they were out of it as well. Then as we ordered our mains, we were then informed that they were out of another dish, the roasted duck. A duck shortage it seems. Being out of certain food items happens, and I understand this, but to be out of 3 items at 8:30 PM on a Saturday night, and to not be informed before we order, at a Michelin reco restaurant seems a bit wild. Then at 9PM we were informed that it was last call for food, and we needed to order desert, before we had even received our mains. On top of all this, the music being played was not very good, or conducive to an upscale chill dining experience. Soulless radio pop music. The servers were all pleasant, and lovely people. They just seemed quite inexperienced. The food was tasty, and well presented, but none of it was amazing. We ate crudo, tempura, chicken wings, and brussell sprouts to start, and the sea bream, and short ribs for mains. I've eaten here in the past and throughly enjoyed it, so hopefully, this is just a hiccup.

                                My son and I did the Chef's Table and found there was not much flexibility. We could only choose 1-main and 1-desert. For $70/person we didn't see the value.

                                The 7 course tasting menu is not 7 courses and is very misleading. There are 4 appetizers, however, the main and the dessert are shared, and the portions are small (needed a burger after). On top of that, one of the ‘dishes’ is the side to the main, in our case, two bao buns for two people for their main dinner course. Food taste wise was okay, the best dish was the tartar and wasn’t amazing. The beef rib was cooked poorly, and was gristly. Really it’s 4.5 courses.

                                Duck was dry and unseasoned with no sauce. Cucumber salad was very under dressed. Brussel sprouts were good but decently basic. Service was slow and the menu was very overpriced for the quality.

                                Had the tasting menu for 2- if you want to try a bit of everything I would say this is of good value although I think next time I would order a la carte. Food and service were excellent. My friend and I sat at the communal table and my complaint are that the stools are uncomfortable after half an hour and also the side plates we ate on were not very big and not practical- beautiful side plates just not great for eating food off of
