Tonari is our Wafu Italian restaurant. WAFU means Japanese-style, so our menu is a Japanese take on Italian food. It originated in Japan through the love that the Japanese had for Italian food but wanted to incorporate some of their cultural flavors and ingredients to them. We at Daikaya Group and chef & owner, Katsuya Fukushima, are bringing this experience to you here in DC.

                                    Absolutely loved everything I tried. It’s a perfect and unexpected combo of my 2 favorite cuisines - Italian and Japanese. Cocktails are so delicious and full of flavor. I don’t understand why people complain here in reviews.

                                    Found this place to be quite average, the burrata here was decent but the pasta was not good, it felt like I had been served instant ramen, totally not worth the price of 20 bucks ! Some people might like it, this definitely wasn’t a place for me

                                    Absolutely an amazing experience! The staff were so friendly and accommodating which made for a great birthday celebration. Their happy hour had phenomenal specials and the upstairs dining room is so fun and unique. In our group of 6, everyone remarked how much they enjoyed their food and time there.

                                    The food was great. We were seated and then no server came to ask us for our order. We had to find a server to do this. Food was brought but then again no server checked on us or brought the bill. We were the only ones in the upstairs dining room so I think that’s why we were ignored.

                                    We had mini Caesar and roasted carrot starters, and their signature pizza - main ingredient corn - for main. I loved the house martini. Everything was delicious and the service was friendly and helpful. Italian/Japanese fusion, I guess, in DC Chinatown. Bravissimissimi!
