Thirty Bales is a celebration of everything Midwestern cuisine has to offer. We're an upbeat neighborhood restaurant bringing together bright personalities, bold recipes, clean ingredients and craft spirits and playing with the flavors that make the Midwest a place unlike any other.

If you're curious about our name, it comes from the legend of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. As the story goes, Babe had an appetite as big as Bunyan himself and is rumored to have eaten 30 bales of hay a day.

Like our restaurant's big blue spirit animal, we're a pack of people that lives to eat and drink. We're endlessly in love with the Midwest and its connection to seasonal ingredients grown close to home. It's what inspires our menu and our team. And it's what inspires us as we tell our own story with the flavors and spirits of the Midwest.

Great spot for happy hour and/or dinner. Wonderful ambience with both indoor and outdoor dinning. Owner is fantastic and very attentive to the guests. Food was great, service was spectacular. Plenty of parking just across the street in the city lot (free), even during the construction that is going on nearby. A true local gem!!!

A jewel of downtown Hopkins, Thirty Bales offers distinctive, delicious food, with offerings for every mood and diet. Beyond that we love the novel riffs on classic cocktails, warm waitstaff, and inviting ambience (lively but not raucous).

We have been for brunch and dinner. I personally like the variety on the dinner menu better but my daughter swears by the Sausage gravy and biscuits at brunch! Service is always top notch and parking is a breeze.

My lunch was very good. I had the Cubano with a salad. My two friends ordered the fish fry and thought it was poor, no taste, and too much breading.

Molly was a GREAT server. My friend is a chef and has restaurant industry experience so I almost never enjoy eating out with them. ;) BUT, when they said they wanted to go out for their birthday dinner, it was a no-brainer to choose Thirty Bales. They loved the pork chop on bone AND the risotto AND the bourbon cheesecake. Whew!!! For me, the short rib pot pie and apple crisp were their usual deliciousness. Oh, that Tiny Feet coffee <3 Thank you, Thirty Bales for always providing me with a great place to take all friends, picky foodies, just want a great experience, love locally sourced food. I'm not saying I moved to Hopkins because of Thirty Bales, but I will say that it's on my list of "why I love living here" list. <3

Thirty Bales is a neighborhood eatery that has good food, service and prices. The ambience is neither luxurious nor severe, simply comfortable. Service was attentive but not overbearing. All in all diner was enjoyable and tasty.

We have dined at Thirty Bales many times. Unfortunately, our most recent experience was a disappointment. The service was fine, as was the vibe. We had three entrees - the short rib pot pie was good, the short rib lasagna should have been warmer and the cauliflower tacos were not good at all. I've ordered these tacos before and liked them, but the ones I got in latest visit hardly had any cauliflower at all. The onion was totally overwhelming and I am not even sure what the onion was in because it is not even mentioned in the item description. It basically tasted like I was eating very strong onion tacos.

Stopped in with a friend for a midweek lunch. Staff was very friendly and attentive. There were several menu items that appealed but we both ended up with the wild rice soup. It was delicious! Not the thick version you see most often - it was a lighter offering with loads of veggies and great broth. Will definitely be coming back again to try other things. Great place if you want a nice meal where you can have a conversation without loud music.

This is our new favorite spot! The food is excellent and fresh. The service is wonderful and the wine list is thoughtfully curated. Get the bread pudding for dessert! It’s decadent!

As ALWAYS, the food was wonderful....nothing like the Bougie Bennie!!! And, Martha, Martha, Martha....its always fun catching up with Martha. Everyone at Thirty Bales is great, but Martha served us on our very first visit and we had so much fun we always request to be in her section. We also always try to bring friends who haven't been before and they are always impressed....yesterday was no exception!!! Keep it up!!!

Great dining experience in West Minneapolis…Mary Beth our waitress was amazing, all of her recommendations were spot on. Try dishes from across the menu: devilish eggs, Caesar salad, short rib lasagna, pickerel rice bowl, and the deserts are amazing….carrot cake and apple crumble. Will definitely dine again, A++ across the board.

The food tasted decent, but everything was way too much something….except for the rosemary mock tail, which was lacking rosemary. Wedge salad was waaaay over dressed. The bread for the chicken BLT was super soggy (perhaps with butter for toasting?), and the pasta was swimming in the bolognese sauce. The flourless cake desert was tasty, but honestly didn’t need mouse AND ice cream AND whipped cream. Happy there were GF options across the menu.

We had a lovely diner with an exceptional and attentive server. Our food was devoured and the only clink would be the walleye Sammy’s were good but meh….no tartar sauce. The booths were nice but the seats are a bit firm. We love 30 Bales and will be back. In a booth! No worries.

We come here regularly and it's always good. Marybeth takes great care of us and is very knowledgeable of the menu. My husband had the cavatappi special and loved it. I had the beet salad which was great. The chicken drumsticks are full size and always delicious and good for leftovers. Nice atmosphere and plenty of parking in the ramp across the street.

Great ambience, the food is fresh and SUPER good (get the bread pudding. Just do it.) ask Adam, the best bartender, for a drink, and he’ll hit it on the head the first time. Will be back for sure!

We enjoy going to Thirty Bales before concerts at the Hopkins Art Center. However our meals lack flavor..not savory. Last night two of us had a pasta special..spinach & cheese sauce w/sausage.sausage tasted like hamburger, heavy on garlic , but bland. Our service was very good. We may give it one more try.
