Fondé en 1920, The Waverly Inn a été rouvert en 2006 par le rédacteur en chef Graydon Carter du Vanity Fair, avec Emil Varda, ainsi que Sean MacPherson et Eric Goode (des hôtels Maritime et Bowery). We visited for our anniversary and got upsold by the waiter for every course, were clearly being rushed from our table, and were seated in between two parties who were talking on their phones for the majority of the evening. Given the price, it did not provide the ambiance or experience we were expecting (especially having noted in the reservation that it was our anniversary).

Went for Sunday brunch. We sat in the garden room which was so pretty and cozy with a fireplace. Food and drinks were great. My Bloody Mary was perfectly spicy. I had an omelette with its goat cheese and mushrooms that was cooked perfectly. My side order of toast was actually grilled and the taste was amazing. We also shared deviled eggs which were so tasty and creamy with a generous amount of caviar on top. Service was great and would definitely come back again.

If re-pouring your own wine passes your threshold for good service and if half-cooked enoki mushrooms in some sort of lemony sauce constitute haute cuisine, then this is your kind of place. On the positive side, ingredients were fresh, salads were excellent (albeit expensive) and the wine list is well-selected.

The food wasn’t very good! I had the vegan risotto, which was just okay, and my boyfriend had the chicken pot pie which was very bland. For the price, I would have expected much better food. My soda was flat, so I had to request another one. It was also so loud it was hard to hear.

We had gotten sick from the risotto, I think it was a bad mushroom or 2. Also, the wait staff immediately tells you that you have 1.5 hours at the table… I get it, it’s New York. But this is an upscale restaurant and the last thing I want to think about when first sitting down on a date is when I have to vacate the table.

This restaurant used to be a gem. Ambiance is still great, but the food and service are subpar. Half of our food was not cooked to the requested temperatures. Prices have increased considerably. Service was bad. Our server was rude and pushy. We didn’t feel welcomed. Also some of our party had to show proof of vaccination and others did not. No consistency.

Ambience is unparalleled. So cozy and beautiful. Food is very good but not great for the price. This is the sort of place you go when you want a good vibe and feel like throwing money around. The service was pretty subpar. The reviews that say the service is rushed are true—rushed and bordering on rude. It’s normal for your table to only be available for a limited time in NYC, but this was on another level. The server made no effort to make us feel welcome/comfortable. It was clear is singular goal was to get us in and out asap.

The Waverly Inn is one of the great restaurants in the world. the moment we arrived we were greeted warmly and given a choice of two different tables. The waiter took our drink orders immediately and brought them right away plus a big bottle of fizzy water. When I said my cocktail didn’t thrill me, our waiter made sure I was happy and fixed it immediately!! WoW! The bread&butter is amazing. The starters and entrees were impeccably timed and excellent. The service was spectacular, always available but never hovering. Lastly but not least, there is NO MUSIC!! Hooray!! You can have a conversation without shouting. . . a rarity in a NYC restaurant. Thank you thank you thank you to the owner, the staff and the restaurant gods that oversee the Waverly Inn for one of the most pleasurable dining experiences of my life. PS the interior and ambiance is absolutely stunning

Fine, good really, but generally overrated relative to the cost. I cook and eat out frequently and think that I have a reasonable perspective for context. My review is certainly relative to the price/value here as this is a very expensive restaurant. The food was quite good, but not excellent. My scallops were not fully hot when served ($61), crab cakes were good but nothing special ($52), for examples. Service was similar - meals did not come at the same time, which is not a big deal but more so when paying this much. They do have a great space and ambiance which makes up for a lot. Overall, if money is no object, great place to enjoy an evening. But there are all manner of restaurants that serve equal or better cuisine for much less money (4 people $360 before alcohol and gratuity, without ordering a lot).

There is was a large hair in my sons shrimp cocktail that he gagged on. I raised it to a waiter just and they took it away and immediacy brought another. They actually put 2 of the same shrimp on the new dish …little did they know I inspected and marked them strategically. My son just didn’t eat them. Then charged us full cost. No comp, no apology, nothing. A little shocking for a restaurant which cost $600+ for a table of 3 adults and a kid. Everything else was good but not great. Overall a let down

Food, atmosphere and service were great. The host went out of his way to seat us in the back garden which was arm and empty. Would definitely return - fireplace looked so inviting!

It was the first night in NYC and wanted a mellow, solid meal and this was great! It was cozy, the food good and the service better! We met people from London and it was just an inviting environment!

I booked an outdoor table ( not the patio) and I went on a day there it was 50 degrees for brunch. There is one heat lamp for the table that hangs overhead so be prepared for the bottom part of your body to be a little cold. I’ve gone to other restaurants that have done a great job of making their outdoor dining a nice experience this is not one of those places. Here, it’s literally tables on the pavement. If the gravel is wet then your shoes are filthy. I ordered the vanilla and orange French toast which was severely undercooked and doesn’t taste like vanilla or orange. When I would pick it up with my fork it would fall thru, the middle was complete mush. The outside was seared so it looked cooked, but was not. The Maine lobster grilled cheese is a panini sand which that comes with a tangy serving of tomato soup and home made chips. If you are coming for the indoor/Instagram experience it does look nice, but just know the food is not great. The staff was very nice and friendly.

Cena di San Silvestro, tavolo minuscolo perfetto per tre persone ma noi eravamo in 6. Il mio pollo con verdure era banalissimo e il conto era sproporzionato ( e siamo abituati ai ristoranti di Milano e Brescia dove i prezzi sono altissimi). Mah non so se ci tornerei..

We came to the Waverly Inn, right after we were married at City Hall. We'd had a date at the Waverly In when we first started dating, and it was a special evening for us. So, we thought it the perfect place to celebrate our wedding. The staff and management were so kind and so welcoming. They gave us a really great table, and even sent a bottle of champagne to celebrate our wedding. The food was delicious. The service was easy and perfectly paced. We had a wonderful time and are so glad we chose the Waverly Inn, to have our wedding dinner!
