We had lunch at the watering hall on Mother’s Day. We love the open air restaurants. And having a nice view of the rhinoceros and giraffes while we ate, we made a reservation and receded. Promptly service was great. Highly recommend.

The service was slow but friendly. Location is great and the food okay. The side salad was just lettuce and not many choices of salad dressing. It is still the best food at Safari Park.

Beautiful view. Very limited menu but its in the Dan Diego Safari Park so you cant expect an elebrate menu. Ambiance was excellent. Margarita flight was fun. If you are visiting the Safari Park, I recommend making a reservation to eat here.

Could have had better structure for seating, they didn’t really have a spot for wheel chairs so where we were seated we couldn’t move our chairs back much because of wheel chairs. Ambiance was beautiful service was fine. They did forget our appetizer and didn’t bring it until after our meals. In the midst of eating (we had a reservation) they were moving a lot of chairs and tables prepping for a wedding which kind of ruined the view because it was just chairs and tables stacked and workers walking back and forth.

Our family dined at The Watering Hole while visiting the SD Zoo Safari Park this week; while we were quite underwhelmed and a little disappointed by the minimal menu selections and slow service, we thoroughly enjoyed the ambience and view of animals we were able to observe from the ‘grass lawn area. The hostess was polite and allowed us to charge our phones while we dined, that was a much appreciated pleasantry. Overall, The restaurant was not over crowded, we were able to easily make same day reservations; however, we ultimately left unsatisfied by the open-faced tuna melt served with stale chips and the kid-sized solo cups of beverages. It’s a great place to take a break between safaris, but I think we’ll stick to sack lunches next time!

Great table and view for our 43rd anniversary lunch. Only question I have is if they ever saw my open book messages or looked at the tags for example, our anniversary. There was never any response or acknowledgment from the restaurant. Great experience though. We will be back!

We love this restaurant but this experience wasn’t great. The food took a very long time and they were out of many things on the menu. The service was great as always and we will return just feedback on the experience.

We arrived early for our 2:30 reservation but the hostess was amazing! We did have to wait a bit but she was fully aware that we decided to wait instead of leaving and come back & found a perfect spot for us near the grass so our toddler and 10year old nephew could play. The service was not great, although friendly we had to wait quite a bit for our drinks (food came first, which is unusual) & I had to go to the front to ask for the tab. It was not busy so I’m not sure what the reason for the less than amazing service. The view made up for everything and we all said we would for sure come back if for nothing else the view.

The ambiance is great! Service is slow , even though it was not too busy. A soft drink is $5 and it’s a small plastic cup . I ordered a pulled pork sandwich , it was much better than other food I’ve had at Safari Park but I chose the side salad instead of chips and the salad was just a spring mix , looked like it was right out of a bag, nothing else in it . A soft pretzel was ordered and it was very good , although smaller and less expensive would be better.

Making a reservation was nice i requested a table with a view and thats what we got very happy ! The food was great my guests loved there sandwiches. I had the tuna melt 5 stars delicious i chose the side salad could add more veggies to it just arugula and dressing. The pasta dish was delicious too! Dessert we chose the chocolate brownie, ice cream eh ok ! Loved the atmosphere weather was great animals were out and service was nice! Highly recommend eating here :)

Great little spot. Nice little grassy area for kids to play by the overlook. The sandwiches were good, the side salads that they came with consisted of lettuce and dressing - that could be improved. Over all I would eat here again. Making a reservation was easy.

The only glitch was on the open table reservation. They did not have it. But they seated us anyway when I showed my email. We had a wonderful meal overlooking the lovely savanna.

We are life long members of the zoo. We were looking forward to treating ourselves and friends to a nice lunch and spectacular view at the Watering Hole restaurant. We made reservations on a quiet Thursday and arrived a little early. We saw several tables with a lovely view of the park. We were told those were saved for the trucks and we were seated with no view by the hostess stand. Our drinks were tasty but the bartender was rude. We ordered sandwiches that were dry and my side salad was a handful of leaves on the plate. I do not recommend this restaurant. The view tables are not available to people who make reservations. The food is below average. A better plan would be skip the restaurant get a beer and sit on the lawn in the front.

Staff and Hostess went beyond to accommodate us. Delicious food. 180 degree view. Felt like we were actually in Africa!

Arrived about 10 minutes early for our 12:45 reservation, and got seated immediately (on a Monday). The view is spectacular, the service was quick, and the Chicken sandwich was awesome ... the wine too !!!!

Thanks for the manager and Vu for making my mothers 79 th birthday awesome and memorable. she was very happy for having a great view. the day could not have been more perfect . we were all appreciative for the service , delicious food and ambience. we would love in the future to see hamburgers as part of their menu.

Love the Safari Park. The hours need to change, stay open later, at least until sunset.

Despite having a reservation, we had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated. Frustratingly, the hostess kept seating walk-ins who arrived after us before we were seated.-- she said they were just being taken to standing tables on the grass , but they all had chairs and ordered food before we did. This is not the first time I have had trouble with reservations there. The last time I went, we have reserved three tables of 4 or 6 persons. We were the first to arrive when the restaurant opened-- no one else was there. However, the manager insisted on changing us to one long table of 14 in the absolute back, instead of smaller tables with better views in the front. We had not planned to sit all together and didn't care if the tables were next to each other. If it wasn't such a nice view, I would never go back, but you cannot beat the ambience.

It is an amazing opportunity to enjoy a drink and a meal while overlooking an African Savanah without traveling 24 hours to another continent! Stein was a fun and personable server! The SDZWA is doing such important work... it is a pleasure to aid in their efforts by visiting their parks!

The watering hole is truly an experience. The ambience there is just amazing. When we were seated, we were happy to find that we had an excellent view of the animals while enjoying our lunch. There was a nice breeze, and we were in the shaded area. The staff was fabulous. Our waiter came around, just enough to make sure that we had everything we needed without being overly intrusive. I had a tuna melt. It was so good. It really hit the spot! My husband had the grilled chicken sandwich and he said it was really good.

We had a great server on 4/9. Haven’t had service like that in a long time. She really made our whole experience!! Great time.

While the view was nice, our salads were inedible and the chicken tasted off. While it was a nice place to take a few pics, we wont be dining here again.

It took FOREVER to get our cocktails. We had an appetizer and were halfway through our meals before they finally arrived. I even saw our server go over and help the bartender. I think they might need some efficiency lessons because I have no idea why it took 30-40 minutes for two mixed drinks and a beer. The food was good though!
