The Highlander Hotel and Supper Club are back! Join us to experience our modern take on the 1967 Supper Club menu, with a grand brunch buffet every Sunday, a classic supper club steak and seafood menu every Friday and Saturday night, and a simple pool and pub menu Sunday through Thursday.

The Highlander Supper Club was built in 1967. The hotel, ballroom, and pool followed in 1974. For the next 30 years, both experienced extraordinary success playing host to celebrities like Micky Mantle, Joan Baez, and Arnold Palmer, arguably becoming one of the most popular entertainment, event, dining, and hotel destinations in Iowa history! The next 20 years were a time of slow decline and by 2019 the icon was in serious distress.
Now, The Highlander Hotel has been reinvented as a chic boutique urban resort, the only independent hotel in Iowa City, and the number one traveler-ranked hotel on Trip Advisor for two years running. The Supper Club shuttered for two decades but has new life!

We were expecting a brunch buffet but they ran out of food. We had a plated dinner instead but it was still disappointing.

First time we dinnered there, Mother's day brunch. Food was almost gone, not the level of quality, and did not meet our expectations. Being this was a packed out bruch, we are willing to return to try a normal time of dinning

Mother’s Day brunch was good, but several of the items listed on the menu weren’t there, like turkey, bbq pork Mac n cheese, and Texas toast. However, mimosas were included which was a nice surprise we weren’t expecting. Our server was very nice and good with refilling drinks, and the desserts were great. I would come back if everything on the menu was included

Not remotely ready for prime-time. We booked this for graduation dinner and were sorely disappointed. It took over two hours to eat, the food was uninspired and cold, our drinks were never once refilled. Skip this.

The food was just ok, descriptions did not match the actual food brought to us, bar slow, substituted items without explanations. I think they overbooked due to graduation weekend and couldn’t keep up.

I love the Highlander Hotel but thought they could have done a little more to create a nice dining atmosphere. Just a few banquet tables were set up with the buffet in the middle so it was okay but nothing that created a nice atmosphere. I liked the eggs, breakfast potatoes, and mac and cheese. The biscuits were good but not the gravy-someone needs to look into this because it's very easy to make the gravy tasty and with a normal consistency. So overall, I was satisfied with the meal. However, I was so disappointed in the desserts. My mom had strawberry/rhubarb pie that used canned fruit and wasn't homemade and I had crepe cake that was dry. Desserts are easy to make homemade and not expensive to make. Please upgrade your desserts. Also, you couldn't just grab your dessert; they had to plate it for you which would have been fine if it didn't take so long, so there was a long weird line to get a crappy dessert. For $32 or something per person, I think I could have gotten a comparable meal for two people at Perkins and with way better pie. I hate to be so harsh but the Highlander can and should do better.

This was my first time visiting the supper club a.k.a. The new IRP. And first of all, I would like to say the interaction with all the employees the host our waitress was great and they were very attentive. The food was all delicious and still as great as the original location. my only criticism is where they currently have the buffet does not flow very well for guests should not be set up in a circle in my opinion. Also, I strongly dislike the use of the banquet room. It felt like we were eating at a wedding reception, and there was no natural light, I would recommend clearing out the space out by the front bar and where they have some couches and making that the dining area it’s so much more prettier than a huge banquet room. There’s natural light a nice bar where you could wait and have a drink before your tables ready I know they recently just started so there might be some minor hiccups, but I don’t think we’re gonna be back anytime soon because of the whole banquet, room thing and no windows it made for a very uncomfortable dining experience.
