The origin of The Story Café emerged from the mantra “There is a story in everything”
So in 2018 when we fell upon a 30 year old warehouse, we saw the potential to transform the abandoned space into a warm, hospitable, unique eatery. Through consistent innovation, research and dedication we managed to blend our affinity for coffee, music, food and antique into a ambient mélange of vintage and nostalgia. Today, we proudly present our eatery to newcomers and are considered a staple in the Richmond community!

This is probably my fourth of fifth time eating here. The food is usually a little slow. For the money you're paying, the service is a little slow and is not great at this price range. Here are some examples from yesterday's service. 1. I got my drink and asked for warm water for my guest. Our table received the clam chowder and mussels, no water for my guest. At that point I had to ask the person delivering our food. 2. The server didn't offer suggestions on the menu. It's an expensive menu so at other finer dining places they provide suggestions. 3. After finishing the majority of my food I asked to box a couple items... so at this point I assume the server would ask if we would like dessert or maybe the bill? I was wrong, two container were dropped off and the server disappeared. I had to wave him down (I'm thinking, I must be in a self-serve diner)... 4. The server should smile, and be more welcoming. Isn't this part of the job?. so will I recommend this to someone else?... maybe if you like paying for an expensive meal with lower service then sure. Otherwise, the food can be found in other expensive place with top notch service. so... just head downtown and pick another fine dining place.

So nice to get great friendly service and excellent food. Went to celebrate a girlfriends 80th birthday and had the greatest time. Entertainment was wonderful! He played guitar and sang beautifully. Thanks for making our dining experience so much fun!

We had the Bacon jam, Escargot, and Scallops with Lemon & Parsley Gremolata (spring menu) for our appies, followed by Housemade Lasagna, Beef pappardelle and Shrimp Scampi Linguine. All was made very well, portion sizes were good. For dessert we shared the Crème Brûlée and Lemon Belgian Waffle. The waffle is highly recommended!

We were visiting from Tacoma, WA for my 53rd birthday. I’m elated to have found this gem. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. This was the perfect dining experience and highly recommend our friends to visit.

Great experience for my first time. Went her for a business dinner with a friend. Ordered just what the server recommended; the clam chowder to start, followed by the beef wellington. Both were delicious!!! What made the night even better was we lucked out that we came on a Wednesday and it was half-price bottles of wine that night. I highly recommend if in Richmond, or the lower mainland for that matter. Can't wait to come back.

had a little issue with our table at first but this was sorted out. Waitress was very pleasent accommodating and a nice smile. Food was excellent, appies were very yummy. As it was our anniversary we wanted to experience a nice memorable evening, and this was a very nice evening. Thank you

For proximity to airport and in comparison to other nearby options, this is a great spot to catch up and meet when in transit. A few more vegetarian options would improve the experience.

The food and service were excellent. The house wine was good. The evening was very pleasant except for the intrusions of technology. I had to get a new app, register and give lots of info Including my credit card number.This was not cool and took much longer than a phone call. Not all customers are good at typing into phones. When it came time to pay with my credit card, the machine asked me to tap my card before I had determined the tip I wished to give. I was not presented any options to leave a tip. In my opinion, leaving a custom tip should be the main option. Anyway, more time was needed for the server to learn how best I could leave the tip. The problem was remedied with a second transaction. Technology can be very useful, but annoying and time-consuming at the same time.

Less musical instruments then last time I visit, the singer compare to last time, his performance was not as good, off key a lot this time. Hope he can practice more 😅

First time at this place, went based on a recommendation. Place is very small and parking is limited (close to RiverRock Casino). There is a paid lot but it is not apparent as it just looks like a dirt area across the street. Went in they said they don’t have any tables and we would have to wait 2 hrs. Looking around, the place was pretty empty but they said they were waiting on people who have reservations. So I decided to check for a reservation online. I was able to make that reservation for 7pm which was 30 mins from the time I got there (credit card required to book). I found it odd that I was told 2 hrs when in fact they had an open table in 30 mins. They did seat us at 7pm at a very awkward table for 2 nestled between other tables where their back was facing us. If someone stood up their chair would slide right into our table. This table happened to also be right in front of their only bathroom, so everyone had to squeeze by us every time they wanted to go to the bathroom. There were very long pauses between food and the server checking in. Had water most of the night bc no one asked us about drinks. Our appetizers were delicious, but they ran out of duck for my main. I asked the waiter what he recommends and I went with the beef Wellington on that recommendation. I was hesitant as I have had this dish many times before and I did not want to be disappointed. Unfortunately it came out and was under cooked. I was hoping for mid rare but it was more rare to blue rare.. I asked for a quick re heat to bring up temp and it was brought out beyond well done.. so much so that the beef had a crisp to it. Unfortunately I had to just send it back and leave it at that. They brought us a dessert to compensate for my meal which was a very nice cheesecake. In terms of noise it was extremely loud as we were surrounded by a couple of large groups and I found myself shouting at times to speak over a 2 foot table. The food was the only redeeming quality of our night.

A very good time overall 4 stars. 5 for the area I think We dined outside. Time of year made it cold for myself and my wife. Inside is very small so not a great option Food was great but not great over the top Noisy street noise was not a bonus to us Service was excellent, food was quick and hot. Fantastic

Not happy with how the French Onion soup came, it was warm so I told the waitress. She took it back and I expected that they would replace it with a new and hot one. It was hot alright but was very surprised and disappointed that it was my old soup. I knew it was my old soup as I had already eaten 1/4 of the cheese bread on the soup and when I got it back from the waitress, it was the same size of the cheese bread. Obviously, they just reheated it in the microwave.

For an unexpected stay, and reading the reviews for this gem, it lived up to it. Accurate review of most tender pork chop, lasagna, braised beef ribs and melt in your mouth beef wellington. Calamari for an app were big and thick. Outdoor heated patio was cozy.

Food is top notch as always. Service was lacking and very slow, always had to hunt down our server for everything, took her 20mins to get us a machine to pay (the payment machine was just lying there).

My experience was amazing. Love restaurants that are dog friendly on the padio! Our server was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menus. Never had to ask for water. They always filled our cups:)

This is a great place for any occasion, the food is top notch and although may seem pricey for the fairly casual seeming setting your in, is worth every penny. They must have an amazing bartender because the drink list is amazing and such creative options, all of which were hard to choose from, definitely something for everyone in there. I love that they’ve incorporated their outdoor patio for all year round, giving more people a chance to be served. It was about 7c the evening we sat outside and with the heaters going I didn’t even need my jacket, a sweater was just comfortable. Will definitely come back, can’t wait to try their brunch!

Just found this place on google maps and thought we would give it a go as we had an unscheduled layover in a nearby hotel compliments of West jet. The accomodation and meal made up for a crap day of holdups and missed international flights. We were able to use the meal vouchers provided by West Jet too. Thanks team. Food was fresh and tasty and the ambience interesting
