The Statesman is a Neighborhood Restaurant and Bar located in downtown Austin inspired by the Heroic Age of our country’s founders and the spirit of Texas' own impresarios, the concept aims to be a refuge that transcends the mere act of dining - a place where customers quickly become regulars, regulars become friends and the venue becomes the room where it happens. We feature a beautiful private dining room and large patio on historic West 6th.

Bad execution do not recommend Bad food. Worst salad I ever had. Food did not come out together. Served a beef burger versus a vegan burger to a vegan and was going to charge for it with tip.

I am not too fond of giving reviews when it comes to food, but I will say statesman really stood out for me . They have a really good burger which I think everyone should try . The texture and taste of the beef is very good and offer real value for the money , and their drinks are well made . The service is top notched as the servers are very attentive and also very familiar with the menu and the best options based on your preference . Highly recommend.

Absolutely wonderful! As one of the neeest places in Austin to open, this is one you shouldn’t miss! Food offerings are plentiful and service is attentive without being intrusive. We will be back!

We went here for my mother’s birthday brunch. We loved how cute the decor was. The host, waitress and bartender were all so welcoming and accommodating. My family and I had the lobster eggs Benedict and it was phenomenal. The lobster was very fresh and the sauce was perfect. I also tried the ricotta pancakes and breakfast potatoes. Everything was delicious.

Drinks were really good and good energy but unfortunately the service was very very poor. We saw our server once and I had to walk up the the server stand to get our check.

Great food, great energy and great service! What a fun new find for a fun night downtown. We started with the fantastic shishito peppers and ended with the delicious cheesecake and everything in between was delicious. Great night! We’ll be back soon!

What a fabulous evening. Everything from start to finish was perfect. The food was amazing, we loved the appetizers of shrimp cocktail, eggs, rolls, and dates! The filet was one of the best we have ever tasted. Service. Was outstanding. I would recommend this restaurant for the perfect experience.

The food was fabulous. The vibes and ambiance were great. It’s only downfall is being on west 6th in the middle of all the bars, unless you are looking to go out after dinner.

We came in for the weekend brunch and thoroughly enjoyed the food and overall experience. We started off with the picarones and grilled sourdough, which were big hits at our table, especially the brandy jam. The majority of us decided to go with the traditional Stately Plate and the restaurant absolutely nailed it. Our other guest had the Eggs Benedict and said it was excellent. The restaurant decor creates a warm, welcoming vibe. I highly recommend the restaurant.

Everything was absolutely beautiful - from the lighting, decor, press for champagne button, floral dishes, glasses and gold cutlery. We ordered the mozzarella sticks, Parker house rolls, Mac & cheese (our favorite), lamb bolognese and chicken. Everything was great. Will be back for more date nights! Can’t wait to try the cocktails when I’m not pregnant.

Solid on the food-we had the mushroom tagliatelle, chicken Parmesan, and a burger loaded with bacon/peppers/cheese—accompanied by thick, delicious French fries. Service was satisfactory, but our server was a little slow bringing wine with dinner and boxes for packing up. The negative part of our visit was the noise-there were only 3 other tables occupied in our section. Some of those diners (who were already loud) decided that singing along to “Uptown Girl” was a good idea—we couldn’t hear each other over the din and left. Statesman has good food but its quality as a dining room is compromised by the open front “west 6th St. Bar atmosphere” that permeates its interior.

Great meal. Will be back. Wife had chicken Parmesan which was one of the best we’ve had - I had chicken paillard also fantastic. Decor is beautiful. Well done.

Came with a party of 5 around 8:00 on a Friday evening. It wasn’t crowded or busy and we were sat immediately. Our waitress was not friendly, welcoming or kind, it almost felt like we were an inconvenience to her. We had the deviled eggs and a few pasta dishes. The food was good but nothing to write home about. Overall, a very average experience.

Incredible experience. The food was amazing… from all the appetizers we shared to each of our entrees. Everything was spot on from the minute we walked in. Our server, Rachel, was very knowledgeable and made great suggestions, plus she was kind and fun! Both managers we met were accommodating and welcoming! Highly recommend The Statesman

Horrible table in the back of the restaurant - that was completely dead. Asked for a smaller table at front of restaurant- but (ironically) was told there was a larger party waiting for it. If you’re offered a bad table.. leave.

I made the reservation for my friends bachelorette party. When we arrived, the hostess was so friendly. After that it went downhill. We sat for about 20 minutes before anyone came over and it was a manager who took our order,then we waited another 15 minutes and she came back over and asked if anyone had brought us our drinks and we said no. by the time we ordered our food we had to leave in about 40 minutes so we asked them to rush it because we had already been sitting for nearly an hour before we even got our drinks, the food came out quickly when we explained how long we waited to a second manager. We had 2 waitresses come over at different points, and they were both incredibly rude. Overall it was an awful experience and I cannot express enough how much of a waste of money this was.

Had the pleasure of having my Birthday dinner here, after some great cocktails we had the calamari and fresh oysters which were awesome! Each of us ordered something different for dinner between pasta, filet steak and chicken parmesan. Big thanks to Craig and the staff for making it a great night. Looking forward to next visit!

The Statesman has been open for two months, and after hearing so much about it in local articles, I finally decided to check it out. The entrance runs along West 6th, stepping through its doors feels like entering another world. The interior is dimly lit and cave-like, adorned with booths along the edges, a central bar with cozy velvet seats, and a tucked-away private dining room towards the back. The attention to detail, even in the bathrooms, is commendable. While they currently lack a happy hour menu (hopefully, they'll introduce one soon), my companions and I each ordered an entree along with two appetizers to share, accompanied by individual drinks and paid about $60 before tip. Our server was attentive, graciously accommodating my friend's request to exchange her too-spicy margarita for a refreshing spritzer cocktail. Cocktails are priced at $18, with entrees starting at $24. I thoroughly enjoyed the mushroom pasta, while the burger was equally delicious, accompanied by perfectly cooked steak fries--crunchy on the outside, yet soft and piping hot inside. The appetizers, including the calamari and three pieces of fried mozzarella, were flawlessly fried. I've heard that the calamari is gluten-free, which could be highlighted to assist those with dietary restrictions, though it's worth noting that it may not be entirely celiac-disease friendly if it shares oil with flour-battered items. The pricing aligns with the area, and the ambiance is charming, with elegant plates and golden utensils adding to the experience. Convenient paid street parking ensures accessibility for diners. Overall, The Statesman offers a satisfying dining experience worth exploring. We enjoyed speaking with one of the owners, Billy, for a minute and understood his passion and intent with the restaurant. We hope it does well!

Have dined here 3 times and all have been phenomenal. Today was first time doing Brunch and I see why that is catching on…a great brunch spot is much needed in Austin. We were told about the honeydew mimosa by our server and were a little apprehensive, but thankfully listened. That expanded my mimosa horizons and will be doing that again. Our server was very attentive and made great recommendations. We were also a little apprehensive about a seafood platter and again very thankful for that recommendation. Apparently the oysters are from Maine and they do taste much better than the local brine type taste I’m used to…very fresh and the homemade dropper sauce they make is perfect for oysters on the half shell. Salmon tar tar, shrimp, and lobster on that platter were all good -especially with the spicy sauce. For main course we got stately plates, eggs Benedict, and my favorite the steak and eggs. That steak- just wow! The other two times I’ve been have been for a date night dinner (but the menu has since changed so I need to re try) and a 15 person corporate dinner in which my customers left VERY happy. I haven’t had anything less than a 5 star experience yet and definitely will keep coming back.

I was so disappointed with this restaurant. The food was very bland, and even when we didn’t finish the deviled eggs because they were so watery and tasteless, there was no offer to refund. The Cacio e Pepe has zero flavor. And the actual restaurant looks like a pop up and not permanent. A lot of negative/empty space with little character/decor. Not worth a $300 meal…

The food was not good. For the prices, it should’ve been much higher-quality I think some of the kinks still need to be worked out in the kitchen One of our dishes was so undercooked that we had to send it back.

We had a reservation for 9 pm. We got there at 9:07. The front desk told us that we would be seated in 15 minutes. We waited at the bar for a drink. After a while, we realized that it was 10 pm! We decided to leave. I can't comment on the quality of the food; however, the service is poor. I would not recommend this place if you have a special occasion or a date.

This place was a really cool spot, the vibe of the restaurant was awesome! Our waitress was nice, the bartenders were knowledgeable, and the owner was also walking around tending to patrons—an extremely nice guy. They had a vast array of liquor to choose from. We were disappointed that we didn't get to try the regular menu due to it being a prixe fixed menu for Valentine's day, but the food was still excellent and we plan on going back on a regular night!

This restaurant has not figured it out yet. Not only did I have issues because I made a reservation before they decided to do a Valentine’s Day pre-fixe, the pre-fixe itself was a disaster. The sizes of the dishes were not comparable across each course. For example I had a whole piece of bread with beef carpaccio and my partner for the same course was served just one oyster. We were served a third course before the second course which was just the incorrect food and at the incorrect time. We were asked multiple times if drinks or food was ours when it was clearly for a different table. The restaurant is still new and I hope they figure it out because the food was pretty decent but the reason you do a pre fixe on a major holiday is so you don’t have these issues and clearly it did not help them in this case.

Starting with the caveat I ate here on Valentine's Day when they were serving a special, modified menu, I was deeply underwhelmed by the Statesman. At this price point, you'd expect much warmer service, better table dressing and general ambiance, along with a kitchen better prepared for the volume of customers we saw on this night. Service was slow and the food hardly filling. We went to P. Terry's after waiting around here for three hours, and I definitely think we got the better end of things at the burger joint. The appetizer--date stuffed with mozzarella and wrapped in bacon--was tasty and set high expectations for the rest of the meal, which were hardly met. The dismal three courses we went through were hardly anything remarkable. The Beef Carpaccio was probably my favorite dish among a set bad dishes for the first course; the second course brought tender, delightful scallops, but having waited thirty minutes for them I was more concerned about eating at all than really cared for the taste. The rigatoni was fine, and the duck was too fatty to be much fun. Luckily, there's always room for dessert and you won't go wrong with any of the options, even on the limited menu. Overall, I was cool on this menu and wish I could have come on an ordinary night (slight of planning). I'm certain with the ability to choose a greater variety and quantity of food, this place is probably pretty decent. Hardly the kind of place I think I'd actually want to take a Valentine out to, though, unless I was planning to break up with them. True to it's name, everything stayed diplomatic, but I probably won't be coming back for more anytime soon.

It’s new , even though we had a fixed menu it was great from beginning to end . Wine pairings were perfect for my wife . The regular menu looks to be very good can’t wait to try it ! We’ll be back no doubt !

Primarily, The menu and service was great. Tamara, our server, was always available, knew the business and was eager to recommend. 10/10. However, the back area was crowded with too many tables, which was unfortunately occupied by a gentleman who was happy to be the loudest person in the room, sharing both how he felt about his political and racial preferences, both in and our no of the restaurant. This alone, is not the restaurant’s fault, but upon paying the check (and making sure the server, that he’d been objectifying the whole meal, knew he had a black card), he then shook hands with someone who presented themselves as the owner/investor at the next table. Restaurants that allow this kind of behavior because of a large tab, should know that this is not only a problem for other patrons who otherwise would’ve enjoyed themselves, but for the comfort and safety of their staff.
