Casual, coastal restaurant in the North Loop. Reservations taken for dining room only, patio seating is available on a first come, first serve basis. Please check in with hosts upon arrival for patio seating.

Although named for the boats used to catch lobster, Smack Shack was launched as a food truck in 2010 serving lobster rolls from a land-locked downtown Minneapolis parking lot. Owner Josh Thoma had a great recipe and a belief that appetite for fresh lobster in the Twin Cities was as strong as any coastal city.

Smack Shack is committed to serving sustainable seafood and is a current partner in the Minnesota Zoo’s Fish Smart program. Sustainable seafood is wild caught or farm raised seafood that has established practices to ensure the long term growth and thriving populations of seafood with limited harm to the environment.

Four out of five of us had good meals. Unfortunately, my dad found a lot of egg shells in his crab Benedict therefore losing his appetite, our waitress was kind enough to take it off the bill.

Overall, a very good experience and I love this place. There was some slight issues at the end with the division of the checks, but we were a large group so it was probably just confusing for the server

Top notch seafood! Many other options as well. Loved the paella! A great place to celebrate or just have an incredible meal! We have eaten at Smack Shack at least a half dozen times and we keep going back! Perfect option before a Twins game.

We came for dinner before a concert at the FineLine and we both enjoyed out meals. Sat on the patio under heat lamps on a lovely cool evening, and had a Smack Shack Special and a Shrimp Po'Boy which were both amazing - as was the cole slaw and brewski's! We'll be back again!

Excellent service but ridiculously overpriced average at best sad soft soggy food it felt like I paid double what I would be comfortable with for the flavor and the portions were tiny. The only great thing was the oysters.

Had a lovely time, server was attentive and nice. But my fish fry was just mediocre. Borderline cold by the time it landed on the table. Everyone else enjoyed their food, hard to say if I’ll be returning soon. Overall I think it was a bit overpriced for what we got.

Really enjoyed our time. Service was quite slow. Took almost an hour to receive our appetizers. Staff was friendly and kind. It mostly was just the slowness of receiving our food that was a bummer.

Excellent flavors! Had the lobster mac- really west large pieces of lobster atop best Mac and cheese I’ve had. Also had the lamb - really delicious! Highly recommend!!

Our first time here and we loved it! Such a cool location. We were there during lunch and the food was great, yummy bloodys. Our server was nice and attentive but being our first time there we were asking questions and trying to get some suggestions but he was not interested, wanted to take our order and move along. The food was awesome, my husband loved the lobster. We will be back soon!

I’ve eaten here twice in the past month and the very best thing is the service. Wait staff is friendly, helpful and work together to get our food to us. The food is also excellent. The lobster guacamole is a little jewel! Also, we are old and hard of hearing and the hosts honored our request and put us in a rather quiet spot. (Not easy to find in today’s restaurant scene. )

Excellent server! Lobster rolls weren't as good as usual. Lobster meat was overcooked and dry, probably not enough melted butter.

Our waiter was very nice and patient with us and the music is great I loved George Michael and Robin S playing in the background. The food too was great; my favorite was the lobster roll- it kinda tastes like marshmallows and it’s really good with the toasted, buttered bread. Canjun fries were great, and the stuffed salmon with wild rice was good too but it wouldn’t hurt to pan fry the salmon so the skin gets crispy and marinate the salmon the night before so there’s more smoke and flavor on the meat. The salmon’s stuffing was amazing it was a perfect combo with the pomegranate. The lobster was good too, we got the 1.5lb dish and the tails were very good and super chewy so be careful eating the tail and chew throughly with small bites. The ambiance is nice, it’s dim and feels cozy.

Very friendly wait staff and always attentive! No long wait for your meals and food was satisfying and delicious.

Everything delicious! 1. Peel & eat shrimp, warm from the boil. Nicely spiced and delicious, even without the 2 yummy dipping sauces. 2. Awesome beer and cocktails 3. Fish(cod) &chips. Delicate, minimal batter on the freshest cod. Cajun fries. Like nowhere else! 4. Wedge salad. OK. It’s just a salad. But, wow! Big hunks of gorgeous bacon. Super fresh iceberg. Dressing is a bacon-bleu lucious mix. I do wish there were more tomatoes, though. Bring a table full and enjoy!

The food was amazing. The server could have been a little more fun and helpful. We asked for suggestions and she didn't really have any recommendations. Overall, we really enjoyed our dinner.

Excellent Connecticut style lobster roll. Waiter was good and ambiance nice. Miss the homemade potato chips they had years ago though. I would recommend Smack Shack to anyone who loves seafood even with the high prices.

We have been to Smack Shack several times in the past; their lobster roll is legendary, or at least it WAS. The portions used to be fit for Hercules but now you get maybe 1/2 the lobster…for $33! Fries are still stop on. Probably won’t be back for quite a while

I have been to this shack location several times. The food is pretty good and the environment is always lively and fun. My only standout comment is I dont really feel like the wait staff cares about you as a customer. The last two times visited is just seemed kinda blah. Wait staff that are energized, understanding, patient and attentive can turn an average meal into a 5 star experience. Something for management to consider.
