Casual, coastal restaurant in Bloomington. Reservations are taken for the dining room only, patio seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please check in with hosts upon arrival for patio seating.

Although named for the boats used to catch lobster, Smack Shack was launched as a food truck in 2010 serving lobster rolls from a land-locked downtown Minneapolis parking lot. Owner Josh Thoma had a great recipe and a belief that the appetite for fresh lobster in the Twin Cities was as strong as in any coastal city.

Smack Shack is committed to serving sustainable seafood and is a partner in the Minnesota Zoo’s Fish Smart program. Sustainable seafood is wild-caught or farm-raised seafood that has established practices to ensure the long-term growth and thriving populations of seafood with limited harm to the environment.

They prepared the lobster exactly as I had requested. It was the best meal I’ve had in a long time. But I must say their clam chowda leave a lot to be desired.

We were there on Morhers Day and expected it to be busy. Everyone was kind and doing their best. We had the full experience of appetizers with special drinks, entrees and dessert with coffee. Our grandson (6) was with us and was treated kindly too!

Good was good. We were just hoping for a more special experience for Mother’s Day. We should have researched if they were going to have better brunch items and specials to celebrate the day.

Came for mother's day, made reservations, overall everything was subpar, I suspect they were understaffed, because our waitress was hard to find, food arrived after a very long wait 45-60 minutes, and most hot things were warm at best, the one thing that really mattered and the reason we chose this place for mothers day was the hot peel and eat shrimp, which my wife loves, came cold, not warm, like sitting in the windows for 15 minutes cold. food was average at best, and for that price I expect a lot more of the food, fresh, hot and timely, they were not so busy there were many, many open tables. Wife left unhappy and unfed as she was disgusted by the time she got hot food everyone else ate their warm at best food. For the single biggest eating out day, this felt unprepared, and poorly executed. I doubt we'll go back. This trip we be remembered by my wife probably forever.

The restaurant is OK and the jazz is a great touch, but, in my opinion, the food is very overpriced.

Peel n eat shrimp, wings, fish n chips, paella were all excellent. Only slight misstep was the raw oysters, a couple of which were dried up and served without the liquor. Since they were tiny oysters to begin with, they were a bit unappetizing. Friday before Mother’s Day, it was busy and clearly understaffed with our waitress covering a large number of tables. Still, she was pleasant and did best she could. Consistently well made food! Music (New Orleans style jazz)was also tasteful and fantastic that night.

I had the alaskan king crab boil. It was awesome. The best ive ever had. For the price and what you got, it was outstanding.

Great amosphere and great band but fish was soggy in fish and chips. I hope they can find someone to advise tham on how to make the fish for fish and chips. If not, I don't thnk we would go again

Dinners are over priced for what you get. For Example $32 for a small piece of salmon and 3 carrots. Fries were cold on other meals. Won’t go back.

Original lobster roll had no seasoning whatsoever. It was completely bland. It was almost free of mayo. I wonder if something was forgotten. It was certainly not worth $33. We were there for the music which was good, but the service was extremely slow. I don’t think we’ll be coming back. I was not impressed.

Food was awful but it’s a nice big clean restaurant- the lobster was fishing smell and tasting and very rubbery. Not worth it.

We received much better service on a previous visit, this time we had to wait quite some time for refills, no one checked on food and we had to ask a busser for check and Togo boxes.

WANTED A LARGE ROLL AND WAS TOLD ONLY ONE SIZE. WILL NOT BE BACK UNLESS SOMEONE ELSE BUYS. WILL NOT RECOMMEND. LAST TIME I HAD THE BENIGETS , COLD AND SCANT POWDERED SUGAR.

A great Catholic Lenten fish fry location. Good food and good service. But they sure go out of their way to turn over their tables as many people are exiting to be seated. Music gets turned up so loud it becomes painful to stay. More of a loud noise than music really. Fortunately Lent is over so our ears get a full year to rest up before we endure that punishment. Jesus sure suffered so maybe this is our part?

I had the king crab boil and my wife had the stuffed trout. My wife didn’t love the trout. I tried it and it was pretty good. The stuffing was not fantastic but decent. The boil was fantastic for sure. Will definitely be back and the menu has a lot of fantastic sandwiches and such I want to try

Loved having live music. Such a great jazz session. Our food was delicious and enjoyed a tasty mocktail.

My first visit to the Bloomington location. Consistent with the North Loop location in relation to food quality and service. I will go back for sure!

Music was too loud. Could not carry on a conversation while having dinner. French frys were cold and hard. Coleslaw was dry. Fish was good and so was the peel and eat shrimp.

Drove 45mins one way for the lobster roll, and it was great! Lobster Mac n cheese was delicious too. Son is a picky eater, the condiments weren't correct on his burger but the staff quicky corrected it. Did this happen because the waitress didn't write our order down... perhaps. Again outstanding service and food. I'll be back again to try other items on the menu.

So disappointing! Considering the hub bub around this place and the product they sell. What a let down. I could’ve set a picnic table in the parking lot and served a better meal. I have no fear actually challenging them to that duel. This is where super successful awesome startups go when they lose their mojo. Great ideas running out of “energy”. Must be Covid- I’m sure it’s Covid! Gotta be Covid……. What a disappointment. Plus, I live down the street.

We had a nice server. We were seated right next to where a band would be playing and we weren’t asked if that was ok. Once we realized the band would be starting, we asked to be moved. The tables are close and it was noisy. For a side the only choice was the French fries without paying more. There should be options.
