Casual, coastal restaurant in Bloomington. Reservations are taken for the dining room only, patio seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please check in with hosts upon arrival for patio seating.

Although named for the boats used to catch lobster, Smack Shack was launched as a food truck in 2010 serving lobster rolls from a land-locked downtown Minneapolis parking lot. Owner Josh Thoma had a great recipe and a belief that the appetite for fresh lobster in the Twin Cities was as strong as in any coastal city.

Smack Shack is committed to serving sustainable seafood and is a partner in the Minnesota Zoo’s Fish Smart program. Sustainable seafood is wild-caught or farm-raised seafood that has established practices to ensure the long-term growth and thriving populations of seafood with limited harm to the environment.

Smack Shack never fails to impress. We had company in town and knew that this was the place to take them. From lobster rolls to lobster bisque! And fried green tomatoes to start the meal to sharing beignets for a bite of something sweet for dessert! Our company loved every bite.

We had the Sesame Ahi Tuna and Lorraine's Lump Crab Cakes. Both were good. Server was a little slow. At times we didn't see her for almost 15 minutes when we were sitting with empty drinks. We eventually flagged down someone else that just happened to be walking by. Be aware of the "Health Service Fee" (or whatever they called it) on the bill. It was almost another 5% of the total bill.

Could have made better entree choices. The fish and chips was not the best. Too much dough, not enough fish. Corn bread is always tops!

They prepared the lobster exactly as I had requested. It was the best meal I’ve had in a long time. But I must say their clam chowda leave a lot to be desired.

We were there on Morhers Day and expected it to be busy. Everyone was kind and doing their best. We had the full experience of appetizers with special drinks, entrees and dessert with coffee. Our grandson (6) was with us and was treated kindly too!
