A charming village pub nestled in the heart of West Hanningfield on the unspoiled greenbelt of the Essex city, Chelmsford. This soul-soothing, local pub offers a fresh, seasonal menu coupled with local craft beverages, all of which can be enjoyed in our vintage, east-coast setting. Our alfresco lawn is the perfect oasis for any passing visitor or returning local. Take in the panoramic views of the rolling hills or stay warm by our log burner snuggled inside.     What a lovely, family-friendly pub! The food was elite as was our company. The server, Jayne was incredible and tended to our every need. Thoroughly recommend it here for children, home made food and lovely service. We will return.

    It was our first time here, and was very happy we chose to come here l. Food was gorgeous, the place was lovely and so were the staff.

    Enjoyed a lovely birthday meal here with tasty Sunday lunch options. Staff were knkowledgable and very friendly. Managed to cater for two of our party who were vegan, and they were keen to point out gluten free options they had available should there be any coeliac diners. Can't wait to return again soon!

    We have eaten here a few times since it has been under new management and we were really impressed. So much so that we suggested to friends that it would be a good place to meet up, but this time was a let down. The food was average and the service was below average. The food took quite a long to come and the waitress did offer us the desert menu. We were in conversation and did not notice until it was too late to order. We asked for coffees but were also declined as she had turned off the machine. It was not particularly late and there were still people in the restaurant. Our friends were not impressed and said that they wouldn't come back and I don't think that we would again either. A real pity as it was so nice previously.

    We enjoyed our lunch at The Ship. Good quality ‘pub grub’ covering all the traditional bases at reasonable prices. Having smaller (and cheaper) lunch sized portions of some dishes was a good idea. We enjoyed fish & chips, and venison pie with mash and veg. Nice to have gravy on the side. Good service too.

    Excellent lunch yesterday, recommend the mushroom and Stilton starter. Service from Sunny was superb. Will be back again soon

    Had a very enjoyable lunch with friends for my birthday. Good choice of food and reasonably priced. Everywhere was clean and tidy, plus staff were attentive.

    Our first visit to The Ship for lunch with friends. Did not disappoint and we’d definitely book again. Ambience lovely, fresh yet traditional, welcoming and comfortable. Lots of choice for a Monday lunchtime. Staff friendly and very accommodating. Would recommend to family and friends.
