The Plot team is led by Jessica and Davin Waite, who have been at the forefront of San Diego's culinary scene for over a decade. The duo has earned a loyal following for their inventive and sustainable approach to seafood and plant-based dishes, gaining the attention of critics and culinary innovators far and wide as well as accolades including being named San Diego Magazine’s “Best New Restaurant of the Year” in 2020, VegNews’ “San Diego’s Best Vegan Restaurants” in 2022, and Tasting Table’s “20 Best Restaurants in San Diego” in 2023.

The Plot in Costa Mesa is located in The Camp, a sustainably focused center that highlights unique local businesses. Parking can be a bit tough at The Camp, depending on the time of your visit. In addition to parking in the main lot, Randolph Ave. is another option. Customers can walk through Camp Out into The Camp. Also, Valet service is available in the main lot. The price is $8. Valet is available Thursday through Sunday.

This six course dinner features The Plot culinary leaders Davin Waite, Lydia Ornelas, Travis Roe and Bryan Balzer. The Plantscape series creates the opportunity for these adventurous chefs to present a playful, innovative and exciting array of courses featuring ingredients sourced locally and regeneratively (many from our own garden). They will highlight techniques such as total utilization and dry aging, while elevating the comforting yet boundary pushing creations are team is known for. Absolutely loved the food and vibes here! Flavorful vegan meal in a small eclectic mall took us by surprise! Excellent server and service. Will definitely return!

Vegan food was very interesting and delicious. I hope the restaurant will be here for a long time. We loved it! Hard to find such sophisticated dishes. The wait staff was exceptional.

Food was delicious and our waiter was wonderful. It was a beautiful experience and meal while enjoying the beautiful weather on the great patio.

Incredible flavors and textures from start to finish. Superb use of cooking techniques, balanced flavor profiles, and expert seasoning. You won’t miss the animal products.

Based on descriptions (and prices) shown online we knew this would be "elevated" plant-based cuisine, and it certainly was. We had no idea what any dish would look like, nor how it would taste. We were very pleased with the results and look forward to returning. However, we would not get the same entrees again. The "Meatless Loaf" was delicious but there was too much of it: halfway through and I wanted something else. Luckily I could switch over to the garlic-yam "mash" which made an excellent accompaniment. The "Carrotfish & Chips" was an interesting take: beer-battered carrots instead of real fish. They tasted delicious but the carrots were too hard (under-cooked?). The accompanying chips were a nice assortment of potato types and the beet "ketchup" was a surprise twist. We had 2 special appetizers too, which we liked a lot: a soft grilled carrot with a spread of vegan "bone-marrow" that could be spread on focaccia, and grilled broccolini in an excellent sauce with tomatoes. For dessert we had the banana creme brulée, which was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. We would definitely have that again! This is the second outpost of The Plot (the 1st is in Oceanside) and they took over the old Native Foods spot in that cool shopping place called "The Camp" on Bristol in Costa Mesa, California. The booths have been replaced with tables (uncomfortable metal-wire chairs!) and the outdoors is nice at night with a fire pit and little blankets provided. Many other dishes look good on their menu for both lunch and dinner, so we will definitely return to try more. And there's always the banana creme brulée!

We had the best experience and will definitely return. The atmosphere was very comfortable and the service was outstanding. The waitstaff was very attentive and helpful with the menu. The food was terrific. Very unique vegetarian fare.

Loved it here SO much! Excellent food. So happy there is a top-notch vegan restaurant here. The menu was so good. We could hardly decide what to get. The staff was amazing. We loved everybody and were so stuffed. I recommend for vegans and non-vegans. My friend was not a vegan but sad after eating her she can easily be vegan.

Fabulous vegan restaurant - so happy to have found it. We went on a Sunday for brunch and came back a few days later for dinner. We loved the plot primavera and patty melt and fries from the brunch menu and the pasta special and kale salad from the dinner menu. The chocolate mousse is delicious. Service is excellent.

Came here for the first time to celebrate our mom's birthday dinner. We tried to make a reservation for 8 and they didn't really have an opening online. We tried to call them Multiple time when they opened but after an hour was able to get hold of them and they were able to accommodate us in the evening. Our mom is a vegan so it's nice to have a place that is fully vegan. Service is great since we walked in. I can't recall the names of our host and server but they were extremely friendly and the host, he was the nicest person. Even though he's a host he helped us a lot with food running, pre bussing the table, refilling our water, and even setting us up for desserts. We did share everything and did family style. We ordered the grilled cabbage, crab cake, truffle cheese fries, the chronic, biscuits and gravy, chopped kale cesar salad, polenta and chorizo, yuzu yam, carrotfish and chip, and the shepard pie. Wish i took photos of them but only was able to take a photo of the amuse bouche! Everything came out quickly. I do recommend the carrotfish and chip, biscuits and gravy and the cesar salad. Yuzu yam was good just on the heavier side. We tried the banana creme brulee but wasn't as great as it sounded. We would definitely come back again
